  1. I sure did a double-take when I saw them. They look like the real deal, It's unusual to be surprised by an "unknown" klipsch model. Wonder what xover it has? Dee
  2. This is a great time to score La Scalas. There are so many available on Ebay and Audiogon, the supply/demand thing, makes it a buyers market. Dee
  3. I remember hearing these in the college dorm. Thought they were awesome at the time, but not in the same league as Heresy. Dee
  4. The chemical strippers are effective for sure, and have to be handled carefully or you'll burn your hands and anything else. With most of the finish off, it shouldn't take alot of stripper. If the specs are only in the pores, they would likely be pretty small and maybe unnoticeable. if you wanted to test finish a small area to see if you like how it looks. Worst case is deciding to strip off your test area and keep on with the stripper. Dee
  5. Keith, Guess I've lived a sheltered life. didn't know such was possible. Hope you post your results. Thanks. Dee
  6. Advent... and then North American Squires -- a Klipsch inspired design by Greg Doddrill in Dallas. Actually beat Cornwalls in an A/B comparison! if you ever find one of these rare babies, they will kick some A
  7. BBB, You obviously have waaaay tooo much time on your hands. Glad you are creative with all that time. Dee
  8. Most television just sucks. Reality shows are reality allright, they are mostly all about deception, betrayal, manipulation. Sorry to say that even the news has got way too much time to fill. For example last year when Senator Wellstone's plane crashed... I waited through three segments and commercial breaks to get to hear the "EXPERT" who was coming up "NEXT". After all that, when finally getting to the expert, this is what he said about the plane crash.... ...."SOMETHING WENT WRONG!" That was the news on the FoxNews Channel, and that's as good as it gets. I haven't watched any TV to speak of in months. I listen to 2 channel, read, and get my news on the net. I get cranky just thinking about TV. Dee
  9. Hope it's time to dry out by now. Does it work o.k. as expected? Regards, Dee p.s. that is one bummed out day to have coffee spilled in a speaker.
  10. Hi, and welcome to the forum. I did a little looking around on the Aiwa website to see if they had any info on your system. They do, and here is the URL of one of the FAQ pages. http://www.us.aiwa.com/default.asp?page=faq&action=view&question=1 Now, I don't know why Aiwa would have two sets of speaker outputs if it's not o.k. to connect an additional set of speakers, but they do warn that this could damage your system. Their systems are designed only to use the speakers they supply. They've got alot of material on their systems. Worth taking a look at. Take care, and enjoy the music! Best regards, Dee

  12. Jim, Thanks for your note. Yep, from the posts I read, their street value is not especially high. Would be interested to hear folks take on that question. One thing for sure, when you win an auction on Ebay, you won't know what your getting in this one til it shows up. This particular unit was described as having "had my tech go over it and it's in great shape". yeah, right. It was o.k., and has cleaned up real nice with a little TLC, but one channel was DOA. My brother in law and a buddy, after replacing fuses and lights got it going in good order it's nice. Dee
  13. Dean, Dennis sounds like your best friend. Absolutely amazing to find civilized and personable communication and desire to reach out to customer/constituents. Just reading your post earned about a ton of good will with me for Cary. Looking forward to hearing what he says when y'all talk. Perhaps he was overstating the case about the feedback switch in the quote you had earlier. Regards, Dee
  14. Thanks for the post. I wouldn't have any trouble with the $30.It would be interesting to hear. Just don't have the gear to play it right now. Regards, Dee
  15. Mike, What you've posted describing your evening, (except for the scotch ) is a great testimony to the bang for the buck value of Klipsch and vintage Scott or other amps. You've got good audio nailed. Don't know what a realistic estimate would be, but from where you are, one would probably have to double their investment even to get a modest improvement. Hope you can post your take on hearing the other really high end gear. Thanks, and best regards, Dee
  16. Double post. Man, is this system great or what? Stands in dramatic contrast to the quality of Klipsch. But I won't let it spoil my day. Life is just too short. Since I'm editing this double post anyway, might as well add that one surprising, but pleasing element to this season is that my wife has gotten interested in listening, too. She used to just tolerate my music. Now as I've been auditioning different amp typologies, she comes in and sits down, comments on what she hears compared to another, etc. She even puts on her own CD's to listen while she is sewing or quilting, and such. This is what I would call serendipity! Dee

I can remember when Santa brought my first "record player". Listened to 33's 45's and even a few 78's. My folks said the Beatles and rock music were just a fad. "Turn it down" became the most often spoken words in my household, after "wait until your father gets home." Took my high school graduation money and bought some kind of whole box system with a tuner, record changer and 8 TRACK TAPE PLAYER. It sounded amazingly good for what it was. Even had a chrome rack on the top, next to the turntable for 8 track tapes! It lasted a couple of years in the dorm. I'd lived a pretty sheltered life before that, but hearing the neighbors Advents, Kenwood or Pioneer receivers and higher end TT's got me hooked. I've been friends with Advent, Kenwood, Hafler, Yamaha, Teac, Nakamichi, Mc, Denon, North American, Bose, Cambridge Soundworks, lots of Always admired Klipsch, but never had made that switch, curiously, until this year. When people talked about La Scala's being revealing, boy is that ever true. In a way I didn't know what I was missing, and then I found out what my sources really sounded like. Thus the journey into tube land, but this sure has been alot of fun. And amazing, amazing. Who would have ever thought that in the third millenium, I'd think the best possible sounding setup, to my ears, uses horns whose design dates to the 1940's and tubes earlier than that. No doubt, the fine tuning of the technology is impressive in subsequent years, but that's what it is, fine tuning. I've just ordered the PWK book and am looking forward to reading it. Best regards to all on the forum. Found this place after learning about it from another forum member I'd run across on Ebay and corresponded with in my search for La Scala parts. Turns out he only lives 90 miles away. I've learned alot so far, and appreciate the advisement I've received in sorting out the real deal from the multitude of hype in the audio world. Hello, my name is Dee and I'm an audio addict.

  19. Jim, John, Maron, Just wanted to check out a couple of things to make sure I'm tracking on this discussion. Jim, you replaced the older alinco K-77's with the K-77-M (w/square ceramic magnet) and found them to be mud? Just unsatisfactory? That's interesting. I've got some stock of both and have been using them interchangeably w/o alot of A/B comparison, pretty much assuming I couldn't hear a difference. Is there the thought here that this particular pair of K77M's have been driven so hard they don't sound right, but have not completely failed? The price Jim paid was, it seems to me, better than they sometimes sell for on Ebay. Appreciate your feedback on this. best regards, Dee
  20. Wow, Best Buy has the best employee purchase program I know. Maybe I've just lived a sheltered life, but aren't most retailers selling to employees at something like 10% off price. the cost + 5% could offer some significant discounts. BTW, "accomodation program" is also a new term to me. If anyone could enlighten me, I'd appreciate it. This is a teachable moment! Thanks and best regards, Dee
  21. Interesting ending to this auction. The pair of amps went for $1600, as one would expect sniped in the last seconds. Bummer for the guy who'd had a good bid in for several days, he put in a snipe bid at the last second, literally, but only for the same amount as the winning bidder who had bid the same amount a few seconds earlier. The seller had agreed to fax the schematics, but didn't. I didn't contact him again with a second request. Thanks guys, for the posts, I learned ALOT on this thread. Best regards, Dee

Is that a disk washer lp cleaner on the cab in the picture? Haven't seen one of those in years. Been out of the LP business a long long time. regards, Dee
  23. Leo, I bet the Chorus sounds great with the MD's. Was wondering, were there any other Klipsch on your short list as candidates when you decided on the Chorus? Haven't heard them myself, and would love to sometime, but reading the tons of posts on AudioReview, they must be sweet! Regards, Dee
