  1. Max: Years ago one of the two record / cd clubs put out an inferior copy. I wonder if perchance you may have two of theirs not needed so they eliminated the record club pressing info. Beyond that it is a mystery. SILVERSPORT: I know what you mean. I have some CDs that are 1/2 the thickness, quite thin. Enjoy your Day.

Not assumptions and inuendo, but real experience? ---------------- Yes. I'll give them time to get all configurations correct. Untilthen I'll stay with RCA Blackplate or 1962 GEs. Allan: I have not really tried KT-66s, but if they are of the same quality as the KT-88s, they should do well over the spectrum of music.
  3. It must be Sesame Street - 1983 - Christmas sale of video tapes for children at Field's. Only thing was the movie turned out to be Debbie does Dallas. Refunds were given to those parents wishing them.
  4. These are my preferences: 6L6GC: RCA Black Plate Ecc83/12AX7: Telefunken or Mullard the same for ECC82/12AU7 Alternate 6L6GC: 1962 General Electric's
  5. For the Boxed sets, I've come across variations on Capitol, Decca, Imperials. Ithink it may be due to different pressing plants, or the heavier is newer as more are going to 180 gram vinyl
  6. I can remember when GM was proudly saying the Prizm (correct me if I'm wrong) was their leading seller. It was made by Toyota - a slightly different looking Corolla. Price was higher. My feelings are not that all rich are evil. They run from disgust to dismay about the baseball player living paycheck to paycheck. With Kodak and Xerox, it's a pride issue. The same as what would cause Gannett to be sick if he saw our daily paper. We used to have two, A morning and an evening. The evening was eliminated and the daily morning that's left is so thin you can easily miss a section. With Kodak there was pride in supporting home town business and your neighbors who worked at the Company. I used to take a lot of pictures. Sunsets, full moon over water, mood scenes. I don't think I've even bought a roll of film since the move of developing. Somehow we've gone from a point where the President of a number of Companies whose salary and benefits were 82 times that of the average worker in 1982 to just over 300 times and jobs are sent away. Maybe China is a huge market, but when the leaders have knocked the U.S. as they have, I just wait for a Government tariff to be put on products. Or a restriction or Governmental take over of plants. We hear about job growth. In the Service Industry. If we keep losing jobs at the rate we have been, who will be able to afford the services? All of the layoofs have hurt the City's tax base. We not only have 911 we have 311. House broken into and the crook is gone, call 311 and report it all over the phone. Fender bender with no injuries, not much damage, 311. On a house valued at 50,000, I pay close to $2,000.00 per year in taxes. It amazes me that 330,000 plus is in the starting salary range of a sport, we pay a lot for tickets, parking is 3 or 4 times the norm, food and beverages - you can go out for a steak dinner. Then the athletes playing the sport that they love, or the actors, musicians get annoyed when asked for their autograph. "We have no privacy." Pick another profession. Even radio has become cheap. When they used to run a contest, if you were the right number caller, you won. Now your name is entered for a drawing. I agree with Audible and I'm also glad that I don't have children. As optimistic as I would love to be I see reality. For the whole, I'm fine now, but the medical bills and prescription costs I've had to pay. I could have K-Horns in every room, including the throne.
  7. Yes baseball is just a game. Football is just a game and for Monday nights it will be a memory. ESPN paid one Billion to get it. I remember the good old days before cable. All home channels were free, sporting events were televised. Now we pay for cable or sattelite plus pay per view. Lovely world.

A PD-5 is good to 6000 Hz, NO HIGHER! Al K. ---------------- Then I would ask why they publish the spec of 10,000 and the PD-4 to 7,000. I would also wonder why Atlas would repeat the same thing twice - two different people. 1-800-876-3333 I did not print the cut sheet, but I did make the calls. Unless the difference is the size of the driver as I notes. On the old sheet the driver looks to be larger and shaped like the old green bullet harmonica microphone by Shure. 2nd: There is a similar bounce up at about 18,000 but not as drastic. Noting the 2001 sheet; Application "the drivers...provide uniform, extended response and clear, natural sound reproduction in high and mid-range frequencies..." "FEATURES:" Extended frequency response range for optimum Intelligibility" If we say 6,000 HZ then look at the Atlas sheets We have the 35 watt 75 - 10,000 CPS (HZ) or the 2001 which states a "plane wave response of 110 - 4,100 HZ plus minus 5 db but which the graph conflicts with by showing a higher and lower response. Tis a tad confusing. But it's from Atlas. Note the 2001 specs are for a 40 watt driver
  9. ---------------- On 5/8/2005 2:22:35 PM bsafirebird1969 wrote: i guess you could mix on any decent fidelity speaker ... the trick is to learn what to correct for in the finished product ... what , say, JBL 4311's have going for them, is not a flat response, but the fact that nearly ANY engineer is familiar with the sound produced from such speaker .. ---------------- I agree with firebird, but have to add. Almost every speaker sounds different in one fashion. Be it treble, mid, bass, poor output the list would go on. The other point would be the source Components. Pre-Amplifiers, Amplifiers, CD Players, SACDs, TTs, their cartridges. It would be impossible for the Engineer to know what combinations would be used. There may be similarities, but not identical. As Tube McIntosh sounds different the Marantz, Fisher, Dynaco, Solid State has their own differences. Then even before the consumer buys the finished product - tape, CD, SACD, LP there is the mastering, pressing, quality of vinyl, burning the CD and quality there. Those are beyond the Engineer's control. And then you get to Component differences. And as I always note, hearing curve. Depending upon hearing - any time during the day sinuses change which affects hearing, what the Engineer is pleased with another may disagree. So while an Engineer may mix for a certain brand and model of speaker, there are too many other factors. But, mixing for a certain speaker will not be cause for a poor reproduction on other equipment. Unless the speaker the engineer mixes for is a flat freaquency or deficient in bass or treble and the speaker mixed for is the opposite. It can be done, but for a select group that owns equipment with the same responces and with rooms almost identical in sonic qualities.
  10. Hi Greg: Good points i have only one to note differentl - Eastman Kodak. Non-Union. I posted those as they received a disparity in compensation compared to the line worker. Much compensation was received for sending jobs overseas. You see what a number do not. I don't put all of the blame on unions, I do put some on those who hire. I always wore a suit and tie to an interview, even the Civil Service Test. Now I've seen applicants that don't even have their shirts tucked into the holed jeans they're wearing. For other profit, one of my blood pressure meds would cost $249.00 for a three month supply if you have no insurance, a sixty dollar co-pay and insurance pays $150.. rounded. The cost to the Pharmacy is under $12.00. Then maybe 8 minutes to fill the prescription. We should all make so much profit.
  11. Another small print from the early model: "Above Models include built-in "Uni-Match" transformers offering an impedance match at 160,250, 500, 1000 and 2000 ohms or, based on a 70 watt line the equivalent power of 30, 20 10, 5, and 2.5 watts. Permits a change of sound power output level in steps of approximately 3 db when used with constant 70 volt output amplifiers. Also re-noted is Power rating for speech and music integrated input." So if the PD-5VH extends to 10,000 CPS (HZ), but the graph shows an extension the albeit dropped to 20,000 Hz and the PD-4V states to 7,000 CPS (HZ), plus the number of people I spoke with remembers its use (9 people) besides the Heresy, could the PD-4V have been used in other models? Granted the specs as of the 2001 note plus / minus 5 db, fitting the efficiency profile, The plus / minus of Klipsch, there is still a stated Alnico magnet, 6 screws assuring permanent diaphram location which may have been changed to the 3 pins. Plus the frequency range would be sufficient. 75 - 7000 CPS (HZ.) If you look at the PD-5VH as per the early cut sheet it looks completely different, while the PD-4V looks like what I have seen in my LaScalas and in a number of Heresys. The PD-5VH of then looks nothing like the PD-5VH as shown in the 2001 cut sheet.

Bob, thanks for the clarificition. Sure, there's what it does, and then the part is does that we can use. ---------------- Dean can you email or PM a fax number and I'll send what I have. I did notice after looking at it a while, the 35 watt specs are a page form most likely the mid to late '60s or early '70s. The 40 Watt specs have a date (duh) of copyright 2001. I wish that I had the additional 35 watt pages with their graphs, they may be more of an answer. The 2001 graph shows a peak around 9,000 hz. I meant that by stating my case I did 't mean to flame. And, I need glasses - the wave tube response is shown as going to 20,000 HZ. If you "ballpark" envision a buffalo from a buffalo nickel just have the hump smoothed out a bit. I tried drawing it, but it didn't work. So we're fine. Also interesting is that they note the PD-4V as having 6 mounting holes, which I've seen and then I've seen them with the three pins. It's an interesting page. You've probably seen the 2001, if not and you want it let me know. Win
  13. Please excuse my inability to CCP: ATLAS SUPER-POWER DRIVER UNITS and Eplosion Proof Speakers ALL wITH THE NEW "ALNICO V-Plus" super efficient magneti9c circuit. First Model Shown is PD-5VH Power: 35 watts (tested for integrated speech and music input - that was a notation at bottom) Impedance: 16 ohms FREQUENCY: 75 - 10,000 CPS Shipping weight: 5 lbs. MODEL PD-4V Power: 30 watts ( also noted speech/music) Impedance: 16 Ohms FREQUENCY: 75 - 7,000 CPS (I erred above stating 6,000) Shipping Weight: 5 lbs. Also liste on same page is {PD-8VT I do have the page with the PD-5VH Impedance chart and also the PD-5VH Wave Tube Response. The wave tube response does show a roll off beginning at about 6,250 but has another peak at what looks like 9,000 Hz then a gentle roll-off to 10,000. Shown on the Artichect and Engineer Specifications page. They also note actual frequency respons of a driver / horn combination will vary depending on the horn used with the driver. Consult individual horn specifications sheet for typical horn frequency response. Average sound db level for the 4 and the 5 are 110.7 - per sheet. In speaking with the Technical Department people that Remember the PD-4V and the PD-5VH, the output levels were whin 1 / 2 db. EDIT: The Frequency Response was plus/minus 5 db. Plane wave response was liste at 4,100 hz, low frequency limit listed as 250 hz. The one page is old enough to note CPS, the graph page is new enough to note HZ. I would like to see the page with graphs and Impedance in CPS as that would be the older as the face page I have. END EDIT 2nd EDIT: The first page denotes a 35 watt driver, the graph page denotes a 40 watt driver END EDIT

EDIT: This was done after the prior discussion of drivers. Since that time I had a second confimation from, the confirmations from Atlas, another long time Klipsch Dealer, an Authorized Klipsch Tech and additionally now one from Indy regarding the use of the PD-4V. Any calls that were not toll free, I paid for myself, including the faxing of the information to Bob. I'm not looking for a flame.
  15. Atlas publishes the specs of the PD-5 to go to 10,000 as per their cut sheet. They publish the frequency response of the PD-4V with the push in spring terminals to extend to 6,000. The PD-4V was discontinued by Atlas in the late 1960s. The remaining inventory was purchased by a well known Speaker Manufacturer.

I just can't imagine what it's like to live on only $28,250.00 per month and then get only $80.00 per diem when on the road. I've seen how hard it is on The Food Network for only $40..00 per day. It has to be twice as bad. :
  17. Reading Financial sections of various newspapers the past three days have given me these treasures: For the Year 2004 Xerox President's Compensation including a rough 1.8 million dollar salary, Stock, Stock options, bonuses totaled over 8.3 million dollars. Not including extra perks. Laid off about 2,000 workers Eastman Kodak President's compensation including over 1.5 million dollars stock, stock options, not including other perks totaled over 6 million dollars. Moved film processing to China laid off about 1800 workers GM states that in the cost of each vehicle made is $1525.00 in health benefits paid to workers. A quote notes that the Japenese have an un fair advantage because the Government provides Health Care. He loved to work on cars but never thought he would be a Health Benefit Administrator. Lastly, Dodgers Catcher Jason Phillips doesn't know how he would make it if he were suspended for steroid use. "It's different with the guys that have been in the big leagues a lot of years and making millions, saying the suspension would be too harsh." He and his family live paycheck to paycheck. He worries about having to go to work for Burger King, ask he asked the interviewer what they would do. He made a commentbout eating 5 poppy seed rolls. For clarification Phillips is earning $339,000 not including his $80.00 per day food per diem. Living paycheck to paycheck means he has to make do on two paychecks per month of $14,125.00 each $28,250 per month. Shall we take up a collection? or send directions to food pantries where he can get food free?
  18. A check of Terry Britton, most known for Tina Turner's "Private Dancer" is worhthwhile. A quality engineer - both in the Recording Stage and the final mix. Plays a number of instruments and has a very nice classical background as well. A person well worth knowing.
  19. I've got you beat by 7 years and one day short of 7 months. Remember, respect your elders - some say elderberries LOL Happy Birthday!!!!!
  20. If that is ryan, that's pretty stupid, immature and a waste of our time. Soon it will get to the point where we only answer, post to a certain few. One idiot, if ryan, messes things up for all new people. If some-one recognizes a bozo, would they please post early? I HAD been losing some cynicism. EDIT: let's see GM - General Motors (I wonder if permission had ever been granted for use) - General Moron. What a child - to try to start a flame. You make me sick. END EDIT
  21. And as we have to have one questionable: Paradise By The Dashboard Light - Meatloaf
  22. Daddy You are one of the few that has ever mentioned the Jackson Browne version of Take It Easy - Most always say only the Eagles. But as long as Jackson is mentioned: Running on Empty or Doctor my Eyes.
  23. My Sony CD player has fixed and variable ouputs. So I have the Fixed going to an NAD and the variable to something else I move in at the time. I use that for headphone listening a lot.
  24. One nice thing about webtv is you can check and see your cookies. I'll do a search on Google and pick up Google.com. Then for a number of products (furman is one) I get hit with "googleleadservices." Each time I go to eBay I get a double click. I can empty easily. Others are atdmt services and some that are just numbers looooooong numbers.
  25. Once the weather is warmer "Sweet City Woman" can't remember who did it, always seemed to be a summer song. In the Summertime by Mungo Jerry - riding with my Father memories.
