  1. Tetanus..... The tetanus infectious organism is common. It resides in the soil naturally and contaminates all sorts of things. It is everywhere. Tetanus is lethal in 30% of untreated cases and the course of the disease is not pretty. We don’t hear much about tetanus at least not in America. The tetanus vaccine has been around a long time and virtually nobody ever questions getting vaccinated or keeping their vaccination updated. Tetanus is everywhere. Covid19 is everywhere. Acutely Covid19 may not be statistically as lethal but we still do not know all the ramifications of the disease. We do know that covid19 causes damages to many internal organs and the brain. In time todays’ covid19 could lead to a host of chronic disabilities some which could be life ending. But covid19 is mutating. By shear volume of reproduction covid19 is changing. It could easily change into a much more lethal version. Another coronavirus known as middle eastern version that jumped from camels to humans was 30% lethal. Fortunately that virus was contained. Not so for covid19. Every covid19 infection results in billions of reproduction events any one which could mutate into a real nightmare. You need to not get covid19. Humanity needs covid19 controlled - ideally eliminated. So - if you got your tetanus shot....... and I know you all did...... there’s no excuse for not getting your covid19 vaccination. Pass this clear explanation to anyone considering holding off on their inoculation. https://www.healthline.com/health/tetanus
  2. You are spot on correct. The more people who contract covid19 the more opportunities it has to mutate. It can mutate into something worse or something better but we only care about bad shifts in the virus. Insofar as the vaccines go newer methods used to develop them may be nimble enough to be tweaked for new variants. Eventually we may see a battery of vaccine types all combined in a single inoculation.
  3. The 60 cycle of alternating current can physically loosen wires attached by screws by vibration. But this usually results in failure of the switch to function, no light. Sounds like your switch is merely loose at its hard point screws. Remove the switch plate and inspect it. The fire hazard should be minimal as the wires are well separated and are designed to fail safe per UL guidelines.
  4. The existing vaccine manufacturing giants already exist in India. There’s just a huge volume of souls to be inoculated. Honestly for the amount of distrust that already exists I personally would be worried about a gov’t related temporary drug facility.
  5. I’m relating to current articles. There’s plenty of different reasons for loads of covid19 mistakes all around the world. America does not lead the world in any category. The key mistakes were the earliest ones because they botched the only true opportunity to prevent the pandemic. That leaves 2 parties, China and the WHO. Period.
  6. You mean like restricting national travelers, national lockdowns, quarantine periods, isolation guidelines, military assisted care? Get over it Zen. I can assure you that any other admin would not have done any better and maybe even worse. So let’s keep the thread open. Stick to the topic (for a change).
  7. The scope of the WHO needs to be re-evaluated. They are too spread out to have the necessary responsiveness for active disease interventions. Insofar as gov’t response goes very few countries have done well. Covid19 is just too infectious for high populations of uncooperative citizens.
  8. Guessing they’re counting on the digital age group that’s pleased enough with their Alexa speakers performance. Seems like a novel collaboration between the entertainment crowd in need of a covid19 free market avenue and some techies. They’ve simply laid out a ‘range’ of prospective income streams and’ll take whatever they can get from any, or all. I’d wager their streaming service will work for any system.......... if not now certainly in time.
  9. Here’s an interesting article on an effort to study other diseases that exist in nature which may pose future potential for another, and perhaps much worse, pandemic. The effort/subject/topic is in itself clearly of importance but what’s also noteworthy is that the WHO is not mentioned as part of this endeavor once again raising questions about it’s relevance. The WHO failed horribly to manage covid19 though it was clearly hamstrung by China. We need efforts like the those mentioned in this article and we need quicker actions from every country all over the planet. As much as we dislike/fear covid19 there’s real potential for a new virus that would make covid19 look pleasant. As the world population grows it encroaches further into the wilds where these novel viruses exist naturally. EBOLA and AIDS are 2 other examples of diseases brought on humanity in this manner. We can study them in advance or await them as they emerge. We did not do so well with covid19. Most of this blame lies with China where quicker response could’ve ended covid19 at its headwaters. Once loose covid19 spread was inevitable. The only question was how fast it was going to spread. Again the WHO dropped that ball when it should’ve been commanding the project. The vaccines are humanities shining star/silver lining. But we’ve got to do better in the future. For me, I believe the WHO needs a serious overhaul in this regard. https://www.thedailybeast.com/heading-off-the-next-pandemic
  10. Well I am thinking bass absorption versus reflection....... the audible component. We know that sound can be dampened by material alone so I’d presume less absorption would translate into more reflection? Would this result in a ‘tighter’ bass response? Isn’t this a similar (if opposite) treatment consideration to dampening a room with bass traps?
  11. Lemme ask this. What difference does it make whether it is backed to a wall or wood? Mine are cornered in traditional fashion. Yet ‘all’ the bass does not get reflected. I can hear bass thumping through the adjoining walls. If bass reflection is the goal why not back them with something heavier like rock or a very dense and thick piece of wood? Has anyone assessed bass reflection from the materials perspective? In other words if I had my corners covered in sheet slate where the khorns set would that provide any benefit?
  12. Hmmmm...... I’d agree that the SS sub forum may not be terribly active because nothing blows up, burns out or can be altered by rolling $$$$$ tubes. I recall tubes burning out in my parents Fisher 500 and my own experience with tubes was less than sterling. Ever hear Accuphase SS? I’ve had 2 Accuphase amps and aside from missing the glow of the tubes that is all I miss about them now.
  13. It is from an odd resource but a nice overview of covid19 related cardiac damage in healthy athletes. This is important to comprehend. Way too many non-elderly people feel that covid19 is a new but benign virus. It won’t kill them. Covid19 is only lethal for the infirm and the elderly. In actuality covid19 is impacting everyone who contracts the disease. The papers summarized here look only at cardiac damage but other organ systems are as well affected. It’s not clear how these damages will impact health status later in life but their existence is clear and it is ominous. Covid19 could be seeding a plethora of latent health conditions. This underscores the need to quash covid19 urgently. https://www.bloodyelbow.com/2021/1/2/22209765/report-heart-damage-found-athletes-suffered-mild-cases-covid-19-ufc
  14. I was just out of high school and had yet to begin college, had more questions than answers at the time. Lots of great music and music experiences back then. Lived in west Los Angeles and am/fm tended to overplay certain artists/songs. Got real tired of Elton John. But IMHO it was nearing the end of 15 years of great music with the disco genre defining the nail in that particular coffin. Loads of memories mostly good and some not-so-good.
  15. Long ago a friend and I were cruising around Lake Forest in Orange County California. We we’re hanging out in a new housing development near where he lived and a site security guard stopped to see what we were up to. He was a nice portly older man and we got to talking. Then he told us that he was Dawn Wells father. We sort of didn’t believe him until he pulled out his wallet and showed us pictures of her as a child, a teenager and as an adult. Still we wondered why he was working night shift as a rent-a-cop. But that was his story and he was sticking by it. She always seemed much more genuine than most hollyweird sorts. Oddly I’d actually met Bob Denver when I was a kid. He did a greet-n-meet at our elementary school as Maynard G. Krebs his character on the Dobbie Gillis sitcom. Somewhere in the family archives there’s a picture of me shaking his hand.
  16. More on current Chinese sequestration of covid19 data. https://www.newsweek.com/china-suppressing-research-covid-origins-xi-jinpings-orders-documents-show-1558068
  17. ........ guess I should’ve mentioned that she died from covid19.
  18. Just read that Dawn Wells has passed on at age 82. She’s now with Gilligan. So sad.
  19. The only thing I know for certain about illegals from the south is that they tend to live in high density circumstances which has never been compatible with an infectious disease.
  20. I hope that we can learn from the experience but.............. who knows. Everything has gotten so idiotic. If I can ask a favor...... when you say ‘the odds of dying are very low’ qualify the statement by adding that with the best modern medicine can give those odds are low. And when the medical systems get overwhelmed they do not work their best. And they are becoming very fragile in many places right this minute. I am very concerned about the next several months.
  21. Sounds like a fantastic facility and one that certainly can be challenging. I have worked as a long term care ombudsman and highly respect well run operations. Kudos to you both and your group. So yeah covid19 brings us to uncharted waters especially in your arena. I have no answers for your vaccination enigma. All you can do is drill down on the regulations and manage the issues. If your residents all get vaccinated then you may side step the dilemma but you still need to know personnel guidelines. You certainly must avoid active covid19 in your environment from any source (vendors too).
  22. I was not limiting my comment to “scientific” information.
  23. Do not know what country you’re in. But if the facilities need to meet medical certification criteria to operate then they need to field policies to meet those regulations. If an employee decides not to meet their job requirements then they may have to be released and new employees hired willing to accommodate them. For example, JCAHO requires an accredited hospital to meet reverse isolation standards. Sounds simple enough..... but these days that means every employee must wear masks when around patients. Well some employees don’t wanna wear masks for whatever reasons (mostly to protest the mask mandate directives) and try to present excuses as to why they should be the exception to the guidelines. Well if you give them what why want and allow them to work ‘mask less’ then the facility is out of compliance with JCAHO standards and risks losing their certification. So no mask means you cannot work in that setting - period. That said I do not know of any such JCAHO requirements for vaccinations but I haven’t looked either.
  24. So, what was important for the public to understand about how covid19 would impact their country and their personal lives? IMHO it was/is the comprehension of how lethal the disease is. How many people are dying because covid19 is here this year as opposed to prior years? This way they could respond appropriately. Some could argue that giving the public too much information is not necessary as long as you can demand/require their obedience to the proper public health guidelines. China avers that because of their authoritarian system that the public needs to know nothing. And that may indeed work for their citizens but certainly not for the rest of the world who truly does need to know the complete scenario to properly respond. In this regard China did not care or, perhaps, did not want the west to properly intervene in time to avert a serious pandemic. In between we have Russia that chose to use information control not so much to actually care for their populace but to make the government appear to be more successful in managing the disease. In America we had covid19 become politicized and the accurate data deployed in near malicious fashion to bolster vote counts. That resulted in more chaos than managed control/containment. Interesting to witness history in the making. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-55474028
