  1. Now he comes into work today and says that they (the Bose) don't sound very loud in his 24'X24' room. Duh!
  2. I work with this guy who wanted to get into surround sound. He asked my advice, because he knows I have good taste. All us Klipsch owners have good tase... right. So, he tells me that he does not want to spend more than $1000. I said that it can be done, but he might want to expand his budget a bit to get a bit nicer system. I was thinking of steering him to one of the newer Referece 6 systems, or something along those lines. He did not want to go with anything used, which ruled out most Reference gear or Heritage. I am talking to this guy today and what is he doing? Installing his new BOSE surround sound system. He spent $2000 on this piece of #1@*! He says to me - "I hope I did the right thing". I didn't have the heart to tell him he should have just given me the $2000, so I could upgrade my RF-3's to RF-7's LOL.
  3. I guess the answer to your question will depend on how much bass and "slam factor" you are looking for. I would say that you would probably be a little disappointed with the Heresy's bass output (possibly less bass than what your KG4's produce). I love my Heresy's however. The Forte's and Chorus are good choices, but the Chorus are quite a bit bigger. Expect to pay $400-600 for Heresy, $600-800 Fortes and $800-$1000 for Chorus.
  4. I will be the first to tell anyone not to pay attention to Consumer Reports, but in this case I may just agree with them. About two years ago my Denon AVR2801 crapped out on me. I was tight on cash at the time and bought this Panny for $249. This thing is an admirable performer for home theater. I would put it up against my Denon (when it worked) any day. It is ok on music, but a little harsh at times. But for $249 I would dare say that most of us in a blind test would be hard pressed to tell the difference between the Panny and a mid priced Denon, Yamaha or H/K. Don't knock it until you've tried it!
  5. I agree with Forte's, and would add... Heresy KG4 Cornwall RF-3's RB-5's
  6. Anybody have a set they are willing to sell. Is Klipsch carrying these again? I doubt it based on older posts that I have searched for. Thanks in advance.
  7. Does anyone have any opinions on Signet cartridges, especially the Type V - At least I think that is what it is called.
  8. Are we sure that she is not the owner of the Jazz Kitchen? I can't think of any other reason why they would actually pay her any money to read "poetry" on stage. LOL!
  9. I would also like to extend thanks to all the Klipsch staff that gave up their Saturday to show us around their awsome facility. You really get a sense that these guys really love what they do. And who wouldn't!!! Please extend our thanks to the United Artists Theater staff as well. I think it was good for my wife to come too, so that she can appreciate that I am not the only audio "nut" in the Northern Hemisphere. Hopefully this trip will ease the blow of any future Klipsch purchases. The THX Ultra system and the Khorns were the highlight products for me. My wife really enjoyed the THX Ultra system as well. It is nice to know that you can buy one piece at a time, or the whole enchilada if funds are favorable. Indyklipschfan - I wish we could have made it to your house, but I really was not in the loop on that one. Please also extend our thanks to the folks at the Jazz Kitchen - The food was really good and the music was good until the poetry lady started up. I feel a little bad that we left so early, but we just could not take her anymore. See you all next year!
  10. I guess I have not noticed the compression, but then again I have only had it on when I was doing things around the house. I will listen more closely this evening. It could be that they have to compress the signal, so as to get that many channels as well as video feed for all the stations that Dish has available right now. I am certainly not an expert on digital comression.
  11. I was watching a DVD the other night and there were previews on it for the Jennifer Garner movie "13 Going on 30". One of the scenes has what looks like and RF-7 in the background. Anyone want to confirm or deny?
  12. Thanks BEC and Gil, It sounds like I am on the right track. Gil, I will try to photographically document my surgery on these tweeters, so that others may benefit. I am just hoping that it is my tweeter that is blown and not something in the crossover. I hope to see you guys in Indy in three weeks. Can't wait.
  13. Two questions: 1. I have seen many posts on the board in regards to replacing diaphrams on a K-77 tweeter. These seem to involve soldering. I took the old, presumably blown, diaphram (from my K-76-K) out tonight and found that there does not seem to be any soldering involved... true? - My new diaphrams arrive tomorrow. 2. Does anyone have any tips as to what I should, or should not do, while replacing the diaphram?
  14. I bought a pair of 88' Heresy II's and the tweeter does not work at all. I assume that it is blown. Is it better and cheaper to go with a new diaphragm, or should I just get the whole tweeter? Should I just order from Klipsch, or get second hand? Please help!
  15. I thought the ending was appropriate. After all, one of the recurring themes thoughout the series was Frazier trying to find the "love of his life". I don't think they should do a spin-off of another spin-off. That's like copying a LP to tape and then copying the tape. It just starts to sound lousy after a while.
  16. The room is booked and we are in! I can't believe my Wife wanted to come! She complains every time I bring new Klipsch to the house. I must be wearing her down. Anybody else bringing their wife?
  17. Does anyone have any Heresy's or HII's they are looking to sell now, or in the near future?
  18. I am going back to my roots and getting back into the Hereitage line, but some of the Heresy's I am looking at have serial #'s that I am unfamiliar with. I thought that all the pre-Heresy II serial #'s had a letter designation the year in which they were made. These I am looking at don't have letters and they are not HII's. Couple of examples: 605597 & 605598 8421111 & 8421112 Who can shed some light for me?
  19. I was told by a Klipsch dealer in 1987 that the 4 ohm rating was a mistake. True, or not, Who knows?
  20. One pair of Cherry RB-3's for sale at $300 + shipping. One prong on the bottom of a grill is broken. Also a few minor scratches on the underneath side only, where they shifted on the stands. Otherwise these are beauties. If anybody has Heresy's that they would like to trade + additional $$, that would be cool too. Please PM me if you are interested. I would rather sell them on this board before having to deal with ebay.
  21. I sold a pair of '82 birch Heresy's several years ago on ebay for $850 plus shipping! Yea, I was surprised too. Back then, there were not very many Klipsch on ebay. I don't know if that had much to do with it or not. Never have had that kind of luck since on ebay.
  22. Kind of boring... 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander 1999 Ford Windstar Kind of fun... Klipsch Reference Series scattered around the house.
  23. Thanks Gil, I will look forward to seeing you there.
  24. I just have a few questions regarding the trip to Indy... 1. Do you have to register, or does everybody just show up? 2. How many people were there last time? 3. How far ahead should I book a room, and also, where does everybody stay? Thanks in advance for your answers.
  25. "Since this area is in my basement, I'll have carpet with pad on a concrete floor, so I'm looking more to have a forward firing sub." I would not worry about the SVS being a down firing design. There is a plate on the bottom, so that the bass energy does not go straight to the carpet. I would dare say that the carpet would not absorb any more bass material with an SVS as it would with any front-firing configuration. Quick question for The Ear... What in the world do you do for a living? I wish I could afford all those goodies. Santa must give you a nice income in the "off season".
