  1. Are you assuming they're K-22 alnico woofers? If so, I really like mine. Of course, I'm only using a 10 watt amp and don't blow the roof off volume-wise.
  2. FYI - they're on Facebook marketplace for $1200: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/439740334908700/

  4. @Zorro0921 -- i'll reply with basically the same info i posted in your other thread. those are heresy I speakers. as noted above, "L" means 1973. the "WR" means walnut raw. those look quite nice -- based on the market in my area, i would pay up to about $700 for them without thinking twice. you can certainly find people asking more than that for them (don't know if they actually get it). the only "issue" is that the badge is missing off the back of the mid-range driver -- probably insignificant. i have '75 heresys -- they sound fabulous with the alnico drivers. to sound their best, they do need to be very close to the wall.

  6. @Bo3b -- welcome to the forum. There are literally dozens of threads about maintaining Heresys here. So dig in and start reading. FYI -- Your Heresys are referred to as a Heresy I, though really their predecessor, the H700, was essentially the same speaker.
  7. it looks like the link is associated with an account (both outlook and hotmail are referenced) and not in a non-password required location.
  8. they're playing as i type! looks like it'll take some time/experimenting to get them dialed in. certainly haven't achieved the fabulous imaging/soundstage that i'm used to with the two rigs in my signature.
  9. seems like it would depend on the size and spacing of the horns. my heresys sound sublime at 8'. with the chorus 1s, 10' is the best i can do in my 10'x15' room and appears to be the minimum needed!
  10. the jc-5 seems like a bit much. with the gain fully turned up, i feel like i'm being assaulted. i've turned the gain down to about 30% and it's much better. @billybob -- i have moved them into the corners with them heavily toed in (almost like klipschorns), crossing well in front of the seating position (which was moved back a couple of feet). balance and texture is much better.
  11. Just to follow up -- I went and saw the Forte IIIs last night. Certainly sounded nice. However, the sides of both speakers were seriously stained/damaged. Definitiely would need some serious work. I decided to pass -- not into that level of refinishing. The person also had some oiled walnut Chorus 1s in excellent condition. So those came home with me! Trying to figure out the best positioning in my 10'x15' room. One thing that is clear is that you need to sit far enough away from the speakers to have everything come together!
  12. do you have any insight on the type of finish on "natural cherry"? if chief bonehead is correct and it's laquer, then a full refinish will probably be necessary.
  13. @Chief bonehead -- sorry to bother you on this one. What is the finish on "natural cherry"? Is it oil-based?
  14. haven't seen the speakers yet, so not exactly sure of the situation. the question is whether i can simply use watco and some steel wool to fix the problem or if it requires more significant effort (i.e. sand and/or strip). asking price is $1500 which doesn't seem too bad if the refinishing effort is on the smaller side.
  15. I've found a pair of Forte IIIs in natural cherry for sale. The problem is that the finish is damaged from water or cleaning chemicals. Picture is attached. How were the Forte III in natural cherry finished? How is best to go about restoring them? Thanks!
  16. @bsacco1 -- i agree with @Dave A. why would you mess with reconing with you can get a new one for so little money? also, i'd definitely take him up on his offer.
  17. .47 ohms is low. as mentioned, look at the scale -- could it be 4.7 ohms? also, do switch the speaker cables from one speaker to the other and see what happens. if that woofer still doesn't work, it's definitely the woofer. if you switch the cables and the other speaker stops working, it's something up stream.
  18. why do you think it is the speakers? it could be your source, your interconnect to your amp, the amp, the speaker cables to the amp, or the speakers. if you have a multi-meter, then the first step would be to disconnect the woofer from the crossover and check the resistance. if you get an open circuit, then it's the woofer. then check the input connections at the crossover -- loosen, then retighten the screws. then switch your speaker cables from one speaker to the other. then try some other speaker cables. then do the same two steps with your interconnects. you should be able to figure out the issue by process of elimination.
  19. Ouch. . . That hurts to look at!
  20. That is spectacular! Looks like the time and effort are paying off!
  21. Yep, very true - two sets of Cornwall 2s are on the market for $1800. One set is in NJ and looks quite nice but that's still a bit rich.
  22. @sberger -- i thought you owned klipschhorns previously. seems like we've had the corner discussion before -- particularly the fact that your window frames are in the way and preventing a good seal. am i delusional?
