  1. Just to clarify, do you get 60% off, or 60% of (40% off) the MSRP? I think I need to make friends with one of those guys at Best Buy. Which store do you work at? I agree with ToddVJ. In my opinion, you're best off going for the best fronts and center you can at this time (which would be RF7's and an RC7). Fill the other positions with anything for now and upgrade over time. Your front array is really what matters and you can't do better than the R7 line. At your discount, you could probably afford to fill the rear and surrounds with SS.5's and an SC.5 and still stay under your $1200 budget. Your receiver is fine to drive these speakers.
  2. Hi all, I just helped a friend add a cheap sub to his HT system this weekend. Don't worry, he's all about upgrades, just wanted any sub for now. The problem was that he wanted it located in the back corner of the room, with the cable running up the wall 8', through the ceiling 12', and back down the wall 8'. Best Buy's longest subwoofer cable was 15' long. $15 from Acoustic Research and $59 from Monster, guess which we picked? He resigned himself to the fact that he would have a cable along the baseboard and would get as close to his preferred spot as possible. On our way back to his place, we stopped at Radio Shack for a video cable and I thought to ask the guy there if he had any longer cables for the sub. He showed us a basic 24' cable with RCA connectors on each end for $7 and assured us it would do the job. We also bought an adaptor to hook the 6' stock cable that came with the sub to the 24' section. We were skeptical, but hooked it all up and it worked fine! Now I'm not looking for an argument about the value of high cost cables, wires, etc. We both understand the value of quality. But can anyone tell me why longer cables aren't packaged and marketed for subs? Also, why does a 6 foot "Sub" interconnect cost twice as much as a 6 foot video cable from the same company and in the same product line? Is it simply because most people don't know better?
  3. Damn! I can't believe I'll be driving through Indiana two weekends in June of 2004 and neither were picked! So much for fate. Well, I make this trip every year, so maybe next time.
  4. Well, I've had the HK 125 for over a week and I love it. I still need to fine tune the speaker levels, but it sounds great as it is. ecost is great for anyone who's considering them. Good price and quick shipping. It's official, I have a relapse of upgraditis. I ordered the Speaker Plugs that OP had posted about a while ago. Had to have them now that my receiver accomodates them. I also ordered a Home Theater Master MX500 remote which should arrive Friday! That's right, I'm going from having to stand to adjust the volume, to a top-notch universal remote. Of course, now my remote costs more than half the price of my receiver. But I'm sure future receiver upgrades while take care of that differential. I think I'm okay for a while, but three upgrades in 2 weeks sure was fun. Thanks again to everyone for the advice. I probably wouldn't have gone for HK otherwise and I definitely wouldn't have found ecost.
  5. Sounds to me like the connection between your source and your receiver is to blame because of your DTS clue. I believe the sound signal for DTS movies is sent through the TOSLINK fiber optic connection, whereas other sources are sent through whatever other connection(s) you have. I'm guessing that the other connection is either loose or otherwise faulty.
  6. Mine came with a little note from the PA Attorney General, so maybe they are state by state. ---------------- On 2/24/2004 8:54:38 AM Frzninvt wrote: I put in for that too when the thread popped up on the forum awhile back. I still have no check. Maybe they are doing certain parts of country at a time. ----------------
  7. So the only benefit of running everything through the receiver is to avoid switching the input on the TV? Th expense of extra cables and a converter for those who need it (I would) hardly seems worth it instead of just clicking the TV input button once or twice. Am I missing something?
  8. Got mine, plus the one I filed in my wife's name. hehehehehe
  9. Even better, here is the one and only authorized dealer in Italy. MPI ELECTRONICS SRL VIA DE AMICIS 10/12 MILAN, 20010 ITALY PHONE: 029-361101 www.mpielectronic.com
  10. David, Do yo have any family in the states? They could buy them for you and ship them to Italy.
  11. Actually, the count is as follows, Don't forget to count people who say any weekend works. June 4-5 (8 votes) June 11-12 (10 votes) June 18-19 (8 votes) June 25-26 (11 votes) So, between 8-11 attendees regardless of the weekend so far. Cool!
  12. I think you have to win the prize for killer desktop system! I'll bet even the people using RF7's for their surrounds don't have anything close to this for their computers (except maybe theEars).
  13. Please note that I've started a new thread here in the general questions forum in the hopes of getting a clearer vote tally. It's listed as "Trip to Indy Vote". Clever title, huh?
  14. Brightness is really what the Plasmas have going for them over the projectors. That and the "cool" factor.
  15. Someone else will give you a much more detailed response I'm sure. But, yes, there are meters that I've seen at home depot which can send a test signal through the line to tell wires apart. I think they're made for phone lines, but the signal should still go through, I would think.
  16. Geez, it's like you Nawlens guys are talking in code!
  17. I just bought a Harman Kardon AVR 125 from ecost.com. I don't have it yet, but it doesn't have everything you're looking for. They also have the HK AVR 525 listed which more than meets your requirements. It's a factory refurb and is selling for $469 with free shipping. Mine came with a 90 day manufacturers warranty, so I'm guessing this one does as well. Don't know what the original MSRP was, but I found it new for $570 at etronics. Check out the direct links below: eCost etronics
  18. Hi all, Looks like we have good interest in a trip this summer. The thread now contains lots of quotes and narratives (including mine) about why one date is better than another. In order to get a cleaner vote tally, how about this? Post to this thread with only your date preference. No reasons, no quotes, etc. If you have mutliple weekends that are equally good, list each of them in the same post and they will each count as a vote for that weekend. That way a simple tally will show us which weekend is best for the most people. Of course, Klipsch will ultimately select the weekend, but I'm sure they'd like to know which one is likely to draw the most people. Remember, DATES ONLY!
  19. I couldn't wait any longer! I'll let you know what I think of ecost. The lady on the phone was very pleasant and had quick answers to my questions. Thanks again for the advice everyone. NO MORE STANDING UP TO ADJUST THE VOLUME!!!!!!!
  20. Burt or anyone else, Have you bought anything from ecost? I'm minutes away from buying the HK 125 and just a little nervous since I haven't used them before. ---------------- On 2/13/2004 8:27:16 PM burtlively wrote: check out the ecost.com denon & hk refurbs. i just picked up a yamaha rxv730 for $288 at tweeter. ----------------
  21. Oh man oh man oh man. I live in Eastern PA, but will ALREADY be driving through Indy on June 25/26 on my way home from MO. That's my vote. Geez I hope this works out, it's destiny right?
  22. Ahhhhhhhh! The sweet agony of choosing a new component. I'm 99% sure that I'm going for the HK 125 refurb for $179 and free shipping. It's seems hard to go wrong at that price. I also like the Pioneer 912, but not at double the price of the HK unit. Thank you all for your suggestions, you really helped me narrow the field!
