  1. Hello all, In doing my summer clearing of stuff, (I'm a teacher, I do this every summer!) I came across these cables in my audio stash. I have three 10 foot cables in excellent condition. Two with banana terminations and one with bare wire termination. These came with a complete system I purchased used a while back. I'm not a huge cable guy, so I thought I would pass these on to someone who will get some use out of them. For reference: A pair of Z series Monster cables just sold on the forum on July 30 for what looks like to be $150 and there is also a set of three slightly longer THX1000 cables on eBay for $228 shipped plus whatever tax is. For forum members: I'm asking $100 local pick up. 60511 Chicago far Western suburbs I'm asking $120 shipped for all three cables If they don't sell here by the end of the weekend, I will post them locally. I just wanted to give forum members first chance to purchase. Thanks and let me know if you have any questions. The sales pitch from Crutchfield: To get the best possible sound from your high-performance home theater system, you need high-performance speaker cable. Monster's Ultra Series cables exceed rigorous performance and reliability standards set by THX, a division of Lucasfilm, Ltd. dedicated to ensuring cinema-quality home entertainment. Ultra Series cables use quality construction and advanced Monster technologies to deliver the cleanest signal to your speakers. Special windings for different frequencies help preserve detail and improve imaging. Large-gauge copper conductors ensure that high frequencies don't degrade as the signal travels along the cable, keeping the sound crisp and clear. Banana plugs provide a rock-solid connection for maximum signal transfer, with 24k gold contacts to resist corrosion. Product Highlights: THX-certified for accurate home theater sound reproduction QuadriPole® construction minimizes high-frequency loss Magnetic Flux Tube® increases current handling for deep, tight bass Time Correct® windings for improved imaging banana connectors with 9 contact springs 24k gold contacts resist corrosion lifetime warranty
  2. I think it gives the audiophiles something to debate to justify the outrageous amounts of money spent on equipment. In addition, I never understood when people say something along the lines of, "It captures the essence of the live performance." To me, every concert I have attended ( Rush, Metallica, Steve Miller, Cake, etc.) I have never walked away and said to myself that I want to try and recreate that in my home. The impact due to sheer volume is cool, for a bit! However, most concerts are too loud, not very well balanced and not what I would call sound that I want to hear at home in my system. So, I understand that people would want to recreate the energy of the live performance...but the sound? No thanks. I'll take a well recorded studio album, at volumes I choose and without the echo issues of sports arenas! Related story: I was on a date in downtown Yorkville, Illinois about 10 years ago at a nice little restaurant right off the river. The waitress asked us if we were here for the free concert at the the park down the street? (No wonder why parking was harder than usual at this restaurant!) We said no, but we both loved music, so we meandered down a few blocks to Van Emmon park right on the Fox River. Well, it turns out it was Norah Jones! What a great way to extend the date. I couldn't tell you about the imaging, but I still remember holding each other close and dancing... not a bad first date!
  3. Buy with confidence! dtr20 helped me get a center channel from someone on the East coast that didn't want to do shipping...so he bought it, packed it very well and shipped it to me in the Midwest!!!
  4. Beautiful gear! Unfortunately I'm in a similar situation as you as I'm still purging equipment as I have a 3 and a 5 year old. It gets expensive... especially considering current inflation!!! My 2cents... If you don't have a Costco membership, I would recommend you get one! They have great sales on Huggies diapers.... this month it's $10.50 off per box! Before kids... After kids... Yes, that's over $1000 of diapers!!! Best of luck with your growing family.
  5. Weekend bump.... I have one port that needs a good home!
  6. There was also a black pair that came up in the Chicagoland area a while back for $800 that I was thinking about, but being a teacher with our outstanding pay, I couldn't justify picking them up just to use them as the fronts in my home theater. Not a bad choice, as right after that, my family started to grow and the official home theater was turned into a play area! Good luck with your search. If you're not in a rush, you will find the set you want!
  7. Here's my thoughts after trying many different set-ups for home theater over the years. You're off to a good start with the three rp-8000f II for your l/c/r upfront. Buying 4 more rp-8000f II's for your surrounds is not ideal for several reasons. 1) Having a large tower speaker limits ideal speaker placement for side and back surrounds 2) There's absolutely no need for a large full-range speaker as most of the surround material doesn't have very low frequency content. (Unless you specifically set up your system to do so!) 3) Cost! You can get 2 side surrounds (rp-502II) and 2 back surround s(rp-600m II or rp-500m II) for about the same price as 1 set of rp8000f II's My suggestion: follow #3 above and use the extra money you saved and buy a decent subwoofer, or two! Tidbit's of knowledge I've gained over the years (Take 'em or laugh at 'em , it's up to you!) 1) The center channel and subwoofer(s) are the two most important speakers in a home theater.... this is where I dump most of my money and have had the largest return on my investment when it comes to sound quality. (But don't skimp on the other speakers either) 2) You can run all of the room correction programs until you are so thoroughly confused that you will believe anything the latest "expert" tells you. But ultimately, I end up tweaking it until it sounds good to ME! 3) Spend some time setting up your system correctly... don't cheese out and try to get it up and running so quickly that you end up cutting corners telling yourself that you will go back and fix that when you have time.... one almost never finds the time!!! Also, don't be afraid to revisit it and tweak it to your liking as you settle in over the years. 4) Having all of the same speakers all around is not needed to enjoy a wonderful home theater experience. People swear by this and tell you that you will hear a huge difference in the sound/timber because you have different tweeters, woofers, etc. That's BS, just like expensive cables, cable risers, and tube connectors! You will only hear it if you want to hear it. Once your movie starts and everything is going full tilt, you will not notice any difference in sound as the car passes from the left channel across the center and then on to the right channel. If one can actually hear these differences, then they are the type of person that will bi-wire their speakers and swear it makes a difference. I hope at least some of this was helpful.
  8. I'll even help load it in your vehicle!
  9. My thought: Instead of spending money on a matching set of speakers to run 2 sets, spend the equivalent money (or more if you have it) on a subwoofer. (There are a lot of great used ones out there if you want to keep costs down.) This will give you more bang for your buck and likely a broader frequency reproduction. This will also remove some of the low end duty from your current speakers and shift that responsibility to the subwoofer. As a result, your overall sound should improve if you take a moment to blend the system together (crossover point, positioning of the sub, levels, etc.) Since you stated you don't listen at higher volumes, there is no need to have 4 speakers instead of 2. If you were going for pure loudness, 4 speakers would accomplish this, but also introduce some of the other issues other's have already mentioned. I hope this helps.
  10. I've had good luck with this. After you attach it, be sure to place a weight of some sort on the dust cap to hold it down while it bonds.
  11. Hello all, I purchased the EV cabinet for $200 because the foam surrounds were totally in need of replacement. My thought was to find another cabinet to make a larger two way system by adding a nice set of horns on top. Well, kids came along and this project got as far as re-foaming the drivers. (Not a pretty job, but they function correctly!) Foam/dust cap kit was $30+tax from The Speaker Exchange. https://reconingspeakers.com/products-page/15-ev-refoam-kit-angle-rfk15-dl15w/ I'm looking to pass this project along to another forum member up for the challenge. The cabinet is in good condition and the speaker cones have no damage. I will audition at time of purchase to verify that everything functions correctly. Let me know if you have any questions. Asking $150 Location: 60511 Far western Chicago suburbs.
  12. Hello all, I'm parting with my trusty RF-3 II's! I replaced all 4 woofers with the new OEM Klipsch woofers from Simply Speakers ($99 each plus tax, etc.) Thus the price I'm asking. They are in very good condition with the exception of the typical grill peg or two missing. My intent was to keep these for my children to use (ages 3 and 5) so they would have some good sounding speakers to shape their love of music as they grow up! However, with the rising cost of everything and an actual pay cut for me as a teacher next year (another blow to teachers!) I've decided to sell these as well as some of my other gear. Audition welcomed at time of purchase. I have some average gear or you may bring your own. I also have some tasty bourbons to sip while auditioning if you're interested. (This is usually how I make good speakers sound even better when I'm listening!) Asking $575 for members Local sale. Location: 60511 far Western suburb of Chicago Feel free to ask any questions. Thanks!
  13. If you're willing to drive, I have a set of cherry 83's in the Chicago area. (They are listed here on the forum)
  14. I used HDMI from my blueray directly to the tv for the video signal and a digital out from the blueray into the Integra for audio. This worked perfectly! I changed from an Emotiva processor to the Integra and that was a noticeable upgrade. I now mostly use my computer as a source to watch both streaming platforms (netflix and amazon prime) as well as 1080 or higher content I download and then watch. (hmdi from computer into my outlaw audio 976 processor, then hdmi output from the 976 into the 4k tv.) I almost regret updating to the outlaw audio 976 processor just to pass a 4K signal! Not that the Outlaw is bad.... it sounds great (minus the remote snafu that they wont address!) but I don't realize any significant difference from 1080 to 4k unless I am less than about 3 feet from the screen... and on a 70" TV, that really doesn't work too well!!! And let's be honest, there is not a ton of 4k content available for how most of us watch content. I am actually debating putting the outlaw up for sale and then just keeping the one that doesn't sell. I like the 4k capability of the Outlaw 976 and the sound is amazing for both home theater or 2 channel. However, the Integra, even though it doesn't do 4K, does sound amazing and doesn't have the remote issues the 976 has! I hope my rambling has helped! On a side note: My ultimate goal was to find a decent 7.1 processor that does 4K. I don't want anything that has all of the fancy bells and whistles, I just am looking for one that sounds incredible and doesn't need constant tweaking/updating to work! Any suggestions?
  15. Hello all, This works perfectly and is in excellent condition. Remote, manual, calibration microphone and original box are included. Comes from a pet and smoke free home. Tons of info online about this.(See links below) Some highlights I loved about this: Balanced (XLR) and RCA outputs You can adjust the channel levels on the remote! (Very convenient for when you just need to quickly bump up the center for dialogue, or adjust the bass levels to account for poorly mixed movies/content.) Very transparent sound Audition is available when you pick it up to verify that everything functions correctly. $300 picked up $360 Shipped Location: 60511 Western burbs of Chicago Feel free to ask any questions.
