  1. I don't own them, but I think they are basically La Scala components in a prettier cabinet. 15 woofer in folded horn, with mid and high horn in top part of cabinet. Nice, fairly cubic cabinet with good-looking grilles. Mr. Klipsch designed these for use as a center channel with K-horns as L/R mains. But they would be a beautiful set of L/R mains or as part of a HT theatre system. Others here would be more descriptive, just wanted to get you started. Probably worth about $1000 pair in good operational and cabinet shape IMO.
  2. ah, thanks for the clarification and welcome to the Forum. I used to install pa's in discos and stripper clubs and am very familiar with the, uh, shall we say 'atmosphere' that these La Scalas will be in. The LaScala's should serve your local pub well. just keep em out of peoples reach. Although the woofer is 'hidden' inside, liquids should not be allowed to sit on or in the cabinet for fear of rattling off, damaging the customers, speaker, or the beer itself. I recommend wall mounting on a VERY well mounted ledger board (2x6 bolted to wall) with at least 2, preferably 3 chains from top to ceiling or same back wall, securely bolted to wall studs, not drywall. For amp, if it's running continuously, you may want to go with a pa type power amp. A consumer brand receiver may not hold up to the continuous use and bar smoke it is likely to encounter. You do probably want to get an amp with 200-250 watts power for loud bar music. It's not the continuous power that kills speakers, its peaks played with distorted power cause the amp was TOO SMALL. You're better off with a little power to spare. Yes look for RMS ratings. keep writing if ya need more tips, we're here for ya
  3. "Several data points later (hic), and after multiple trips to the restroom, I concluded that this pilsner glass lived up to every bit of the Klipsch hype - which is none. One can be assured that no matter what side of the glass you drink from, you will always get beer. The design allows even girlie-man size hands to comfortably hold it. It will get cold when frozen, it will hold 12 ounces, and it doesn't leak. I'm really not sure how much more one could ask of a pilsner glass" I bout fell out of my office chair when I read this- "you will always get beer" WAY TOO MUCH. Very well written, are you sure you weren't part of the Audio Magazine Lirpa team way back when? "Fridge wasn't calibrated" hilarious man! I do believe from E270 statistics class that all data sampling must include a minimum of n >= 30, which means that you must sample AT LEAST 30 data points for your statistical sampling to be valid. Try again.
  4. Sorry Indy, checked out the video- points for banging on the coustic, but -10 for originality. Atfirst I was gonna say he sounds like ex-Dixie Dregs Steve Morse, who is now with Deep Purple. On the 'Live Abandon Australia 99' double CD (and subsequent American Tour which I saw) Steve did this EXACT solo, interspersing fingerboard tapping with snippets from Jimi, Pagey, VH, Kinks, etc super guitarists to show off his multi talented 6-string prowess. I believe it's on disc 2 intro to Smoke on the Water and it's about two minutes long. So Michael didn't come up with this. I'll play it for ya next time you come over. But congrats on gettin on stage with those golden pipes of yours at Birdy's Bloomington- sure THAT was a good time. yer bud, Michael
  5. just lean to the right about 90 degrees and it looks about right. Looks like screen capture from TV though, not the high quality of colter avatars!! wwoooohhhooooo I got a million of em for you guys!
  6. so Wheelman, are you saying I should go out today and buy Govt' Mule Deepest End CD?? Are you sure? thanks for the email buddy, going to Tracks today!
  7. So with the gentle smoothness of a silk dome tweeter I ease out of the chair and place junior on the settee without disturbing her and then flip the vinyl. Listen up fellow Klipschters- here is a man who just found NIRVANA! very well spoken Sir! I bid you more pleasant evenings such as the one you describe! Michael
  8. Thanks, I did some Ebay reading and came across that info. So the 'auctionsnipe' is just an automated way to get your bid in at the last second. Lets presume a majority of serious bidders do this, then it's not so much an active bidding process as who values the item the highest, absent the info about who else is interested in whatever price. Makes it kind of tough to get any deal, doesn't it? Any rate, what would be a fair price to get this pair of beat up heresies? The good new is that I got my Corns for $300 a pair, the bad news is that I got my Corns for $300 a pair, now I compare everything to that deal! Thanks, Michael
  9. E-bay, looks like the other bidder on this pair of beat up heresies has the snipe working for him. I've bid twice this morning (each time the minimum increment) and immediately I am outbid by an equal amount. So let's say I get a snipe also, are snipes go at each other until one buyer's max is reached at which point the other guy wins. So the GAME is to assign my top price to these speakers, then pick some weird incremental number just above the weird incremental number the other guy picks. Right?? Help me out, unless BOOMAC comes through with his beaters, I'll lose out again, I know its a game of patience, getting a deal on the right speakers, just tired of losing all the time. Thanks, Michael
  10. okay gang, I've got a line on two totally beat up heresies on eBay. And the sellers here in Indianapolis. Anybody know this guy? labyrinthofquality http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5718303531&ssPageName=ADME:B:BN:US:1Bidding now at $150. I sent an email to him (citing our common city and lack of shipping, which he is picking up) and did place one bid (minimum increment) to get his attention, which immediately got outbid by da other guy. How do I stay in the running- this AUCTION SNIPE thing? What does it do, come in at the last minute and shuffle $$ until you reach your 'high' point? How does one determine one's high bid, when you want to get a DEAL! I mean, these are black heresies with holes drilled, probably for mounting in a club, so they ran all the time, woofers are blown, which can be fixed. What are they worth? I'd just like to win ONE bid for a change. Thanks.
  11. Sheltie, after seeing Liam's photo in the group shot, I'm just about on the floor imaginging the little guy scaling that preposterous pile of rubble and proceeding to demolish it entirely ! yer killing me! As for the 'sculpture'- rubbish, looks like overgrown tinkertoys, talk about form over function!
  12. another good paint choice would be Porter Glyp-tec, which is a very hard slow-curing oil based enamel. It is what I have used on several home to paint kitchen cabinets. I have also made home entertainment centers for a few friends. The paint fills in brush strokes exceptionally well. You must wait a couple days between coats and it takes about 30 days for the final sheen to set in. Eggshell looks great, although is will look glossy for the first few days. Virtually chip resistant. I'm debating on whether to reveneer or just paint my totally beat Cornwalls, they have lots of veneer chips and were subjected to a house fire. Painting would sure be easier, but I like the challenge and beauty of fine wood veneers also.
  13. nix the piezo tweeter idea. No power handling, won't match xover, only used in cheap pa look-alikes. Not a serious contender. YOU SHOULD NOT NEED bigger woofers. If you're playing Cornwalls at that top of volume, may I suggest a double stack of INdustrial LaScalas with about 500 WPC bi-amped of course, that should do the trick. Or are you like Ozzie, who has listened to thirty billion decibels for thirty years?
  14. The b-ball player next to Klipsch speakers seem a little like backwards marketing. After all, if you want the speakers to look big, why put some lanky dude who's about 8 feet 11 next to them. What we need is Billy Keller (Pacers guard from 70's, about 5 feet 11 in shoes) Now the Klipsch would TOWER next to him. Better yet, get Derby Jockeys to pose next to the MCM towers- now there is a sense of perspective!
  15. "Steamer?! You said I was one of your forum favorites... but I didn't think you meant as dinner! BTW- the new one was too crabby..." Do I detect... SENSE OF HUMOR... I believe our man is making a comeback. Bet he eyes some PYT (pretty young thing) tonight during class. Grades will plummet this quarter. LOL Are these avatars getting detailed enough for you geezers with the bad eyesight?
  16. Thanks, guys, just the response I was looking for. I do have several of the lo-hi imp matching transformers. So I should go from receiver (hi) xform to lo for long run, then back to (hi) for input to other receiver, right? Is their any reason to use XLR connectors throughout or just to maintain the integrity of the balanced portion (lo imp) of the run? Do many of you solder your own interconnects? I have done plenty of it in my day and not opposed if it is truly better and will save quite a bit of bucks. What type of RCA do you use Meunge? RS? Is it a metal shell that threads on after you solder the leads? Do you have # of the cable you use and $/100 foot roll and/or supplier? Thanks. Also, does anybody know of supplier of dual banana plugs other than Radio Shack or MCM electronics at $2.49 a pop. I'm redoing two complete HT setups and would like to use them throughout. I know lots of Klipsch wont take standard dual, so do you guys use single bananas, or just solder wire leads together and use binding post? Thanks Michael
  17. you guys are KILLING me. Did ya hear that they found the cause of that building fire in Louisville? Two guys in basement trying to weld 2x4's together. We do some stupid S#it, wonder we live as long as we do.
  18. oh, this avatar game of mine is seriously messing with you guys! Just highlighting my work. Actually they have all been different models or clients, I think I have posted 4 so far. No there will be no sharing of the images in any other form, sorry, I have a reputation to consider. Michael (who has the fun job now!?!?!?)
  19. Ok, in the past year I've heard plenty about speaker cable thought and recently the AC power line debate. I'm about to re-hook up three systems in my new house and have a question about the interconnections between components, generally the RCA variety. Is there a massive difference in cable technologies, gold plated ends, etc.? I realize that the goal is to keep these lines as point-to-point as possible. Is the longest reasonable length about 20' as I have been told in the past. This seems about right, since in PA use Hi-imp mic cables (equiv to RCA interconnects) could be used to only about 20-25 feet, then you'd want to switch to XLR lo-imp lines and transformers. If, in my home, I wish to run a line level from one component stack to another somewhat distant stack (say 75-100 feet total line), what type of cable and/or transformers should be used? In the world of projection TV (I have a Canon 7105) I know that the order best -> worst is VGA (DIN15) about the same as 3xRCA component, then S-vid, then single RCA is worst. But what should I use when faced with non-progressive DVD with optical, L/R RCA, 5.1 RCA's or S-vid, going into a modern (yamaha RSV2400) Dolby Digital receiver? Way too many choices, and I would like to route the video signal for switching purposes. I realize its a wordy multi-part question, but I could either hook up using decade old RCA rat-shack type cables, upgrade to new but standard lines, or go full boat for the best. (ps, I don't believe in monster cables, have some 'Esoteric' brand speaker wire from Ovation where the wire has horrible green oxide under sheilding, no matter where you cut it. I just use good 14 ga zip for speakers) Thanks, Michael
  20. resistance may also be futile, but I checked the scifi reference today and the direct quote from Douglas Adams Hitchikers Guide to Universe is "RESISTANCE IS USELESS" uttered in contempt by guard of Vogon Destructor Fleet as he is about to eject our heroes Ford Prefect and Arthur Dent into the vacuum of space. 'Yellow' he thought Michael he he
  21. I like your last option the best, leaving the speaker cabinets on top of your entertainment cabinet (assuming it's not so high that there is a falling object danger) and tilting them forward. (maybe a strap attached to speaker back and rear of entertainment cab would prevent falls) All you have to do is feel the outside of a cabinet at moderate volume to realize that there is some vibration there. The designer intended for this to go into free air. If you trap it in any size box, there is going to a 'boominess' that you will despise. Before you build the whole shelf unit, piece together a sample of approximately the size your speaker shelf will be, insert speaker, turn it on and see how it sounds. My guess is that there will be a 'tubbiness' that can't be ignored, especially with the rear ports. If you can ELIMINATE the back where the speaker is installed (ie make the opening a very close fit, yet allow the bass port complete room to breath to the rear of the cabinet, might be your best chance for a custom built in look. I did something similar with some of my brother's speakers years ago and it turned out alright. Built another bro's speakers into a wall unit with closed back- instant 'tub' bass. Let em breath! best wishes.
  22. Bond-classified, it's not James Bond themes by any chance, is it. Are the 4 lasses those foxy classical string players???? Thanks for info or directions to previous thread.
  23. sorry check out http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=50597&item=5718017191&rd=1#ebayphotohosting for 2 woofers
