  1. Not all routers have media servers built in and some with servers won't have card slots. Populating the server is easy enough you just dump everything into a directory usually called music. A tablet running an app controls playback and volume. The app will usually support album artwork custom playlists and a few other features.
  2. The router I use is 200 the streamer was 175 with shipping from Germany. You probably already have a phone or tablet so under 400.
  3. The main point of my post was to show that streaming can be accomplished with only two pieces of hardware, an inexpensive router and an inexpensive small streamer that plugs directly into an amp without any cables. Here is pic of the tiny streamer, it has male RCA connectors built in. As far as I know it is the only streamer of it's kind.
  4. Which terms would you like me to clarify?
  5. I ripped most of my CD collection to flac files and I have a 200GB card that has 537 albums on it with 21 GB to spare. It was 26usd, a very economical solution. As for the Micro-Steamer I am very satisfied with it. I got it because both you and Hans Beekhuyzen recommended it, not easily found in the USA though, I had to order it from Amazon.de in Germany. It works flawlessly and sound very nice. It pairs very well with my Cambridge AudioAXA25 amp and my 43 year old Heresys. This is my setup 3 budget system and it rivals my two other setups.
  6. Condition used-good, minor heat damage? Look at the water stains. You could never make those right again. 2000 firm? I'm sure he claimed a total loss on the insurance claim too.
  7. I like simplicity, "Keep it Simple Stupid" is my motto so in that vein I decided to create a wireless streaming solution using the least amount of "moving parts", no PC, no cables, no interconnects at all. My first goal was to eliminate the computer, to that end the heart of my solution is a good wireless router( Synology RT2600ac) with media server capability and with internal storage in the form of a micro-sd card slot. Computer gone. Mission accomplished. Next I would need a good wireless streaming device with a decent DAC implementation so I opted for the WTX-Micro Stream this allowed me to eliminate interconnect cables as it plugs directly into the amplifier. This streamer is fully UPnP/DNLA capable allowing me to stream both my local files from the router as well as subscription services using a single app on a tablet or phone. So there you have it, Router/SD card--> Steamer--> Amp. Not a single wired connection anywhere in the chain and all controlled remotely by a tablet. If there is a simpler way than this please tell me about it.
  8. I went even simpler. 16ga lamp cord for the output and nothing at all for the input. I'm cheap and I'm lazy. 😁 BTW the OP's cables are gorgeous, nice work there.
  9. From a website mentioned in that thread: EIDOLON, from the Platonic conception of idealized forms; the embodiment of perfection that exists beyond our plane of perception. How's that for some rarified BS?
  10. For what it's worth, I purchased a pair of Heresy III special edition matte black with consecutive serial numbers way back in early March of this year from an ebay seller for 1800 dollars. So there have been good deals available for some time now. I'm surprised they're not all gone by now.
  11. I missed this thread when it was new. Glad someone resurrected it. I listen every so often to 320k stations exclusively and they all sound pretty damn good. Here's my station list
  12. I’m using a 10 dollar CanaKit wall-wart. It seems more than adequate with no noise at all. No plans to upgrade.
  13. I've used colored plastic bags and scotch tape on the inside of the faceplate with great success too.
  14. Well I replaced my Musical Paradise MP-D1 tube dac with a Schiit Modius and my Chromecast Audio with a Hifiberry Digi+ Pro hat on an Pi 4. A big improvement on both counts. Less noise, more dynamics, clarity and convenience. The old dac was warm sounding to a fault, the Modius still has the warm characteristics that I like in a dac without blurring the musical details and the background is dead quiet. Running Volumio on the Pi is also a lot more convenient than having two separate apps for Tidal and local files as with the Chromecast. It all cost less than the old MP-D1 did.Winners all around and my Fortes are happier for it.
  15. I just ordered the Modius. Going to try it my system 1 replacing the Musical Paradise tube dac which sounds very good but has a few issues. Based on my wonderful experience with the Modi 3 I have high expectations for the Modius. It should arrive next week. I shall report back.
  16. These things are amazing for the money. Dead quite at idle, I leave the volume at 100% and control the volume with Volumio( streaming app on a raspberry Pi) and the background is pretty close to black. Very dynamic and detailed and with just enough "tubiness". Pairs very well with my Heresys. Money well spent. I make it a point to listen to it for at least an hour every night.
  17. Maynard here's a schema. I'd be interested in your opinion of the overall design. Thanks.
  18. I have the A10 and love it. My Heresy III speakers are very happy as well. That's just a typo in the manual as Maynard noted.
  19. If you must spend 5 grand go for a McIntosh 275. (Never mind you said integrated. Sorry.)
  20. So may I assume from your answer to my first question that the answer to my second question would be no.
  21. I can only offer advice based on my personal experience. Over the past 8 months that I have used the A10 with the tube adapters I can report no loss of sound quality or any issues at all. They work just fine. Rewiring in my opinion would be a waste of time and money. Try the adapters and don't worry about them. Just enjoy the amp.
  22. I'm just curious. Is your opinion on adapters based in theory or in practice? Did you have a negative experience using an adapter where you could actually hear a degradation in sound?
