m.perrin
I need a solid home theatre receiver for under 700 dollars. I have a sony Str da1es, but it fails to work some of the time. Hopefully, i have some Heresys on the way for my new mains, so it will need to be able to drive those. Thoughts?
willland
M.perrin. Is HDMI a requirement? Many mid to high end non-HDMI receivers for sale on audiogon.com. I love my NAD T773. It is the best sounding HT receiver I have ever heard. Great for HT and rivals seperates for 2-channel. Here is one for sale. http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?miscrcvr&1289332064&/NAD-T773-Excellent-Condition Another excellent choice and with HDMI from a reputable merchant. http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/MARSR7002A/Marantz/Sr7002-Receiver-Thx-110w-X-7ch-Hdmi-Home-Theater-Surround/1.html Bill
m.perrin
Wow! that NAD T773 looks fantastic! I will definitely consider going the non-hdmi route. As for the Marantz SR7002 you mentioned, how does it compare to the Onkyo TX-SR706: http://hometheaterreview.com/onkyo-tx-sr706-thx-certified-seven-channel-av-receiver/
Fish
$700 and non hdmi? I dunno...for $700 I'd get hdmi just for future needs. There are lots of avrs out there that do good HT, if you care for music you may have to try several different makes in your house.HK and Marantz are two mainstream units that do decent music, imo.Good Luck
jjennings2510
I'm an Onkyo fan and I see you mentioned the 706......well the updated model is the 708. Onkyo makes great receivers as well and they use Audessey which does a great job at setting up your speakers for you. The 708 is on Amazon for a great price. $549!!! Thats a great deal. here is the link http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003N197CU/ref=cm_cd_asin_lnk
Rick
I am selling my Pioneer Elite VSX-23TXH receiver for $600 (shipping included). It is in mint condition. Sounds great with movies and music IMO. Here is my post with a link to info from Pioneer: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/140239.aspx
willland
As for the Marantz SR7002 you mentioned, how does it compare to the Onkyo TX-SR706 Like the NAD, the Marantz will give you better 2-channel performance, IMO. I also am a big Onkyo fan. My TX-SR705 has been rock solid reliable and is great for HT but does not have the depth and seperation for music that the NAD has. The amp section in the NAD T773 is very "un-receiver like" and would probably drive just about any speaker you threw at it. To be fair, the T773 was NAD's flagship receiver in 2004 and my Onlyo TX-SR705 is only a mid level model. Truthfully, all three would be good choices and have preouts so you could add an outboard amp later if desired. Bill
m.perrin
Im really leaning towards the Marantz. I just Have to purchase those Heresy's and see what kind of cash i have left over. Thanks for all of the help! Any other input is, of course, welcome!
Stolenrs
just to through in my 2 cents, I have had really great performance with my Intergra DTR 6.6, it dose not have HDMI but does have preouts, I saw several on Ebay from 200 - 500.00. Just make sure check the model number there are some that do not have preouts, I think 5.8 and above come with them. ~ross
sbryan
I've had an Onkyo and three Marantz receivers. I just got the new SR7005 and it is awesome with my Reference 3 speakers in a 7.1 arrangement and the HSU subwoofer. The Marantz sound matches perfectly with the Klipsch horns. Ave Bona Cornwall
You can get incredible steals on brand new Marantz units right now, since theyare coming outwith the new models. The old ones were going for full retail until a month or 2 ago, and now they are selling for 1/2 what they were 3 months ago. I love mine...a nice warm sound w/ my cornwalls.
