  1. It's a ported enclosure ... but specs say 98dB's for these SR4718A's, so "thought" I could power it with say 50wpc ... guess that's not going to work
  2. Jeez ... even smaller than I thought Looking forward to trying one when it arrives from "Zhina." Tried my 30wpc Marantz 1060 on the JBL's I got yesterday (JBL SR4718A; single 18", 4 ohms, 98dB, 30-3300Hz). Could not get any volume out of them. Thinking I really have to go up in power as these are just about subwoofers?? Claude ... the tiny Nobsounds are 100x2Watts ... assume that's at 8 ohms so the would probably give me at least 150W at 4 ohms/
  3. That is a GREAT price for a 904! Go get it! (I assume it comes with the K-510 horn - check what type of driver it has - and a passive crossover ... 900/920Hz). I have seen single 904's on FleaBay ... but be prepared to spend close to $1000 plus shipping Cannot comment on its use as a center. But, replaced my Cornwall I's with KPT-904's and the difference is night and day. Tighter base, much much better mids and highs due to the 510 horn. I will never go back to using my CW's as fronts Cheers, Emile
  4. Haha ... 900 wpc into 8 ohms ... just do NOT like the connectors up front Plus can easily get over 1000 wpc with bridged Crown amps OK; seriously ... NO; not really concerned with Watts speaker rating ... all my stuff has always been "underpowered." Reason for the above post was that I was surprised (disappointed?) that I did NOT get any volume out of these 18" JBL (4 ohm, 98dB, 30-3300Hz) woofers with my Marantz 1060 (guessing 45 wpc at 4 ohms). Never had woofers this big and was just wondering if they indeed needed some serious power. OK, will be doing some more experimenting Thanks, Emile
  5. OK; got the JBL 18" bass bins (SR4718A, 600W) in the house. Wife is not impressed by the looks Hooked them up to my pre-amp (JVC P3030) then via miniDSP 2x4 (35-920Hz) and into a Marantz 1060 (30wpc, but guess about 45wpc on 4 ohms). With the Marantz 1060 at close to full volume I do NOT get much sound ... rough guess is 85-90dB's (Additional complication is that I cannot turn my pre-amp to full power - only about 1/3rd - as it makes the miniDSP clip.) Any suggestions? Thanks, Emile
  6. Awesome suggestions ... Thanks Add-on ... Have a Crown K1 ... used RCA's and had some noise ... switched to "pseudo" balanced; RCA from pre-amp to XLR's into the Crown and the noise was gone Can't explain it, but it helped
  7. OK @ClaudeJ1 ... you made me spend money again Haha ... only $42 Got the 100Wx2 KnobSound on order WITH the transformer (easier than buying them separate). Anyone else interested, here is the link https://www.ebay.com/itm/Nobsound-Mini-Digital-Power-Amplifier-HiFi-Stereo-Amp-100W-2-with-Power-Supply/282997128167?hash=item41e3f17be7:g:UWwAAOSwFSRbkX3U
  8. Haha ... yes; have the (less powerful) K1 ... and have had it up to "stupid" levels

    KPT-310 Crossovers

Thanks! But now I am confused ... this is a 2nd order 12dB crossover ... when I checked my KPT-904's it states that it has a 24dB xover??? Also, for us "non-electronics" guys ... can you elaborate on the 200 ohm protector ... no clue where it goes Many thanks, Emile
  10. Claude, Interesting Used to have 52wpc (Marantz 2252B) on my 904's (OK; not jubes ) and it sounded very, very good. Switched to a Crown K1 (350wpc??) and believe the bass is indeed tighter (due to the large damping factor ??). Highs seem better also. Getting some JBL 18" bass bins tomorrow for use with my K-510's. Thanks to your comments, I'll hold off buying another Crown ... going to experiment with my 30wpc Marantz 1060 first (OK; prob 45wpc at 4 ohms). Cheers, Emile

    KPT-310 Crossovers

Anyone tried any ART CX310 adjustable crossovers? https://www.parts-express.com/art-cx310-2-way-3-way-crossover--245-880?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=pla&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIh_fgn8_64AIVjYnICh1uggDNEAQYAyABEgI5SPD_BwE Add-on ... have a miniDSP 2x4, but it's not great ... have to turn my preamp to half volume to avoid clipping Looking at Xilica's but don't want to spend $1000 just to "try it."

    KPT-310 Crossovers

Darn ... late again Anyone wants to sell a pair? (Could use it for K-510's on a JBL bass bin.)
  13. Haha ... happens in newer homes also I just use self-adhesive felt pads (for my wood floors) ... cut them to size if you have risers ... double/triple them to "balance."
  14. Thanks! Haha ... if I'm lucky you just saved me $500 ... check is in the mail Per my SPL calculator ( http://myhometheater.homestead.com/splcalculator.html ) I should be able to get 118dB's form these (corner) JBL's Cheers, Emile
  15. OK; know the general consensus is to get an amp rated at 2x the "continuous pink noise" level rating of the speakers. So, "know" an amp will possibly "clip" if played towards max volumes and it can hurt the speakers as they may "sit" on the clipped wave. But; really do not fully understand it ... can I just avoid clipping by keeping the volume at reasonable levels??? Now for my "personal" history. Have always had under-powered amps Ran my KPT-904's (600W ???) with a Marantz 2252B (52wpc) and they were LOUD and excellent sounding ... never heard any clipping even when almost turned to max volume. (OK; switched to a Crown K1 with about 400wpc and the bass is "tighter.") Next I'm getting a pair of JBL bass bins (model SR4718A; 600W, 4ohms). Hoping to match these with my extra set of K-510/K-691 horns (on a separate amp, using DSP) ... tried to match the horns with Forte's, but they completely overpower them Yes; if the sound is "good," I'll buy a "bigger" amp (looking at a Crown XLS 2502; 775W at 4 ohms) ... but want to try them first with my spare Marantz 1060 (30wpc; prob about 45wpc at 4 ohms). Could I "safely" try this at say 1/3rd or 2/3rds power?? Do not want to blow the woofers as replacements are $300-500 each Many thanks! Cheers, Emile
  16. Here is an interesting SPL calculator http://myhometheater.homestead.com/splcalculator.html For example, my 98dB (corner) bass bins give me 116dB's with my Marantz 1060 (30wpc at 8ohms; prob more at 4ohms) and 131dB's with a Crown XLS 2502 (looking at it ; 775wpc at 4ohms). Haha ... just what I need; major hearing damage after 30 seconds Cheers, Emile Add-on ... @tube fanatic's 1 wpc it yields 102dB's ... 8 hours to get hearing damage
  17. Awesome price ... no clue why someone has not grabbed these ... maybe post some extra pics on the slate tops ... sounds interesting, but cannot see it in the original pics. GLWS
  18. @tigerwoodKhorns ... congrats! Heard some of those about a year ago and thought they were awesome. But the seller wanted $5K Haha ... picking up some JBL 18" bass bins next week. Cheers, Emile
  19. Tried and tried ... OK; not "anemic," but it just did not live up to my expectations. Sold it about 3 months ago to a forum member.

    Single KPT-335-B/M

Awesome price $600. Just too far away from me
  21. Thought we all did this ... and too often Have tried the "new" Dynaco ST-70 on my Forte I's ... initially liked it (probably because it took me a week to build it), but quickly went back to my vintage Marantz 1060 (30+ wpc). The Dynaco was just anemic compared to the SS amp . OK; one more ... used to have a Marantz 2252B (52wpc) on my KPT-904's. Always sounded very refined and the neighbors enjoyed the sound also Switched to a Crown K1 amp (350wpc?) and there is indeed a small difference. Highs are crispier and bass is tighter (faster?). Think it may have something to do with the damping factor on that amp ... not sure a tube amp would ever reach those levels. Getting some 18" JBL bass bins next week. Will try those with K-510/K-691 horns AND use different amps ... we'll see Cheers, Emile
