  1. Attached is a plan for a University corner horn. It corresponds to a single unit I purchased as a package with a bunch of other gear. I have Googled myself to death trying to find any info about it. I know it's not Klipsch, so please don't flame me - I grasping at straws here to see if anyone might know ANYTHING about these. It was previously used as a center channel, powered by Heathkits from the 299C's center output. I can dig up numbers off the drivers if anybody would know of them. I think the dual tweeters are 4402's. Thanks in advance.
  2. If the dealer can't answer that question, you should buy them from someone who can. (Not me, I have no idea!!)
  3. Wine and Liquor Outlet S. Transit Rd. Lockport, NY 1L of Johnnie Walker Black - usually $29.88 1L of Jameson Irish Whisky - usually $19.88 Life is good.....sip......puff......sip.......

Winter was a full six months this year, and they are calling for snow/rain mix later this week. But seriously, why no DST? Am I just ignorant or isn't that more or less a standard in the US? Or am I REALLY obtuse, and you were kidding?
  6. They could update the time of day. Also make the search function work somehow. I find it hard to believe nobody's ever typed the word Klipschorn around here! I do like the way a topic will jump back to the top when it is replied to. AA doesn't do that. That may be a good thing over there. Things seem to get out of hand easier there.
  7. I forgot-keep signal flow in mind when powering up or down. Many TV's send an ugly and unfriendly POP when they powered up/down. Turn your reciever ON LAST and OFF FIRST. Tell your wife it is mui importante!

Here is my current equipment: Mitsubishi 46809 WideScreen Projection TV Mitsubishi DD-6020 Progressive Scan DVD player Motorola Digital Cable Box I just purchased the following: Denon 2803 AV Surround Receiver Mitsubishi HS-U778 SVHS Player Klipsch Synergy SC-1 Center Speaker Klipsch Synergy SF-1 Fronts Klipsch Synergy SS.5 Rears Klipsch Synergy KSW-10 Sub Woofer ---------------- 1. Connect the output of the Cable box to the input of the VCR. This will bypass the VCR's tuner, so you will have to set it to line in on the tuner-usually just below channel 2.(For best quality use S-Video cable and seperate RCA cables for audio) 2. Connect output of VCR to S-Video in on TV (use similar connections as above for best quality) 3. Connect component video output of DVD into component video input of TV. Set both to progressive scan (Will either be switch on back or in a menu screen) Audio connections will again be seperate RCA type. 4. Connect line level (NOT SPEAKER LEVEL) audio output of TV to any line in on the reciever. This may be variable or fixed, depending on your set. If it is variable, you will be adjusting the output level as you adjust the volume of the TV (including MUTE). I use mine as a fixed level out, so I can turn the TV all the way down and just hear the reciever's sound. This also allows me to use the TV's internal speakers as an easily adjustable center speaker. The drawback to this method is that you can only do Prologic Surround Sound, since the reciever is only being fed a 2-channel audio source. You may be able to remedy this by using an optical or SPDIF digital audio connection from the DVD player to the reciever and switching those via menus when you want to hear 5.1 (most wives don't give rat's arse about 5.1, so she might not need to know how to operate that) Also-you would need to have the TV on in order to pass audio signals to the reciever. ABSOLUTELY use the S-Video connections for the VCR. It makes a WORLD of difference. You payed for it-use it! If you have any ?'s, feel free to PM me. This is not the only way to hook it up, but works well for us.
  9. You know-come to think of it, they have been sourcing quite a bit of brown goods from RCA, so Thompson may have the gig now. Sorry for the waste of bandwidth.
  10. Last I knew (which isn't saying much!), Tandy sourced all its audio from Pioneer. They are like Sears-they don't make anything except money.
  11. HDBR- Thanks for the good advice! I'm a bit more of a lurker than a poster due to my work environment, but have always found your posts to be authoritative and helpful. Carnuaba may be expensive, but why skimp on Klipschorns? Thanks again. Ben
  12. Thanks for the advice, guys. Murphy's Oil Soap it is. The condition of my Khorns is a double edged sword. There are a few nicks, but that's because of how they came to be mine (affordable) in the first place. They were my boss' dad's for years. They were being transported in our company box van to storage to await sale along with an old (as yet unidentified) University corner horn, HH Scott 299C, AR-XA, Sansui tape deck, and Dual CS1258. Well, some underinsured 19 year old slammed head on into our 10,000 lb truck, bending the frame and pushing it into the next lane. Long story short, I got all the audio stuff for an insurance buyout of $1350. The only damage was a chipped peice of veneer and some minor nicks on the Khorns, and some damge to one tailboard. The real shame was a 7 foot tall fiberglass Nipper RCA dog-one of only 6-7 made-completely shot. RCA offered Bill $6500 for it in the 70's. It used to sit on the roof of the RCA distributor in Buffalo. The kicker to the whole (long) story is that the kid had $10,000 liability. He was in the risk pool, and his policy hadn't even been assigned to a company yet. That didn't even cover the truck! I think he's driving a Schwinn now.

Anybody else out there have any rec's for lacquer finish maintenance? There are also a couple small areas that have nicks through the lacquer. Any suggestions for repairing these?
  14. Although your question seems to be answered, I thought I'd chime in. I DESPISE auto-on features on anything! I've had the same issue with every sub I've seen. Just cruising along watching TV, all of sudden...POP on goes the sub.
  15. Also- a lot of times 'motes are just filthy inside. (carefully)Pry it open and clean it with rubbing alcohol. Usually clears up any intermittent/sketchy buttons. Either that or play some Zamfir for it-it might just be tense!
  16. HDBR- Sorry to butt in on a thread, but I've got a pair of original condition KB-WL. For regular cleaning and maintenance, are you saying I shouldn't use lemon oil at all? I almost oiled them LAST NIGHT as I was on a furniture oiling frenzy anyway. What should I use if not lemon oil? Thanks in advance!
  17. I like both kinds of music..... Country AND Western
  18. I need a muffaletta from the Progress!! mmmmmm...... muffaletta
  19. Nice try. I guess the WWW is not as anonymous as one might think. Thanks for the heads up. Keep in mind, audiocrazy1, that there are more ethical ways to make a dishonest living than just plain ripping people off.
  20. To be clear- Fletcher-Munson curves don't really have anything to with speakers, but have everything to do with our ears. They depict our hearing system's non-linear sensitivity. We are much more sensitive to midrange frequencies at low levels than high and low frequencies at those levels, regardless of the speakers. At higher SPLs our sensitivity is more linear (frequency-wise). I'm sure many of you in this thread DID know this, but for the confused lurking out there, I thought pointing it out might be helpful. Incidently, it's my opinion that these peculiarities are evolutionarily designed. It benefited our survival rates to have this varied sensitivity. The most sensitive range of our auditory response is that of frequencies related to speech and critters moving around in the woods, enabling us to more easily communicate and hunt.............but I digress
  21. It's pretty common for tape decks to be out of aligment, hence the level discrepency. Have the deck aligned if it's worth it to you, then NEVER use any auto reverse functions. Misalignment also can cause phasey/imaging anomalies.
  22. Thanks for making these papers available to all of us. Just goes to show the difference in class around here as compared to some other BBs.
  23. Quick question-probably an easy one for many of you. I have a nice pair of K-horns that I'm just beginning to enjoy on my newly restored Scott 299C (thanks Ryan-sounds great-I'll email you). Anyway, I have two questions. 1) Model # KB-WL S/N 8P211 , 8P210 I think this means walnut lacquer finish, can anybody give me a build date on this sweethearts? I can give more numbers if there is more to be found. 2) I understand some people use the 4 ohm tap, some use the 8 ohm tap on the outputs-any subjective preferences out there?
  24. Right on!! I did qualify my statement, though! No offense meant, and none taken here!
  25. Hey triode pete- Relax man! If you read my post, you'd see I wasn't critical of any NYers except the guys who screwed up the deal on the power project for us WNYers years ago. I may have had my facts a little wrong about exactly where the juice goes from here, but my point was that it does go elsewhere. BTW it's spelled Niagara-maybe you've had a little too much Viagra on the brain. Also-don't be so overly proud of yourselves downstate. "Real" NYers are really all over the state-and the mid-south for that matter. You're right about NiMo though.
