  1. Does your reciever have rca preamp outputs. I have been considering doing this to because of my move to a apartment soon. I believe with a couple of radio shack adapters it would be pretty easy to do. The only thing is that I would think that you would have to use the receiver to power a center channel.
  2. I just wanted to see if anyone was still or at all interested. I don't know how the heck to ship these or they would be going on ebay. And most people in my area have no idea what Klipsch speaker's are. Thanks Again
  3. Hello it has been a great long while since I have posted or payed everybody a visit. I am currently going thru a divorce and need to sell off my Klipsch's to pay bills. [:'(] I have a pair of HWO Heresy II's with the cane grills. The cabinets are in what I would have to say are great shape with a couple of minor flaws "I kept these out the kids reach". They don't have the risers and I oil them about once a year. I am asking a firm $400 for these because of the condition and the grills. The other pair is a black pair of KLF 20's that have some dings in the cabinets. The grills also have a couple of tears in them but from a distance of about 5 feet they look pretty nice. I have epoxied the one cabinet so that it does not rattle. We all know about the glue issues these had. You can't tell it was ever apart. The other cabinet may be a in need of it to but it was not near as bad as the other. I am asking $600 for these and may give on the price. I am located near Cedar Rapids IA. I can take some pics if any one shows interest. OH and I will not ship these and that is the reason they are not on Ebay. If anyone is also interested I have a pair of KSF 8.5's they have seen some kid wear to them. I also have a KSF C5 center channel if you are interested in these we can figure out a price. What would be the best way to store these if I can't sell them. They just won't fit into the one bedroom I am relocating to. PM me if interested and thanks for reading.
  4. My Yamaha dvd player has that option. But this definately has a burnt out bulb. But that was my first thing I checked. I thought my kids had made it shut off some how. The only time I think it dims is if you put it on sleep.
  5. I have a Yamaha RX-V870 and the display went out. It still worked otherwise so I looked to see if it was something simple. I found they used a little light bulb. I thought hey great easy fix I've seen these at good ol Radio Shack. Well I found the wattage rating etc and they did'nt match. I did find a website that carried it but said it was discontinued. So my question is how could I convert this to LED lighting. I tried a white led with the orange cover the light bulb had on it. But it was still white and did'nt light the display well. I would like to just use one and be done with it. But I have no idea really were to start. I thought it would be neat to change the display to blue instead of orange kinda like marantz. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Or just maybe a place to get the bulb cheap.
  6. My brother and I took the rear of one of my klf 20's off with a little tapping and careful use of a heat gun. They missed 90% of the back when they glued mine with some sort of cheap hot glue. We also took the front off the same way. It was literally ready to fall right out. I still have no idea what was holding it. The key is to be very careful. The cabinets are very sturdy with the front and the back off. We used epoxy and carefully applied it to both the cabinet and the back. It took a day before I could test it. But it was well worth it. Just take your time is the best thing I can say. You can't see the glue on mine. We concluded liquid nails would be messy and not very effective it took approx 2 tubes of epoxy. I still need to get him back to help with the other one.
  7. Yes it was a used unit. I did'nt think Kenwood had anything that cost over $300.00 either. I was shocked to find out that the remote was going to cost as much as 99% of there product line. I did'nt pay much for it so I can wait until I find something that will work as it has alot of potential for a beater.
  8. My personal experience is they sound tinny. This is my main reason I don't like the new synery speakers. They are very bright and can sound harsh. I have heard other speakers that have the 20+k range before the synery's even came out and had drawn the same conclusion. You are inducing a very high frequency noise or vibration into the mix. My very limited education theory is that the vibration of the diaphragm at the higher frequencies starts to have a adverse effect on the lower ones. Causing breakup on the diaphragm itself. Kinda hard to explain but I'm sure this will really spark some replies. I really think if you are trying to get rid of dogs or bats in the neighborhood then its a good idea.
  9. I found what I thought was a good deal on a Kenwood VR-3090 receiver. It came with a remote and I thought it would be a decent everyday home theater reciever. Upon getting it home I found out the remote was for a different model. The actual remote is in the $300 plus dollar range. Is it possible to get a palm pilot based remote control to work with this receiver. I noticed that everything is pretty much interactive on the original remote. All the surround functions, speaker setup, etc. all on the remote screen not the receiver I would like a cheaper alternative if possible. I might just end up selling it if I have to spend $300 for a remote that my kids will trash in 3 seconds. Help this will be my first dolby digital receiver so I am a bit excited.
  10. The last guy said it exactly how it is. I worked for what was RPS when I was in college loading and unloading trailers. The goal is numbers and because if they have to pay some poor college kid the extra $7.50/hr for him to take a extra hour to pack that truck that is totally unacceptable. The way it was explained to me at the time was we can only have so many people to load a truck. Corp. will only alot for this many people for this amount of work. I used to load two-three full semi trailers a night with somewhere around 2500-3000 packages or so by myself. What did this teach me to pack everything to with stand a 5 foot hard fall at the very least. Or the force of another package falling on it because the load shifted. There were some poorly packed trailers and usually if it was a partial trailer alot of the stuff in the back was damaged. I have shipped alot of stuff and never once have had a complaint I shipped a pair of speakers the guy said was over packed. But he got them 100% intact. I have gotten poorly packed stuff from ebayers also. I think people need to think before they assume that it will be fine just thrown in a box with a few wraps of bubble wrap.
  11. Well my cd player is not on the speaker like someone suggested. I think the oversampling makes alot of sense. I had yamaha changers in the past that never missed a beat and you could beat on them all day. I have hardwood floors so I don't have spikes. We used some epoxy after totally removing both sides of the enclosure. It was'nt to hard since the front was about ready to fall off. The back was'nt to hard behind. I think the cheap hot glue that was not even close to the joint was the big problem. Now to get the other one fixed. This weekend I might have some more time to mess with it so I'll see what stops the skipping.
  12. I will have to try some of your suggestions. I think the vibrapod was kinda something I have seen before but did'nt know the name. I do agree the KLF's really have some hard to beat slam to them. I thought my brothers Cornwalls made the earth move. I had them turned up this weekend while the wife was outside with the rugrats. She said that the neighbor across the street made a comment. Now I know how to get back at him for his crappy car stereo and his shade tree motor repair. He just hates the type of music I play. So once I get the skip figured out good times will be had. Just kidding
  13. Opps got crazy with the mouse sorry about the dual post.
  14. It is a Nad model 5355. I have it on top of my dressor as this my bedroom sytem . It would've fallen off the speaker along time ago especially getting crazy with the Lil John music LOL. Any how I think the laser etc is clean it plays fine otherwise except when it gets about half volume on the receiver then the whole house is shaking and it starts to miss a beat or two then three. Where would you find this pad you we talking about to put on top of the cd player if I read that right. So this in theory would be like the perverbail blast shield for it. I never thought of putting something on the top. As this thing weights like 10 pounds and is build like a small tank.

  16. I build a sub box for my truck. I used some grey silicone. It was the kind that came in a caulking tube. In order to fill the gaps inside the cabinet which was to say the least a bit odd shaped. I bought some vinyl clear tubing from the same place. It was big enough to fit over the end of the tube. I used this to get inside the box and seal it up. It can be a bit messy take some gloves to smooth it and make it look pretty. The end result was worth it. You can't see in on the outside and if you need to paint it you have no worries. I would use some good wood putty to fill the gaps on the outside. Are you going to veneer over the top?
  17. My brother came up last weekend and we finally got the back and front reglued on my KLF 20's. The build quality of these amazed us nothing like the old Heritage stuff. As in hot glue to hold the cheap cardboard wood together. Any how my question is when I crank these up they are so powerful they make my cd player skip like crazy. I have it sitting on some 1" acoustic insulation foam stuff. That helped but it still skips. Oh it is a older Nad single disc player. The Klf's are great but geez I can't figure out how to make the player stop skipping at high volume levels. I remember seeing some feet in Parts Express a few years ago that were like isolation feet or something, but they don't carry them anymore. Any ideas? Besides levitating it I'm lost.
  18. Yeah you are right about the peanuts part. I have a NAD cd player that I bought at a garage sale for a whopping $1.00. The problem it needed a new belt. I got the belt for free after the place I work threw out a vcr. What luck. I also bought a NAD nd changer for a whopping $5.00 at a pawn shop. The problem needed the spindle speed adjusted. 5 minutes and it works great. Now the Marantz was a thrift shop $10.00 piece. So the peanuts part is right. Yeah I agree the term I was looking for was more analog. The stuff now and days is so digital and processed. I am not to fond of the whole digital revolution.
  19. I have a question about cd players and I'm sure this will stir some debate. I have some old school NAD Cd Players and recently a Marantz in my line up. I also have had some very good Yamaha changers over the years and also a Sony. The question is why are the Cd Players that are from the 80's era better sounding. You would think that the newer ones would have a much smoother sound. Is it because the new ones have tried to shrink everything to the point of sacrificed sound quality. Or is it all in the profit margin. The chassis is alot heavier on the older ones and to get the build quality of a older one you have to spend a arm and a leg. Is this all just me or is there something to this.
  20. I found a 1988 Marantz cd-430 cd player yesterday at the local Goodwill store. To my surprise it also came with the remote and was only the whopping price of $10.38. The thing is immaculate but I can't get the remote to work. I saw on the back it has a little headphone type jack that is marked remote. Is this specifically for just a Marantz system. I know Pioneer had something that you had to have a Pioneer receiver to make it work. Was Marantz the same way. Or is is for a ir emitter. I just want to make sure before I go plugging anything into it. The thing sure beats the Optimus it replaced.
  21. I think I would trade the wife before I'd trade my Heresy's. Forcing Bose on me would be the last straw. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=47094&item=7307474600&rd=1
  22. Hey I thought I'd give you guys a neat tip. It has resulted in me getting two progressive scan dvd player's for about $5.00 each. I was in the local pawn shop and they had the as is table. I thought I'll take my chance on this and bought a dvd player awhile back that said on it no video. I took it home hooked it up pushed the progressove scan buttom on the front and tada. Cheap dvd player. The one I scored tonight is a nice Toshiba I took it home hooked up one of the rgb outputs to the video input on the tv and looked through the menu guessed a bit. I found the on off for the progressive scan and put it to off and tada another dvd player. The thing works great. So if you guys find progressive scan dvd players at yard sales etc. you might get a great deal. They work fine but the person claims no video. I have a dvd player in every room LOL.
  23. I looked at the cane grills on my Heresy II's. And he is right it is not the same type. It is very close but the vertical strips are skinny on the Klipsch and the Horizontal strips are wide like these have. But I had to look pretty close to see this but if your going for original then this is not it.
  24. My opinion is look for something cheap. My experience was I bought a $1000 Yamaha dvd changer a few years ago. Top of the line at the time. It worked good but it was very slow loading etc. When it played discs it would jump chapters etc. Something about certian dvd copyright is what I was told. About 2 years ago I bought cheap Apex dvd player. It plays everything I throw at it and has survived a million episodes of the Bug's Life dvd. The picture quality quite honestly is not much different and the audio is close. I also a got a cheap Panasonic dvd player for my bedroom and it to out performs the Yamaha. I remember reading on the Decware website where he took a Pioneer cheap dvd player and just upgraded the audio section because the transport was so good. But I must say if ya go to wally world and thump some of the new ones on the top they resonant badly but if ya throw some dynamat on it you may have a heck of a dvd player. Remember if you go to sell it in a few years you will not get no investment back.
  25. I finally got around to checking out my KLF 20's I bought a few months back. I originally thought that they just needed reglued. After removing the Zing Zang anti rattle kit someone installed I proceded to take out the tweeter. Well I found that the foam inside has had a little mouse living in it and he torn all the foam up. I was wondering if the egg crate foam that Parts Express sells would be just as good. Or should I go a step better and get the sonic barrier stuff they have. Another question how thick was that stuff suppose to be. Well I investigated further and also found the gold terminals are starting to turn green. What are good quality replacements. All the drivers survided the mouse untouched. The feet on the bottom also leave something to be desired. I have hardwood floors and half of the parts are missing on them. I luv these and would like to just improve them a little bit if I'm going to have them apart. I'm on a budget so let's here some suggestions.
