  1. 1 degree in Cornfield county ,IN. - 15 windchill.
  2. Just wanted to comment , it don't get much better than that.....
  3. It may be, but looks are not a sign. If it's the junker you'll know. You'll be thinkin, that's not too loud, and it won't be,,,,,,,,good luck. Now that I think about it I think the good ones have a decent heat sink instead of just electronics.
  4. If they are 7's of any type, in good condition they're gonna be worth a Grand. The Marantz is fine, plenty power for any normal listening. If you want to get the best any 7's have to offer it's gonna require money and power. That just means they can grow to just about any system you can afford (less you're rich, then space etc.... should be no issue). I had 500 watts per channel on mine for a while and they just got better. I had a 75 watt Rotel that was great too. Do it......
  5. If there are reasons, new space, different needs (ht vs music) etc......maybe. Everyone has their own opinion. Here's mine, that would be a non starter too me. I've owned most all of the real reference speakers. The 20's are so much better than all but the rf7's it's not even a comparison. That's just my take, which is the one that matters......to me.
  6. I'd hook up that NAD with any old speaker wire 16g or better and move on to the next parts of your system. If you don't like it after a few days you'll know. I seriously doubt you would be dissatisfied. If you are however , thats when the search starts. There can be avrs better than separates, old am/fm receivers or integrateds, better than avrs or any combo, it's all about taste and money.
  7. I can certainly understand that. The size of the room being pretty important. If you dont need/use additional power it's a lot less hassle. I use several avrs that do have pre outs , and amps setting unhooked for that very reason myself. I'm also of the opinion that at lower volumes amps have more similar sound. Pre amps are where I put my trust at all volumes. .
  8. I was just curious cause this statement had no qualifiers. So was this determined at normal listening levels, 60,70,80 db? Or, when you crank it up to 115 db for a few minutes you heard no difference ? If not that Denons a real winner.
  9. Used don't scare me in the least,or a large number of buyers evidently. I've sold many thousands of $ on this site with never a complaint. I don't think I've ever had a used/refurb unit fail of 20+ I've owned in the last few decades. I sold every one for what I paid or more after using them all I cared to. All the duds I bought were new oddly enough. I bought a used Onkyo 5008 a few years back for $200, with reciept, box, I sure would not pay $2500.Still using it, its 8 or 9 years old plays from 5 or 6 pm till 12 or 1 am 6 days a week for a few years. A sweet Sherwood 972 for $250, not $2k. I have used units 45 years old still rockin . They probably been through worse than sitting on carpet. A used Anthem 5xx, or 7xx under a grand, pretty sweet. There certainly is nothing wrong with new either if that's your thing. These companies need to make money. I just think all this stuff is overpriced new.
  10. Certainly one anyone that cares about music would look at. Considering it's priced like a higher end Denon or Yamaha etc.....you'd think it would be clearing off the shelfs. Just one of the best avr line ups in it's price range, imo. Buying used would be even better still, maybe 1k or less for sonic bliss, yep....NAD another good one priced refurb wise.....sounds similar to upper HKs to me.
  11. I actually typed a big whoop and deleted it. Long story short, I bought a Denon 4520ci about two years ago. It was like a 2k avr I bought for $800 delivered. It was sounded so bad I thought it was defective. I got another but it was the same, I was really bummed cause it had such great specs and features. If it would have sounded as good as the 38xx I would have kept it. I also had a Yamaha Aventage some years back, not too impressed, I sold it here for about 1/2 its retail. Since the "digital" age I have not heard one avr that really did it for me. The Rotel and Harman Kardon , Sherwood, were decent. Now don't get me wrong, for general use they all are ok. I have a cheap Onkyo and a lower end Pioneer Elite, both are fine for their use. The Pioneer would be my pick for music. The old Denons were solid good performers and solid real power. They may have even been great for music with other speakers but the 7's really needed more in the preamp departmant. Now that I think about it...I gave the 3803 to my son and some dcm 212's and they sounded pretty good just to hear, don't know about listening.
  12. I had Denon when I joined this forum, 3802, then 03, 05 till I became bored and unhappy with the sound on rf7's. I added a Parasound amp and that helped but still too polite. The Emotiva's are on par with Rotel, Outlaw etc.....Just way better sound for music and movies, to my ears. They(Emo)priced themselves out of my range unless you want to miss features. For music, critical listening no big companies cut it for me, I've had em' all. I use an old Sansui for music. I have an Onkyo 5008, best they made and it's just ok, for music. I know the threads old but........
  13. I have this amp, the 2020a. I use it on my front porch with chromecast audio. Its a really good amp for my purpose, I left it on all summer and fall, outside in a basket. I bought the cheap fake version used for $5 delivered, it was 2x what is was worth. Make sure to get the real one. It's got more power than I could believe for it's size, and sounds really good, imo. I've listened to it many hrs looking at the sky..... It replaced a Jamo 50 watt per channel with toroidal supply. At any modest volume it sounded about as good.
  14. Fit , finish and looks were not priority on these. They were built to a spec, to do a specified job, not really to put in your living room. But I thought they looked ok in mine, with covers on.....
  15. I just noticed that the woofer has the same quibble in the cone as the original. It does not show up so much in my pics but they were the same. It seems like the color was even black/green hue
  16. Thanks for the read, pretty interesting. I was also surprised to kinda agree with stereophile. When I had these I listened late at night, lower volume, maybe 80 some db. I also incorporated a sub and eq after a few days to get a fuller sound. If I lived in a 10 x 12 room full of stuff I could be pretty happy with em'.
  17. Ok, I found my old pics. I forgot one was missing a badge, prolly cost $500, ha........
  18. Well....I didn't think they were worth $2k, but to each .......That wood looks great.
  19. I got a few hdmi chromecast around . Back in day before everything had wifi/dlna or apps it was pretty handy. Like you said they work good for dumb tvs. That's kinda the cool thing about the audio cast, being able to hook it to dumb radios, preamps or even an old am/fm eight track turntable with aux in. Of course being able to receive FLAC files to an analog preamps in and around my house is my main use.
  20. I bought an Onkyo tx777 for $259 open box. It has phono stage, hdmi, networking, internet radio, usb and pile of features. I have it hooked to two dcm kx212 (big) speakers ,4 ohm I think. Gets really loud, has manual and auto EQ and sounds pretty good for that price. I'm sure there are some variety out there that would do it.
  21. Working Atmos in may be fine but I do agree the number of speakers is gettin; pretty far out. Quality over quantity is still a good practice.
  22. You do know the BB double 8 inch version is/was $224 each? Or FRY"S puts the rf82II's on sale for about the $450 a set ? You may already know all that, disregard if so. EDIT, just noticed you were not in the US?
