I travel quite a bit on the job and always arm myselft with an Escort SOLO S2 Cordless. I've had this detector for the last 5 years and have save myself countless times from the west coast to the east coast even in Virginia.

My next detector will be the Escort Redline. This is the best you can get.

You should slow down and prepare to stop on a yellow light. Yellow light is exactly that. Technically, a yellow light time depends on the speed limit of the road. A 2-second yellow light means the speed limit is 20MPH. I can't imagine any highway with a 20MPH speed limit. Moreover, a 20MPH speed limit roadway never have stop light.

Noah if you want the best detector with GPS Photo and Red Light Camera detection, then the Escort Passport 9500ix is it.

I am told that there are places where little towns put in those stop light cameras and at the same time shorten the yellow light time so that more drivers are "caught" going through the red... not speeding but busted by a 2 second yellow light.

how old (or what model, if you remember) was the escort?

That happaned in 2000 after I got my Z-28, not sure of the model #, maybe 2600 or 2800 bought used. The MHP got me on moving radar, so no POP. The big thing about the Valentine is the directional arrows and bogie counter. I am not sure if any other manufacturer has these features yet but i would absolutely not consider a detector without them.

I have never been in trouble with moving radar on my Escort Solo S2. It can detect moving radar 2 miles ahead.

Noah,

I have owned 5 seperate models of the PassPort, Escort Line, over the past 20 or so years. These models are made by Cincinnati Microwave.

Valentine came about from the sale of Cincinnati Microwave and is owned by the family of the orriginal owner of Cincinatti Microwave.

Cincinnati Microwave is owned by the orriginal head technicians at Cincinnati Microwave.

My best friend who first turned me onto the PassPort way back in the day, had a Valentine for a while, and the only thing I liked about it is that it had arrows to tell you if the radar was comming from in front of you, or from behind you.

The very top model from Cincinnati Microwave is about $1,500 and you mount it in your dash. It has remote detectors that mount in front, in back, and both sides and has a feature to instantly interfear with laser.

Both that model, and the next one down, wich is about $500, not only have GPS maps to tell you where radar cameras are, but they have a function where you can add new radar cameras are placed, they both have a function that the sensitivity automatically changes with the speed you are driving (it reads your speed via GPS) this way it doesn't go off from radar 2 miles ahead while you are in town. Both models have a learning function in that store alarm systems they pass on regular driving routes, the units will record these as false signals and over time the units will automatically not alarm to these false signals, and both units can record your top speed just like a regular GPS, so you can verify if you went as fast as what Barney Fife says you were going.

When I first moved here, I was amazed to find we have a number of 30kph/20mph zones on one-step-below-main streets (with traffic lights), with the occasional speed trap, and to make it worse, some of the seniors will idle along at 25km/hr (15.5mph). They'll also drive at 40km/hr (25mph) in the 50km/hr (31mph) zones of most main streets. I'm glad I'm retired and don't have to deal with these rolling roadblocks on the way to work.

On the other hand, we have 10-second amber lights, with countdowns on quite a few of them.

It could be a mini microwave too, but until it performs like a Valentine One, I will stick with aValentine One. I have had others, my brother I think has an Escort... total garbage compared to the V1. My bro-in-law uses V1 in his M5, I used the V1 in my M3, and my dad in his 530BMW. I also used a lazer jammer, but to be honest, I do not know from first hand experience if it was effective or not.

Escort has been the top name of many different models from Cincinnati Microwave over the years, so saying "I think it was an Escort" says absolutely nothing.

If what you have, or what you drive is somehow supposed to equate to that you must know more about radar detectors, My best friend is one of four brothers. He farms 4,000 acres and owns three semis, a turbo diesel Mercedes, a Cadilac, a 2010 Chevy 2500 Diesel Crew Cab, a second 2008 Chevy 2500 Diesel Crew Cab, a 1979 Camaro big block drag car, a 1999 H1 Hummer bought brand new, and a Jeep with a small block Chevy. His son is 26 and owns a 2010 Escalade, a 2008 Dodge 3500 Diesel crew cab, and a 2009 Mercedes turbo Diesel (All of these vehicles are paid for)

His brother who turned me onto the PassPort and later owned the Valentine is a Micro Biologyst, owns his own lab, has 5 guys with Phds in Micro working for him, Owns an H1 Hummer, two seperate cars that have been iFeatured in Hot Rod magazine including a 1,400 HP 1969 RS Z-28 Camaro that has been a "Cover Car" on three seperate magazines, ammongst several other vehicles.

A third brother owns a 5 acre auto wrecking yard that is completely black topped and deals primarily in BMWs, and Mercedes, owns a 3 rack frame shop, and a new auto body center, Used to own an H1, owns a Mercedes Wagon, a Mercedes SUV, a 2009 completely custom FORD 3500 Harley Crew Cab pickup, and a Chevy 2500 Silverado.

My brother is an atourney and drives a Mercedes Custom AMG and his Atourney wife drives a convertible SAAB,

My sister drives an Acura Legend.

They all use Escorts now and Danny the farmer used to have a Radar Jammer as well.

I don't think any of this makes you or myself more qualified then anyone else posting, but you started a pissing contest of expensive cars and I think this trumps the h@ll out of your BMWs.

As for the Radar Jammer, Danny has a friend who is a State Trooper, and the Jammer did make it unable for him to get a lock on Dannys speed, but the Jammer broke after only 6 months, was expensive, and some states have laws affecting the use of Jammers specifically.

It should also be known that a Radar Jammer is going to do nothing to lasr, and Laser is common in alot of areas. Also, they have designed a new varriable frequency radar that standard radar detectors will not be able to pick up on, but these units will be cost prohibitive for a while. (and to think that what I drive has nothing to do with me knowing about the new variable radar!!!)

How does the Valentine work when you are being mechanically clocked by an airplane?

JJK

JJK,

They don't work for airplanes, neither does the Escort or the Jammer. The best defense against planes is a CB and paying attention to how the semis are driving. Luckily for you and I, we live in Ohio, and they only fly the planes in great weather, only use planes in certain areas, and then a bike, convertible, or sun roof helps.
