  1. Bought it 2nd hand. Hooked it up a couple months back but mostly been using for CD's and OTA TV. Thanks for your valued input Schu...very helpful. You have an Elite AVR...any constructive thoughts?
  2. I was trying to play a standard DVD 'There Will Be Blood', and I can't get dolby digital...seems to be an HDMI setting, but I thought I had them set correctly in both components.
  3. Elite SC-63, yes both BD & DVD buttons and I went into the System Input Setup menu's to setup and tried them separately when I had the HDMI cables in the respective inputs.
  4. I have read and re-read both manuals, tried many menu variations and both BD and DVD HDMI inputs on the AVR and can't seem to get a native digital signal from the Oppo to the Pioneer AVR, I have not tried a different HDMI cable yet. I am using OTA TV broadcast and pulling Dolby digital via optical out of the TV into the AVR,,,no problem. The TV is an 8 year old Samsung DLP without ARC. I have the TV hooked up to the AVR's HDMI out. I tried AUTO on the HDMI audio out on the OPPO, but changed that to BITSTREAM per the Oppo manual. The Pioneer is new to me, but the manual says the display will show the signal it is getting, which appears to be PCM. Also, only the L R speaker indicators light on the display, but when pulling the OTA TV signal in Dolby Digital, all 5 show as you would expect. I tried the AUTO/ALC/Direct button on the remote which should detect the optimal signal (in this case DVD Dolby Digital), and it selects STEREO. If anyone has these two components and any ideas, I would be grateful. I know it could be hard to diagnose in writing, so if you have the time tonight or tomorrow, I could call you. Please PM me when you have time and I can call you. I may have to throw in the towel tonight and play some tunes.
  5. If the tags are still affixed to the back you can ask the seller to confirm. My 1.5's clearly identify them as 'Medium Oak', and they are much lighter than the picture of these, but lighting can be tricky.
  6. Interesting & informative thread. I swapped out my older Outlaw pre/pro with a Pioneer Elite AVR & ran MCACC. I am not using the amps in the AVR, using the pre-outs to my Outlaw amp. The db level on the volume knob on the Pioneer is definitely not the same as the Outlaw pre/pro, so I agree that it varies across brands...frustrating! I need to re-calibrate again and been putting it off because the test tones are loud and the weather hasn't been so great to put the dogs out while running the test tones. Don't need their barking to throw it off. I don't suppose you can run the calibration at lower db's and then adjust everything up equally? 1. Can/should I adjust the V knob reading to a "standard"? 2. My RSW-15 has a volume knob on the side which I will use to adjust the sub when needed. Should that volume knob be at a certain spot prior to calibrating? 3. I have a Radio Shack SPL meter. Do you guys run your proprietary calibration software, and then check & adjust each speaker with the meter afterwards?
  7. Here's the RB75 next to the RB5 PICT0024.JPG PICT0025.JPG Oh geez...now I see I have to upgrade my rear cherry RB-5II's with cherry 75's someday. Can't we ever just be content and happy?? Thanks a lot for posting this Tasdom.
  8. Sounds like a Shrek meal. Have a safe & very Merry Christmas guys!
  9. Did they bring the RV?...picturing Cousin Eddie on the curb emptying the shitter.

  12. Nice! Post pics of them. I bet they are both beautiful. PRS makes some gorgeous guitars and the Les Paul is a classic.
  13. He has to come up for air eventually...
  14. Happy Birthday Derrick! Have a FUN day!
  15. Happy Birthday! Time to retire or semi-retire and keep that system fired up all week! Have FUN today!
  16. Still sleeping on a waterbed...35+ years and counting. Tried a regular bed about 20 years ago and it was like sleeping on a concrete driveway. The type we have had since is the near motionless one. Two black labs are up on it every night. They are really digging the warmth seeing as we keep the T-stat at 59 degrees on the furnace. Rarely goes on with the wood stoves going. Haven't had propane delivered in years. Been putting slippers on the foot corners of the waterbed to keep the hounds off during the day. Didn't stop Blaze the other day so I had to add a couple magazines. They are on it as i type this because they know if they get down I will put stuff on it to keep them off. Blockheads!
  17. Rats!...even further. Maybe I can get my flight changed. I bet the Evan Williams nog is good, eh?
  18. That didn't take long to get pics of what they could look like. Please post progress pics along the way. Good luck with the refinishing or veneering!
  19. Nice! How's the bass with the shorter vaulted ceilings? Is the back wall closed or is this an open loft? That ATC 70 would look cool up there, but I guess the turning radius would be a bit tight.
  20. Thanks for the tip! I've seen Lord Calvert, but did not know it was so similar to Crown. I will definitely try it. I haven't bought Crown in years because of the price.
  21. I think Crown Royal would be good too.....but I'm old enough to remember Royal Crown Back from breakfast.....cook knows us well. If we ask for two eggs he gives us three and doubles up on the hash browns. Drinking a third cup. TGIF! Been capping the night off with a spiked egg nog quite often this week and likely every night through New Years. Had CC (Canadian Club whiskey) last week. Is that the official whiskey of this thread? Tried Black Velvet...pretty smooth. Last night finished the bottom of a bottle of Christian Brother's brandy from last year. Was only using brandy last year, but I think whiskey is even better in them. Crown Royal in egg nog? Man, I am going to Tarheel's tonight! I love Crown Royal. Don't worry, I'll get out before the LF arrives. If you did indeed mean Royal Crown, I'll unpack my bags. I hear rum is pretty common in nog too. Kind of drifted away from rum, but I bet Captain Morgan's would be pretty tasty in nog. Always sad in mid January when the egg nog disappears from the stores. Anyone have a good family recipe?
  22. Tarheel, you are motivating me to get back at practicing that difficult instrument they call a guitar. I definitely prefer the electric when finger tips are not calloused. The electric strings are not as brutal on them. This is going to be one of many New Year's resolutions. To pick it up and practice at least one 20 minute session EVERY DAY. Better yet, three separate 20 minute sessions. You are very wise to take face-to-face lessons, especially if you have a good teacher. There is a ton of stuff on the web, but none of it will observe what you may be doing wrong, such as posture, etc... One tip that really helped me with chord changes is to form the chord with your first finger first, etc... Not sure why, but a lot of folks the tendency is to start forming the new chord with the pinky and then working to the index finger. This is not as effective because most strumming is down with the first chord strum and it gives you a few nano seconds to finish forming the chord while beginning the strum. Unfortunately I do because no cell phone service is reliable in my rural area. I typically have to go outside and climb a tree..kind of like Green Acres dude climbing the telephone pole. Not using a phone myself I find that really crazy, it's like that everywhere. I told my wife if a meteor were to take out satellites and cellphone towers a big part of the population would have a nervous breakdown and just stand dumbfounded as to how to get things done. Like driving, is what's going on with your phone worth dieing for ? What are they thinking ? But the birthrate has probably dropped of because of cellphones, until they come out with an app for that . Saw a rear end collision at lunch. No brake squeal at all. Knocked the car ahead into the next car ahead. Want to bet it was cell phone related? Saw the same scenario about a block from there a couple of months ago. It's getting serious folks Took my Mom & Dad and my sister to see a house totally decked out with Christmas lights last year. Kid came from nowhere and plowed into the back of us. Luckily no one was hurt. First thing I asked him was, "were you texting"? His delayed answer was not at all convincing. He didn't admit it, but he didn't say no. Be safe and cognizant of upcoming cars when admiring Christmas lights!
