  1. It could've been worse. Nonetheless, it wasn't the sniping that was the problem, but the confusion over the currency. Your willingness to share the mistake is admirable and might help others to avoid repeating your mistake. I make plenty of mistakes, with this warning, I might not make this one too. One of the nice things about sniping is that you make your decision to submit the most that you are willing to pay, without the pressure of the auction. It also protects you from watching the bidding go beyond your maximum bid and then being tempted to increase your maximum. It's probably more likely that anyone could overlook the currency issue when manually placing a last second bid. At least with sniping, you should have plenty of time to recognize that the auction's currency is in pounds, Euros, etc., rather than US$.
  2. That's about the right sized venue. The Magico Ultimates might overpower the double-wide.
  3. Someone, possibly Richard Pryor, once said, cocaine is God's way of telling you that you have too much disposable income." Well certain aspects of the audio addiction, I mean hobby, also fit that description, e.g., MAGICO Ultimate speakers (http://www.magico.net/products.html) reviewed in the attached pdf.
  4. Andy aka Klipschguy is a credit to the forum and he must also be a great poker player. When I started a thread titled, Single Driver Rear Horn Experiments, at http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/1/548408/ShowPost.aspx#548408, Andy was kind enough to contribute a pair of Radio Shack 40-1197/FE 103s to the project. He paid about $8.00 to ship them to me and wouldnt accept payment or reimbursement for the postage.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> After several months of enjoying the 40-1197s I decided to at least cover the shipping via a PayPal payment. Well, that prompted an email from Andy in which he saw my PayPal payment and raised me 6 drivers. Before I fold, I want to publicly thank him. I was amazed to return from a business trip to Vegas to find two more 40-1197s, a pair of RS 5.25 full range drivers with wizzer cones and two Piezo horn tweeters waiting for me. Again Andy rebuffed my efforts to have these gifts shipped at my expense. Andy represents the best of this Forum and the hobby. Rather than personal compensation, he was pleased to help a fellow member and pleased to know that I have and will help fellow members. When time permits, Ill make new motorboards to accommodate the 5.25 drivers, and then Ill post the results.
  5. Craig, MS is manifested in many forms, many of which are very manageable. My sister-in-law was diagnosed with MS many years ago and you would never know it. May your sons experience be similar. Best thoughts and wishes for your father also.
  6. There's nothing wrong with 2 seconds or 4 seconds. The amount, not the timing, trumped your bid. If the high bidder sniped in at 4 seconds and you sniped in at 2 seconds, you would still have lost. The point is to place, whether by sniping or the old fashioned way, your bid within the final few seconds so that no one has time to respond to your bid with a higher bid. NOBODY is fast enough to see a bid placed with 4 seconds left and then place a new higher bid. All bids within the last 5 seconds are effectively received simultaneoulsy, i.e., the high bid wins, the order is irrelevant.
  7. IMHO the absolute BEST is: http://www.audioxpress.com/bksprods/kits/km-9.htm Follw the instructions and records that looked beyond hope are restored. They tend to stay clean if the anti-static component is used.
  8. Ron- It seems unlikely that, whether at 4 seconds or 2 seconds, sniping cost you an item. Under that scenario, whoever bid the most would win. Last second sniping prevents someone from reacting to your sniped bid with a higher bid,it doesn't prevent a lower sniped bid from being trumped by a higher bid. It's extremely unlikley (read ipossible) that someone was able to enter a new higher bid after your sniped bid with four seconds remaining. I've been pleased with www.ezsniper.com and have had no problems with spyware, etc.
  9. The bass bin appears to be made of chip-board. If so, the integrity of the bass bin is suspect. And yes, it's UGLY.
  10. TRiv said, . . . don't think of it as snipping, rather the max I am willing to pay, period.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Exactly, eBay auctions are really silent auctions that end when everyone submits what he/she is willing to pay. Bidding early merely drives up the eventual price and makes it easier on your competition. Everyone has the same opportunity to bid at the end, whether sniping or not. Only a dolt who naively sits on an early and low bid is surprised when the price shoots up in the closing seconds. TRiv asked, What type of car is your avatar, I keep thinking a Morgan 7? Its a Rotus 8 (Buick 3.5 liter aluminum V-8), a Lotus 7 clone on steroids. You are probably thinking of a Morgan Plus8, which has the Rover version of the same engine. Meagain wrote, There is ZERO value or gain from bidding early in an auction. Absolutely true, whether a real auction that ends when the bidding stalls or a silent auction that ends at a specified time. Meagains excellent advice means even more coming from an eBay seller. The only parties who benefit from bids early and often are the sellers and the auctioneers.

  12. EDIT: 02-20 @ 8:30 AM EST Assuming everything works, if you could get them for your max bid or less, that would be fine. DO NOT BID until the final seconds. I recommend using a sniping service. Of course, you realize that you've alerted the competition to their availability by posting the eBay link in this forum. If you need temporary storage in the Columbus area, I might be able to prevail upon a friend to help out. Did you check out his other auctions? Electro Voice EV Huge Corner Speaker No Res!
  13. Congrats! He kept the wrong ones. I've had both; CWs are better than LSs for home use. You'll love them.
  14. Perhaps the seller deliberately misspelled Wharfedale (see http://www.wharfedale.co.uk/home.php) because they arent real Wharfedale speakers. Its more likely that theyre not genuine Wharfedale speakers and the guy just doesnt know how to spell.
  15. Three and they all sounded like sh!t. They also had scratched under the chassis "help me" in Chinese Craig That's funny!
  16. Mick- Thanks for the information. I'll look into it further.
  17. Mick, I meant to include the link to jazzandblues.org, thanks for correcting the oversight. Now, I must confess ignorance regarding the rest of your post. What are the features/advantages of using D-Link, Roku or something similar? Considering that the streams are essentially MP3 quality digital audio, I was just planning to run the audio out from my PC to the "Spare" input of my pre-amp. As previously stated, I listen on line on my computer, rather than through the 2-channel system. If and when I feel the need to listen to streamed music through the 2-channel system, why can't I just patch the PC audio (Realplayer, Windows Media Player, etc.) straight into the pre-amp?
  18. Gil, Check out http://wrvo.fm/ from Oswego, NY. They play old radio shows,Gunsmoke, Lone Ranger, Sgt. Preston, Fibber McGee, Burns & Allen, etc., essentially around the clock.
