  1. Oh, I suppose there are "no cone colorations" "no crossover colorations" "no box colorations". The perfect speaker has been made and now we shall all flock to it. Please pass me my second mortgage! IT is just an opinion and hopefully we can all agree to just not agree. I love my heritage with home brewed tube amps and can't get enough of their raw in your face presence which I can't find in a box. You are different, more power to you. HEE HEE, Krell loves power, CG&E loves Krell, is there some kind of commie plot here? The republicans are out to get us!AAGGRRGGHH. Too much lager,, out but not forgotten, goodnight.
  2. Thanks Randy, guessing that I'll need to change a few components to acheive a type a out of an al. Do you agree? Randy
  3. tbabb, what is a decent price on this exotic sweeeeet sounding gear you have in your home now?? I'm still listening to some not so sota cd player. Randy
  4. Hey Guy, thanks for the reply. Three out of five are the larger and a little lighter colored base and only two have the hole in the center guide, funny thing is the only one marked mullard is the one without the hole. The other two with the smaller and darker base have holes in the guide and holes in the base where the number 6 pin should be. One of these has the mullard name still visable. Is this a crazy world or what? Randy
  5. I agree, the belle's I've seen have a different "point" at the face. Randy
  6. Eric, you did a real fine job of woodworking there! I would not sell them either, fine job. Randy
  7. Have an old dynaco st-70 (that needs work) with a compliment of 4 el-34's plus 1. I know 2 are Mullards and believe the other 3 are also but can't be sure because the paint is gone. One tests out over 100% on the tester I've borrowed from a friend and the others are 95, 95, 94 and 86. The 86 and the 100 are the ones with paint still on them. What would be the line between a good tube and a bad tube here? Are these tubes still viable? Also have a mullard box with a gz-34 tube that tests new but again no paint left on it. Also a Sylvania gz-34 made in Great Britain that looks and tests new. 1)Would the two gz-34's be compatable? 2)Are the top four el-34's ok to use together in an amp? I'd like to try them in the modified MKII's that are currently biased for and using 6550's to compare sound. 3)On an unrelated note,Paul CBC,please contact me, I need to talk to you. Thanks and a hat tip to all, hope you've all had a great weekend, Randy
  8. They are beautiful but what are they? They look like a mix of klipschorn and lascala. Maybe he's got the 18 mixed up with 15. If they are klipsch they'd be worth the 1000. Randy
  9. John, do you have a type AA schematic? TRying to see if RB's conversion is compatable with mmine, going from AL to A.
  10. Not to forget you Randy, did you change the transformer and cap in yours????? What did you think of yours? Randy
  11. Thanks John, I'm printing the files now. The DHA looks good. On the type A it looks like the AL can be changed by adding two new parts? The 13uF cap and the T2A. Or will the T3A that's in there and the 8uF cap work? There are some blurry parts on the AL schematic. Thanks, Randy
  12. Thanks djk, when I did the search maybe I used the wrong search words, only came up with one post. Randy
  13. Craig, was that new or used for 80 bucks?
  14. Craig, did I send you the bottom plate for the MKII, just found one laying in the clutter. Also have a cage for the top. Sent you 3 more boxes friday, have about a half box left. Randy
  15. How about building one? It would seem to be a rather easy item to throw together. Anyone out there done this before? Randy
  16. Thanks, I've done the search but Frode is the only one to write that he has tried part of the mod and he hasn't written on his experience lately.
  17. Several months ago there was an article on enclosing the top of the Lascala and porting it. There was a claim of lower and better bass. Did anyone here ever try this or hear one that was actually done. Randy
  18. My 86 Lascala's have the AL crossovers and I'm looking to build a set of type A's. Can or should I use any of the parts that are in these already? In the future I also intend to build a set of Al K's crossover but would like to hear what all the raves about the simple A's are about. The price isn't a concern here. Does anyone have a list of components and maybe a location of where they are available? Thanks, Randy
  19. I think craig was correct in what he was trying to get across. Some parts may be a safety item even, an old 3 or 4 way cap comes to mind. After not listening to my old amps for years not a one of them would fire up without a problem. Old parts were or are the problem with each and every one of them. I'm sure that Craig is not saying that one must go in and replace every part in every piece of old vintage gear that is lying about but common sense should be used to safely keep your babies kicking.IMHO Randy
  20. Thanks for your tip about DIYCable.com, not bad. Was hoping to get another design, maybe easier maybe better from Craig.
  21. Hey Craig, you wouldn't post the material to make your interconnect would you? Randy
