  1. I have only run mine with a sub crossed in around 60 Hz. The sub is heavy, want to leave it for now. Doubt if 58 Hertz is enough. But got say, the Heresy iii has more bass than the previous models. They did seem lightweight. The Hiii better balanced.
  2. My La Scala ii’s arrived with damage on the corner of one bass bin box. It was complete penetration on the corner about 10 inches up. The freight company driver said he marked it on pickup. I noted it on delivery ticket. Luckily it was slow at work and ran home to meet the truck. Removed both bass bins and inspected them. No damages to my fading eyesight. The foam corners had prevented damage. All Heritage speakers need the 2.00 worth of additional packaging to minimize the chance of damage. And be palletized to make this easy on the trucking company. Even the Heresy model.
  3. Ward, Those are incredible looking speakers. Makes my cherry Heresy’s and walnut LS look like amateur projects. What drivers, horns, and crossovers did you go with? Good to see you are still cranking out great projects. George
  4. I have a pair of the Heresy III and find the Ti diaphragms extremely revealing. My previous speakers were very good. The Hiii reproduce some music so well it is a surprise how great it sounds. Other music is unlistenable. About half my collection listened to so far sounds worse on the Heresy. About 25% the same, and 25% better on the Heresy. Tells me that a quarter of my music is well recorded.
  5. Best I can figure out the Heresy III has titanium diaphragms. The Klipschorn iii and La Scala iii have phenolic diaphragms.
  6. The Heresy III diaphragms are Ti. Not sure the same as the Crites.
  7. There is a possible improvement using biwired. Any feedback from the woofer back emf is separated from the horns when biwired. Both sets of cables connect right to the amp. The Heresy III jumper is funky. Looks like gold plated sheet metal, but passed the magnet test so they are gold plated brass. I use the four conductor Canare speaker cable. The 16 ga wires. Hook up as a pair for single run and use all four for biwire. Hooked my HIII up as single during break in. Then made another pair using the same wire for biwire. They sounded the same. But still use the biwire cables. Maybe my ears cannot hear the improvement.
  8. I have a pair of La Scala ii coming Tuesday also according to trucking company. Going to place them where the Heresy III sit for starters. My “room” lacks walls, it is a loft area open on two sides. They have to pressurize a big space. Maybe a while before I can comment. But hope to get some playing time Wednesday. It is the 4th of July.
  9. I used to purchase Teflon caps here in Houston. Most were Tex-Caps. Used in high temperature data acquisition ANALOG equipment. Good sound, but steel leads designed to be welded in place and not soldered. Some of the surplus Russian Teflon caps are steel lead also. When I searched the piles of vintage surplus I kept a magnet to check caps and resistors. I really doubt most well made film and foil caps sound differently. Even the metalized film and poly are low distortion. But the pictures of high end crossovers look very nice.
  10. I used to use tube amps. Takes a lot of work to get them quiet enough for a 100+ dB efficient speaker. I have a 300B with pentode input upstairs. Think there is a small push pull also. Also a 3 watt SEP. Sold the rest. I like well done push pull solid state. Less coloration than tubes. I have a SE mosfet amp too. A little compressed on dynamics. Cranks too much heat for Houston. Use a Solid State diy, S/N is around 110 dB. The best S/N tube amp I owned was a Croft OTL. It had only a low level noise with horns. You had to have head close to speaker to hear the heater rush. But it generated over 100 watts of heat for 10 watt output. The euphonics of most tube gear can be very pleasant. I prefer to hear as uncolored red as possible.
  11. Well it is not starting off well. I looked at the invoice and it shows one speaker. So now adding a second with instructions for a set.
  12. I will call tomorrow to speak with Clairz T. Hopefully still there. Thanks for the help. I am pumped!
  13. I will make room. Just ordered a pair over the phone. What is the drill to get a matched pair? Talked to the salesperson and he knew nothing about this. My wife will kill me when they show up.
  14. There are multiple theories. Some feel the turn on/off cycle stresses the components. Other are concerned with MHBF and turn off to keep hours down. I doubt it makes difference if you swap amps like some do adult diapers. Unless a heat cranking Class A or no playing for a week I leave mine on. My current amp gets up to speed very fast. I have had some tube amps that took 10 - 15 minutes to get together. Bias, emmisions, who knows.
  15. I have a pair of Heresey III. Love the sound. Now I want to get an old pair and rebuild. Not necessary to be Heresey’s. Want a pair with real wood cabinets and alnico magnets. I used Lowther’s for a long time and know how the BL drops over time. Plus expect veneer issues after 40 years. I think the cabinets changed in early 80’s. Other manufacturers swapped to ceramic magnets much earlier due to cost. What was the time frame of when Klipsch switched from alnico magnet drivers? Were all first series plywood and alnico?
  16. That is 500.00 plus shipping, then the parts to make them Super Heresys. I calculate around 1100.00 all in. I have checked Craig’s List, eBay and other options for a nice pair to start with. Found new iii for around 1500.00/pr delivered. New grills, woodwork, and risers. I hope to locate a pair of original locally for 300.00. No such luck so far.
  17. I cannot find a nice pair of Heresy I to modify. Would like the real plywood cabinets, at 40 years old. But even later ones are expensive - 500.00. Can get the Heresy iii for a little more than the Super Heresy total cost. I use subs, how much am I giving up going iii vs Super Heresy?
