  1. The four other girls moved into my apartment and had only been here for about three days before they had already done damage to my Klipsch. Dang Justin sounds like you got another hobby instead of audio. LOL. Maybe you got lucky and it is only a fuse on the hk430, just get another fuse and try it. How bad are the scratches on the speakers? Maybe Andy can give you some information on how to fix the scratches. Good luck and hopefully everything is fixable.
  2. I might take it Mark, can it be fixed what is broken on it, more details.IS the dust cover all broken up, is tonearm intact?
  3. All I can say is hats off to you Sheltie, thank God for the good timing of you being at the right place at the right time.
  4. Mandi adoption will be $70 for this walnut cabinet that includes shipping to your door by UPS, I sell them a little cheeper here to forum members than on ebay. The bigger cabinet I make that fits the 272 model I sell for $80. Alan, If that case needs a home I have been known to take things in for adoption Man that looks good when are you going to have my webmaster add a page to my site for those fine cabinets ! I'm sure he would do it for about $100 ! The web space is free from me I have plenty of space I'm paying for anyway. Craig Craig might have to take you up on your offer on your webpage that would be a good way for me to get some more buisness. Can you keep track somehow of how many hits a week you get on your websight? What kind of magical trick do you people do to bring up a picture that goes straight to the thread instead of having that attachment like mine does and so many other people? I would like to learn how this is done if it isnt to complicated.
  5. Here is a picture of a nice walnut cabinet that needs a good home. This will fit your 299b. I also have some nice oak ones also. If you want a factory cabinet about the only place to find one would be ebay they come up for bid every once in a while but most of them need refinishing, a factory cabinet in great shape will set you back right at 100 bucks thow.
  6. Kenratboy you are on the right track about hearing protection and should be as well as everyone else. I wear my foam ear plugs 8 hours a day at work while driving a 70 ton rock haul truck and when I am grading roads with a road grader. After 24 years of this even with ear plugs I have some hearing loss, we have too take a yearly hearing test at work every year. I could just imagine what my hearing would be like now if I hadnt worn ear protection at all.Anytime your ears ring after being around noise they are being stressed and are telling you something.Hearing cant be fixed. After years of noise exposure and bad permanate damadge has happend a persons ears will always ring 24 hours a day 365 days a year. I know one die hard out at work that never wore hear plugs because he said he didnt need them, well he cant here a dang thing and he says the ringing in his ears drive him nuts, he says going to bed at night and trying to sleep is even a problem with the ringing in his ears. So when in doubt and working around noise put those ear plugs in.
  7. Glad you like the walnut cabinet Johnnydb. I here you had some help unpacking the cabinet from non only than Deang, wow what good timing that he would be there when it showed up. Packing my cabinets up the way I am doing them now takes me about 35 to 40 minutes, but it is worth the effort if it makes it in perfect shape, wife thinks I am nuts going threw all that packing work but what the heck beats making up another cabinet.Your 272 really looks good I cant believe how big those amps are they dwarf my Scott 299a. Thanks for the kind words on the cabinet, it sure makes my day.
  8. Wow, very nice, who ever gets this one will be one lucky person. Great restoration job, looks wonderfull.
  9. Tom 200 bucks is way too steep, you should be able to pick up a nice 1800, 1700 or 2000 with a good used cartridge for about 100 bucks. They are all over ebay.some of the more expensive modles will bring around 300 bucks.
  10. I have two B&O turntables a 1800 and a 2000. Owned the 1800 model for about 20 years, they are not bad turntables and sure they are not top of the line either, like always you usually get what you pay for. One good thing about the B&O turntable is that they are suspended real good, it takes a lot to get them to skip, I havent ran across a better suspended turntable yet. If you have weak floors and are woried about suspension problems this is the turntable that will past the test. The bad thing about these turntables is that only the B&O factory cartridges will fit them as far as I know, and as of now I hear they do not make them anymore and they are bringing some perty good bucks for new ones on ebay up to a 100 bucks for a mmc4 and well over 200 for a mmc3 and mmc2. They mmc5 has been going for around 60 bucks latly and it sounds perty good for the money.
  11. 80 Z28 BLACK AND SILVER, 60,000 original miles, 100% original. 56 chevy 2 door hardtop, had it 25 years and it still aint restored, lack of time and funds, most likly will be my retirement project 20 years from now. 97 chevy ex cab 4 wheel drive, gas hog but a sharp looking truck. 95 voyager van to haul my kids around, and keep the old lady happy.LOL. I dont know what to spend my hard earned money on more cars or more stereo equipment.
  12. Pull the 12ax7 out and look between the pins of the tube should be an imprint of a diamond every telefuken tube has that as for as I know. Most of the fisher brand 12ax7 tubes that were made in western germany were telefuken tubes and have the diamond imprint on them between the tube pins.
  13. Thanks Craig, I seen a Scott 380 receiver go for over 400 bucks the other day it was a very nice one but a little over my budget. I see that most of the scott receivers use the 7591 output tubes, those cost a few more bucks than the 7189 el84 tubes that most of the scott intergrated use but I would really like too hear what these output tubes sound like.I love the blue lighting of the Scott receives too. What about the tuner section on these Scott recievers can you work on them Craig I heard they can be a real problem that might take special test equipment or am I wrong on this?
  14. Everyone likes the Scott intergrated amps including me but how about thier receivers, which Scott modle is the best? Do they sound as good as the intergrated amps? I really like the looks of the Scott 340b and the 345 which one of these is the best one? I just like old receivers I have a Sansui G-7700 and a SANSUI 8080 and wouldnt mind adding a nice Scott receiver too my collection too but I have no idea which one too pick.THANKS ALL.
  15. Greg, actually the shure CDP has a small knob that rotates like a small volume control knob. The remote controll turnes this volume knob, or you can use your hands. IF the volume knob on the shure is turned all the way down you will get no sound at all. So how I usually run the scott 299a is I put it at about halfway up on the volume controll at about 5 on it and then I just set back and turn the shure CDP up to how loud I want the music, simple as hell and sounds great. The shure CDP also has fixed output on the back of the unit and I cant tell any difference between the two so why not take advantage of the remote volume controll. Its basically like haveing a scott 299a with a remote controll, but of corse this only works with the CDP if I listen to alblums I am up and down from my seating position, dang the bad luck.
  16. I have a Shure ultra d-6000 CDP made in the late 80s and I bought it mostly for the variable output, works great with my sansui G-7700 AND THE Scott 299a, I wouldnt be with out it. In fact I wonder if many of the newer CDP have this feature, its just so handy to be able to sit there and turn the volume up and down.
  17. Playtheblues, you are on the right track, take your time before making many changes right away to your k-horns. First getting your false corners built and the k-horns sealed to them is the most important thing you can do, you will be floored by the difference it will make. You will have way better bass and it also made a real nice difference to the midrange, it sure did on my 84 k-horns with the AK-2 crossovers.
  18. Man those are some great looking MK111s. George do you know what preamp you are going to get to go with the mk111s?
  19. Dang George you just got this scott 299c, are you getting something else? I bet a set of mono blocks.
  20. Just1n20, I have a scott 299a that comes with the 7189 tubes too. I run the Russian military 6n14n-EB tubes they are a good replacement for the 7189 tubes and are cheep too. Craig (Nosvalves) will probable have some on hand and he matches them up too witch is a plus.
  21. For some reason the first picture disapeared here it is again.
  22. I restored this turntable about 9 months ago and never posted any pictures of it so here is a couple of pictures if I can get them on here.I thought it turned out perty nice, sounds alright too, wish I could find a beter cover for it, the one that came with it just isnt to good.I dont really use it much but it sure is a nice conversation piece and a turntable was in great shape for its age and just needed a restoration to make it look good.
  23. Is the pins on the old tubes poisinous or something? George its just a good idea to clean them up so they make a good conection in the tube socket. Take some 400 grit sandpaper and lightly sand the pins till they are shinny, then wipe them off with a clean rag. If you put in a tube that doesnt make a good conection bad things can happen to the tube itself or worse the amp. I had a output tube when I started up my scott 299a once start glowing a bright orange, I hurried up and shut down my amp and called Craig it was nothing but a dirty tube socket making a bad connection, if I would have left the amp on the tube would have went and most likly something in the amp too. From that point on I make sure all my tube pins are cleaned at least once a year and use CAIG DEOXIT cleaner ON THE TUBE SOCKETS. It is just some basic tube amp maintanence that needs to be done once in a while, it could save you some big bucks in the future. Just my 2 cents worth George.
  24. Georg, just don't stick your little grubbies in the pins after you pull the NOSs out, else you will be dieing! When you stick the new ones in, power it up, let them sit an hour or so before you rebias them, and then let them sit and cook while you go off to work. A little burn in time will ease the pain of your ears - it takes a double digit hours to get new tubes settled in and comfortable. Arfz28 runs them as well, but he doesn't stray too far away from R&R. It'll be nice to hear from a classical perspective Sheltie, I have a 299a wich comes with the 7189 output tubes from the factory, I am runing the russian military 6n14n-EB in there place because nos 7189 are very expensive. The 7591 tubes you mentioned above are for the 299c and 299d I cant run those in my 299a and cant give any opinion on them. GEORGE let us know what you think of the NOS 7591 tubes when you get them. Also george clean the pins on the tubes before you stick them in. Also do a bias right away it will be off with new output tubes, then check the bias in about 3 hours again. George I am not familiar with the 299c, do you have to bias this amp manually or is it a self bias amp? Craig has test points that he adds to his 299a and 299b models but I am not for sure what he does to the 299c modle maybe you dont have to bias at all I really dont know for sure. CRAIG do you have to manually bias a scott 299c or what, I would like to know myself?
