  1. Texas42, Where in texas are you? I live in FOrt WOrth and have some wave 8's that I'm no longer using. I just bought a scott 222 and will be selling the wave's for cheap. I used them for about 6 months or so. They are the one with the cover and removable power cords. As far as sound goes I really liked them, with the Cornwalls that I used to have, but I also watch alot of movies and they could not drive the cornwalls to spl's that I like when I watch movies. HOwever for music they really played nice. Imaging was good but not great, bass was OK, slam and presentation I think was great. If you are in the FOrt worth or dallas are drop me a private message and I can bring them over for you to test drive. Paul
  2. I live in Fort WOrth and would not mind going over and giving them a look/listen if any one from the Klipsch family would like me to. I also have a digital camera and could take alot of pics for you. Paul
  3. Another thing to think about is whether the tuner has Dobly Digital or HD. I have the RCA DTC100, whick is a DD HD tuner for Direct TV. It also has an over the air tuner so I can recieve most channels in Digital format and about half in HD at some time during the day. To recieve HD signals from space you have to have a different dish than what they give away. JP
  4. Thanks for all of the kind words. Here is a picture of the Heresy center along with the Cornwalls before I sold them. Before I got them home my wife asked how much larger than the Cornies they are. I just smiled and said a little larger. I also told here that they are much smaller than the old Carver Amazing Speakers that I had a few years ago and that they did not have to sit 3 feet into the room. They would just sit in the corners. It took only five minutes for her to put stuff on them. Lynn, I've always been a sucker. Bullseye on back and evrything. Jim Cornell, If you've every seen me you would agree that looks dont matter much Yes I do have them pointing at the sweet spot. I dont care much about appearence, SOUND first. jp
  5. Yep, I already bought them. I called the number and she said that she still had them but her husband would not be home for another 45 minutes and that another guy had called and would be ther in about 1 hour. Well being the owner of my own company I can just leave when I want to. I was at her house in less than 10 minutes. After I got there and saw them, I told her that I wanted them even without hearing them. I kind of feel bad about beating the other guy over, but I got over it after about two minutes. Wrote a check and took cash back over that night with a truck. I did not tell my wife, because she would just have a fit (or something simular). We have this thing... as long as I don't take any money out of the family budget then I can wheel and deal as much as I want too. I sold my Cornwalls for 600, to a local guy that had some Khorns and is going to use one as a center and give the other to his son for his center. My wife said that the Khorns sound pretty good for only an outlay of 150 bucks. This evening I was ably to really listen to them as loud as I wanted. Not too loud only about 90 decibles, but louder that she will allow, (she was out). Nice imaging, sound stage, bass ect. As of right now, I think that the Cornwalls had better imaging, probaly because that the where closer together. I have the tops loose so that I could "untoe" them from the fixed 45 degrees. That helped alot. At my office I have of pair of Heresy's powered by some Antique Sound Labs Wave-8 tubes. I'm bringing them home soon to give them a try. Every friday morning I scour the classifides and this one of the best deals that I've ran accross. Next to my Cornwalls for $200 Gotta get back to work now. JP
  6. Go ahead sell them here, if you dont sell here go to ebay and sell. Just make sure you say LOCAL pick up only. and see what happens.
  7. wow, lucas using a NON thx certified speaker. From www.thx.com Manufacturer Category Model Status Region Special Notes Type B&W Loudspeakers LCR Speaker FCM 8 Certified Worldwide Ultra B&W Loudspeakers Powered Subwoofer 800ASW Certified Worldwide 2 Required Ultra B&W Loudspeakers Subwoofer PCS 8 Certified Worldwide 2 Required Ultra B&W Loudspeakers Surround Speaker DS-6 Certified Worldwide In/On Wall Mounting Ultra B&W Loudspeakers Surround Speaker SCM 8 Certified Worldwide Ultra the 802's are not certified. I've always liked the way B&W sound on music, but not movies. Too laid back for me.
  8. M&K thats what lucas/THX uses. But why have a HT system only when you can have Klipsch and have music ALSO.
  9. almost same story, new neighbor came over and saw my cornwalls and asked why I needed such a large speaker. I asked him what he had, he said bose and that they would sound just as good if not better. So I put on a CD and cranked it up and turned and asked "can your system do that?" we never got to talk about imaging, soundstage, depth, speed ect... He never said another thing about his bose's. jp
  10. Two years ago I bought the Infocus LP350. It was the best for the money that I could afford. It did have the bulb explode on me. Infocus replaced it for free and upgraded the power supply to the new specs. When the bulb blew up I had 800 hours on it. About a week ago I look and I had 550 hours on it. The reason that I purchased the DLP over the LCD is that the screen door was too much for me. LCD does have very rich colors, can be easier to calibrate and longer bulb life. But at $350 for bulb that not allot for what you get. If the bulb life is one third longer, you would only save 116 dollars. That is not much money in my house. All of the reading of reviews ect cannot replace getting out and looking at a few projectors to find out what YOU like. Good luck. JP
  11. A few years ago a guy in Hong Kong wanted to have his wife who was in the states bring back the componets of a pair of cornwalls that I had on ebay. I gave him detailed instructions for the cabinets. He wanted them in parts so that she could bring them home on the plain. Maybe something similar?? paul
  12. Second the Lexicon. Used or demo units are relatively cheep. One nice thing about Lexicons in general is that ther are built kindof like your computer, they have access slots that you can easly upgrade when the next surround options come out. The DC-2's are still good as are the DC-1's. The big difference being in the DAC's, I believe. If you where to go with a reciever, then when the next big thing hits the stores youve got trash the old systme and buy a new units. With lexicon you just buy the card and you keep the tube sound!!! The only draw back is trying to exceed reference levels with flea size amps. But nothing compairs to SET amps and Klipsch. As for your exising speakers I agree with the above, Corns as mains, Heresy as center, sell others and buy more heresy for surounds. Or a single Cornwall for perfect center chanel. Have fun and good listening. jp
  13. Well my Cornwalls did not reach there reserve on ebay, so I'm thinking about refinishing them. The existing stain is dark in color and the finish is a semi gloss poly. As you can see in the picture that I have one bad spot in the finish. I want to remove the poly, sand re-stain and refinish. Has any one tried this? I asked the Home depot guy and he said that if I re-stained them the same color or lighter that the the new stain would be spotty, because the birch would have sucked up so much of the old stain. If I tried to sand down to good wood I may sand through the veneer. Is this correct? I dont want to mess them up, because I still need to sell them. I just bought a pair of Khorns and wife say the Cornwalls have to go. What about re-veneering them. How much or would that reduce the value of them? To me, a nicer finish that is not stock is worth more than a sub par stock finish. What do you think? Thanks jp
