Daddy Dee
My church has been involved with this for several years. It's called AngelFoodMinistries. Biggest misconception is that this is for poor people. Of course, three a persons of all economic situations who participate. It's a once a month deal. Participants place an order for $30 dollars each month and pick it up on a designated Saturday morning. The box of food will feed a family of four for approximately a week, or a Senior citizen for approximately a week. Once the basic box is ordered, there are specialty boxes with meats, fruits, veggies, whatever that can be purchased additionally to the basic box. If you'd like to check out the menu, locations or whatever, http://www.angelfoodministries.com/ Disclaimer: Though my family participates in this, I don't get anything if you do. This is just info in case you'd be interested. It's all non-profit. Some people are counting their pennies during this recession or depression or whatever it is. endover
My church has been doing this as well for the last year or so and it's great. We currently pass out about 1,000 meal packages a month. It's a great deal and it's good quality food! We expect the monthly numbers to grow during this economy.
Groomlakearea51
First Baptist here does it in conjunction with the local community food bank. They do really great work helping out the less fortunate. [Y][Y][Y]

ssh
Active in El Do, Dee, but pickup times are during work hours. Saturday pickup probably is more all-inclusive. SSh
Daddy Dee
Steve, wow. hadn't realized some pick up times were during business hours. That's not really helpful at all.
ssh
Not for those of us who work, Dee. Otherwise, I'd pick up food for my 85 yr. old mother, and myself. SSH
endover
hmmmm...that does seem odd. The Angel food truck for our area delivers the food to us early Saturday morning and we repackage it for the individual ordres and have it ready to be passed out by 10am Saturday mornings. The process works unbelievably well. We have enough volunteers to do the repackaging and passing out of food (and maintaining order with that many folks).
