  1. Binocs: Celestron 9x63, 10x50,& Deluxe 20x 80 (Universal Astronomics Deluxe Unimount) 2" eyepieces: Televue Nagler 9mm, 12mm, 17mm, 22mm, & 31mm (Numerous Celestron) Scope: Modded C8 Deluxe SSH
  2. Craig, No doubt, you can answer your own question-Yes. I'm just surprised that the difference is so audible. I'm not sure how much the new cans have to do with it, but it's much improved. You'd had to have heard it before to discern, but it's obvious to me. On the backplate- A three-sided would be more rigid with a top & back plate that is one piece. SSH
  3. Craig, Looks sweet. Interesting options. Rick's suggestion was a good one about the backplate. I think Ryan's about the chrome was, too. Not getting much fresh air these days, huh? BTW, you were absolutely right about the improvement of the 299A with the transformer replaced. It's good to have it home. SSH
  4. Is this a 7.1, with the back speakers used as rear centers? If so, your RS35s should be on a plane with your ears, not several feet in front of you. SSH
  5. dkp, Which Chicago? minn_male, Jazz at the Pawnshop SSH
  6. Erik, I think it was "a sIngle leaf falls- lonliness", or something like that. SSh
  7. Kelly, Thanks for sharing the pics & info. I've been very curious about the PP project, & am glad to see that working on his dissertation hasn't excluded the important things in life. Beautiful work, Jeff. When do we get a review? SSH
  8. Kelly I paid JAC's asking price-about $400, I think. It was a little like buying Jeff's monoblocks; I didn't even think to bargain. I had too much respect for what I was buying to even want to bargain. I was happy to be getting what I thought was the best of a kind. To me, that's a good deal. I believe I got a great value. SSH
  9. Kelly, With the AVVT 2A3 tubes, I'm still awed by these amps. Rock, jazz, blues & some classical are my steady diet. I listen to my 299A,& Marantz for multi-channel SACD daily, too. The detail of the Dionysus monoblocks is jawdroppingly descriminating. Jeff advised me of the AVVT, & told me that they would take the amps to another level. It was a lot like getting Nagler lenses for my Celestron C8 telescope. For the first time, I clearly saw the shadows of the craters on the moon. Music is palpable through these amps. Jeff knew when he put them up for sale he'd be kicking himself. I hope his PP project turns out even better. SSH
  10. I remember 1A, & was 6 weeks into basic when the first lottery guys came in. Longer hair meant you'd been in basic longer, until they started. Their hair was longer than ours & it really ticked us off. Hair was an issue then, whether you had it or not. 2A3 is such a better number. SSH
  11. clue, Looks like designer wire. That would look fabulous with turquoise anti-vibration pads. SSH
  12. No doubt, get a pr of LaS. They are plentiful & reasonably priced used.I recently bought a second pr for $800. Greg can fix you up with a nicely finished pr for less than you'd spend for the same quality finish. Many of us also opt for the ALK crossovers, which he posted that he can install for you. I'd at least give him a call & check out the possibilities. Welcome to the forum. SSH
  13. Unfortunately, neo, I'm digitally impaired. I've wanted Jeff to see a picture of them in another loving home, and to see the minor improvement from a Navaho mark. I just haven't had the technology to comply with my wishes. They are zebra striped, & have AVVT 2A3 tubes. SSH
  14. If you have room under the TV, get the LaScala. It's one of the best improvements I've made. SSH
  15. neo, "for",neo. Dionysus is what Jeff named his 2A3 monoblocks that I bought from him. I don't attempt to keep out gods, but as much as I hate thugs, I don't wish for one to meet my best friend in our home. SSH
  16. Jeff, Are you telling me that you didn't lock the doors for Dionysus? I do, & my 110 lb solid black German Sheppherd is in the house. SSH
  17. Dean, At least_ three in the car. Cover all the angles. Concealed carry is a blessing, but a visible empty holster probably kept me from getting shot late one night. SSH
  18. Russ, Thanks for the input. I hadn't thought of doing line level. I prefer to switch at speaker level. SSH
  19. minn_male Three prs in, one pr out. Exactly. Can you give me a source for one that will work? SSH
  20. Like some others, I have grown tired of plugging & unplugging speaker cables into several different amps. The switch boxes I have found have small wire size limitations & no RCA plugs. Does anyone know of a source for a single pole, triple throw switch that I could use to build my own 3 source, 1 speaker pr outlet box with RCA connections? SSH
  21. Dean, I was told $1800/pr in an email from a Klipsch guy who was working on that upgrade. He sold me the ALKs he took out of a pr in order to install the upgrade. Dee, That's the ALKs that are going in the LaS I got from you. SSH
  22. I got my 299A back from Craig with new cans & transformer. Thanks, Santa Craig! I also got to visit with my families who are most important to me. Thank you, Father of He whom we celebrate birthing today. Merry Christmas, SSH
  23. Georg, If there is someone near you with tubes & LaScalas or Cornwalls, Please go listen to them. The 7s are very good speakers, but you owe it to yourself to hear Heritage. SSH
