Having gotten that off my chest, I was fortunate last week to have been front row to see #2 Jeff Beck and #3 BB King in concert. I can honestly say both of those men deserve the slots they were given. The two of them playing together was an awesome thing to see and hear. ~shoe

  4. I'm quite confident in the reliability of the RSW's, but I have to say from having a 5.1 ProMedia sub go bad and then following Moon's issue with his 15 that the prospect of having one of mine go bad lingers in the back of my mind sometimes. ~shoe

I have also read the 2900 had some bugs and was considering the purchase of a high end DVD player and a seperate universal player down the road. This thread really helped me. When is the 3900 to be released? Will it be a universal format version. ---------------- Jeff, From what I've read the 3900 is still largely vaporware. It's been discussed online in the DVD section of www.avsforum.com since before even the 2900 was released. Honestly I stopped following it once I bought the 2900. I know that a Denon rep named Jeff posts on that site fairly frequently. If you search around on there I suspect you'd find some information regarding it's possible specs and release date. ~shoe
  6. The 2900 is a great multi-format player. I've had it since they were released and haven't had a single problem with it. I am aware that there are some A/V tests that it apparently either doesn't pass or bypasses, etc. as per some rantings on some of the AV forums, but honestly that stuff doesn't concern me as they appear to be only for the technically obsessive. I've found that for each type of media I've used, the 2900 has worked great. Having said that the 2900 does not replace the 3800 as there is rumored to be a 3900 model perhaps due by the end of the year. The 3900 will probably be substantially more money and for my situation ~1k was plenty to spend for the performance I get from the 2900. ~shoe
  7. Matt, I use the Sanus Ulitimate Foundations with my RB-5's and enjoy them very much. They are well made, look great and didn't cost too much. I would recommend them for the 35's as well. ~shoe
  8. Ahhhh....someone else shares the same twisted upgrade thoughts that I do. I've pondered your exact question with the exact subs for a few months now, but have kept that thought way in the back of my mind for fear of the additional upgrades/switches it might set off. First off, I tried the REL Strata III with my RF-7's and was disappointed. The 7's and that REL sub were not a match. The REL's are more refined, audiophile subs which faithfully reproduce the bottom octave, but don't exaggerate it. It was not a slam subwoofer. The 7's were just way too much main speaker for the Strata. This is simply my experience with them. If I were running a less robust set of mains or a nice set of monitors for a dedicated 2.1 setup I think the REL would do quite well. Case in point, I almost purchased the SF Concerto/REL Strata III combo. The Storm might be a different issue. I know for a fact one of our active members has one and uses it with RF-7's. The Velodyne or the Descent will definitely give you the additiona sub-30hz you desire and both are highly regarded and priced accordingly. As I already have the full complement of Klipsch channels, I'm more hesitant to replace my 15's as I find their performance great for music, I like having a complete Klipsch system and I don't like the thought of paying another ~1k more for slightly more extension/output. The cost benefit analysis just isn't very strong for me given my current position. Still from what I've found we Klipsch folks seem to be far more loyal to the main channel Klipsch models than to their subs. I just can't bring myself to part with my 15's.....yet . For you, I say go for it and let us know what you think. Besides you have 30 days to try it out with Tweeter. Only problem would be if you don't like it, proceed to take it back and find out that Tweeter has already moved your loyal RSW-15 that you traded in. No more Klipsch at Tweeter. Makes that trade-in awful painful if you find you liked the RSW better or the difference wasn't worth the extra ~1k. ~shoe

  10. avman~ Sorry to hear about your loss. I was there a few years ago with my dog. She lived to be 17 years old until I finally had to have her put to sleep. Definitely a very sad day in my life. Hang in there. Many of us can relate to what you're feeling today. ~shoe
  11. Didn't think I had purchased all that much, but on reflection my list for 03 is: 2 RSW-15's 1 Denon DVD-2900 Multi player 1 Headroom Maxed Out Home Reference 1 Senn HD-600 1 Cardas cable for said 600's Salamander Synergy 30 and SVDO stands ~shoe
  12. All, A co-worker of mine just sent to me the following attached pic. I was surprised that they had Heritage speakers. Question is what model are these? I believe they're Forte's, but if someone could confirm that I'd appreciate it. ~shoe
  13. I agree with what Justin said. I use to go to the MTV sites each week to get their current playlists and then I'd use a P2P to find copies of those songs. I'd download them, stick them on my portable MP3 player I use at the gym and then those I liked, I'd go out and buy the CD. The best part is that many times these were unheard of artists so the CD's at retail were less than $10. I found a lot of new music that I liked by doing this. Even with the ones I downloaded, but didn't like, I wouldn't share those. I'd delete the whole batch every Sunday and start over again. To me one of the biggest reasons that CD sales have gone down is that at this time there is little to no distribution/release of multiple tracks from an album. As a kid growing up, I was able to buy 45rpm singles which would contain 2 songs from an album. In some cases the record label would release 3 or even 4 singles from that album. Nowadays there is no singles distribution at all. I remember specifically that Van Halen's 1984 and MJ's Thriller each had almost half of their tracks released outside of the dedicated album. Now the labels release one song from a CD and that's it. To me it's no wonder so many albums never get off the ground. The labels look for only the initial Tuesday sales figures and then it's over. So then consumers have to decide if on the basis of that one song, if it's worth dropping $10 or more, blindly for the other tracks. What I would like to see is that for any single the record labels release via radio or video, that they also provide a free MP3 for that one track(maybe even a 2nd "B" side track) and give it a timestamp good for a week let's say. That way I can have time to hear it a few times and decide if I like it enough to get the whole CD. I have no problem with the RIAA going after people who are sharing MP3's in order to protect their copyright, but I think they are hurting themselves with a delivery method that could be very profitable for them. Sueing a few hundred may stop the file sharing, but I wonder if they have any idea at the amount of negative sentiment this creates within the buying public. What a PR disaster. ~shoe
  14. JM~ With SACD you have to use the 5.1 analog outputs. There is no digital out for SACD nor DVD-A that I'm aware of. Some manufacturers have been granted proprietary solutions where they can utilize a digital link out of their players, but this setup requires a dedicated combination of their player and their receiver. Pioneer has this now, Sony has one upcoming I believe in their new ES line and I've heard Denon may do something like that in the upcoming DVD-3900. At this point without a 5.1 analog input set on your receiver, hi-rez multi-channel is not an option for you. You could, however, buy a SACD player and use it's regular 2 channel analog out for 2 channel hi-rez until you acquire a receiver/processor with 5.1 analog outputs. Also remember the digital outputs be it coax or toslink are still usable for both CD and DVD. If you use the digital out, then your receiver will need to handle the D/A and surround decoding. I myself bought the Denon DVD-2900 combo player when it came out. The way I have it setup now is I run everything directly out of the player's 5.1 analog outputs into my receiver. This includes DVD movies. I do this simply because I believe that the decoding circuitry in the 2900 is newer and sounds better than when decoded by my receiver. Of course I could also connect a digital cable from the player to the receiver for CD and DVD, bypassing the player's decoders and let the receiver do the work for those formats. But again for multi-channel hi-rez I still have to use the 5.1 analog out. Hope this helps explain it a bit. ~shoe
  15. Last, my new Salamander stands. No more gear on boxes for shoe.
  16. I recently acquired a few new additions for personal audio and my HT setup. First up are the Senn HD-600's with a Headroom Maxed Out Home Reference Amp. (Cardas replacement cable for the cheesy stock HD-600 cable due whenever they finally come off backorder.)
  17. BB KING!!!!! Old enough to be my grandfather, but my absolute favorite. Anybody else just catch his Live by Request with Jeff Beck tonight? He's just the MAN! Other favorites: Stevie Ray Vaughan Albert King Mark Knopfler Jimi Hendrix Grateful Dead Going to see Norah Jones with Gilian Welch tomorrow, then Bruce and the E-Street Band in Sept. (only 20 rows back! )
  18. m00n~ Good to hear your back in business ~shoe

Since they pulled out, now the closest Klipsch is 45 miles away in Falls Church. Some outfit called Sound Images . From thier website, they look like a pretty nice place. May have to make the road trip up there. I'd like to hear some good amps with the Klipsch. I see they have Conrad Johnson, Adcom, Lexicon amongst a few others. I'd like to see what kind of speakers they have. ---------------- skonopa, Sound Images just recently picked up Klipsch. I've been there a few times. In addition to what you listed amp-wise they carry YBA, Quad, Musical Fidelity, and B&K. The one CJ tube they add was sitting on the floor in the back with the used gear. They are not tube fans. Speakerwise again you have Quad, JM-Lab (very nice). They carry some good gear. If you get up this way, roll up to Centreville and stop at "The Gifted Listener". Very nice guy owns the place. He carries Rotel, Linn, Bryston, Mark Levinson, Rega, VTL for source. Primary speakers I recall seeing there were Thiel and REL. Definitely a high end store, but some of it is reasonable. I will, however, pass on the $20k Linn CD player. ~shoe
  20. "Over the weekend I moved from a one bedroom apartment into my new home and with the larger space I am able to now corner load my sub. Previously, I had to jack the volume up to about half inorder to get decent volume. Now that I have it corner loaded I can't get it past 1/4 without threatenting the foundation of my new home." .....why not another RSW-15 for the other lonely corner? ~shoe
  21. All of the RSW subs are good for movies and great for music. I've used all of the RSW's for movies and never had a want for more bass. Having said that the RSW's are not the leaders in terms of ultimate low end extension. 25-30hz is really about as low as they go. Again that's great for music, but if you want seriously low bass at big time levels, you should probably look at SVS and I'd say Velodyne for that. I still think you should try the RSW-12 as you might find the bass to be plenty for you. Just a thought. ~shoe

I took the pair back for an exchange, but for that night I took the back panel off and basically hooked up a spare post that I had. Best idea is probably to let your dealer know and exchange it. ~shoe
  24. m00n~ Sorry to hear that as well. I've never used the connection setup that you have. I run a Y adapter from the sub/pre out instead. If you have no power at all to it that's a real concern. Definitely can relate to not looking forward to packing it up for repair. I skipped the gym today....I spent the morning moving the 15's and 7's around in my room. Keep us posted. ~shoe
