  1. I'm v. interested. I sent you an email. Look forward to hearing back. Rob
  2. I tried a PM, but no response. Are they available? Rob email: rl19477@yahoo.com
  3. I used to work in the DSP (digital signal processing) field. A digital, low amplitude (ie preamp level) crossover would be easy but expensive to do. While at it, adding time shift to compensate for a Klipschorn's bass horn time delay would be easy to add. Throw in a tri-amp to drive the the 'horns 3 drivers & you'd have quite a system. Whether the improvement it would bring is worth the expense is another question. Rob
  4. First, not a mindless observation at all. Second, like many Forum members, apparently your ear is v. sensitive to changes. Third, I suggest you give the new set up more time. Long time ago I sold speakers as a part-time job and found that most often listeners liked best whatever sounded similar to what they already owned (including Bose junk). The ear/mind seems to appreciate familiarity first. You may grow to like the 4.5 over the 3.5 after some time. Small model no. change, but different woofers, efficiency, horn (exp. vs. tractix), crossover point, and maybe more. A lot of change there. BTW, if you haven't already, re-calibrate sound levels across the system to compensate for the efficiency change. Let us know how they sound after more listening. Perhaps for that room the 4.5's have to go, or they may end up as the new fronts too. Rob
  5. The screen idea is excellent. Works in many ways. The box around the Fortes is not a good bet. I'd pursue a speaker change: for example, use Chorus with their front ported design. Good luck with the project. Rob

Looking at the spec's and materials used they should match pretty well, (at least i hope so) . Anyone here listend to the klf c7? How does it sound? and can anyone tell me if its similar to the kv -4 , I rep at klipsch said it should be real close, any feedback is appreciated, thx SR ---------------- I have a KLF-C7 as my center in a HT setup. Sounds great. I can't compare it to a KV-4, which I only heard once briefly at the then local Klipsch dealer. The -C7 is a keeper. Enjoy it. Rob

It has a built in protection feature which shut itself off. I felt it and it was too hot to keep your hand on it. I turned it completely off and when it cooled back down too a normal warm, and turned it back on and it is running again with a large fan blowing on it. It has no internal fans. Can you suggest a source for this sudden heat? Is something about to fail and this is a precursor? The sound is still terrific. ---------------- I suggest you shut it down and have it looked at. Excessive heat often arises from the output section over-conducting. This often occurs from a problem in the driver circuit, or something in the output bias. Either of those are usually easy & fairly cheap to repair. If it is over-conducting, it often leads to the outputs failing, and sometimes taking the power supply too. Now that will be an expensive repair. Perhaps someone on this forum can suggest a good place for repairs. Rob

In the mean-time this thing is smelling up the house. It has a very distinct, what I would call and old musty electrical smell. I can't describe it any better than that. I is definatley an electronic smell - but it is only one of them. The other, with good woofer does not seem to emit this smell, like the other one. Could it be something in the network, or am I just nuts? ---------------- It could be something in the network. Chokes, which look a lot like a transformer, are in the network. They can emit a strong, bad smell. I suggest you remove the entire network board & move it to another room. See if the smell goes with it. I would label each lead to & from the network board before removal. When you reconnect the board, re-attach the leads exactly as they were. Rob

Is it the horn or the woofer, etc? ---------------- If there is a weak link, it is the horn. A horn's cutoff frquency varies with the horn length and mouth area. To get a lower cutoff frequency would require a longer length & a bigger mouth. That is, the box would have to be bigger. Much, much bigger to get a fairly small improvement. I say enjoy them as they are: Fantastic. Rob
  10. I'm looking too, around Phila, PA. I also asked the Chicago Audiogon for shipping, but no luck. Rob

Any amp-speaker connection is a coupled system, where maximum efficiency (ie power transfer) occurs where the impedence of the driving system (amp) matches the impedence of the driven system (speaker). Since Heresy are an 8 ohm system, match it with your 8 ohm tap. 3) 8. See 2) for details. Rob
  12. I suggest you disconnect all the inputs to the preamp (phono, CD, etc.), and disconnect any thing plugged into the preamp's AC outlets (if applicable) and connect the preamp to the pwr amp. If the hum persists (after all the already suggested plug reversing), it is almost certainly a fault in the preamp. Then time to get the preamp checked out.
  13. Hi. Both are out on my 15. Can you spare three (I'm not completely stupid, just thinking of a spare)? Let me know how much. Thanks. Rob
  14. I'm looking for some also. I'm near Phila., PA. Where are you?
