HT processor ideas?

Recommended Posts

I'm casually looking on the internet for some ideas for the future.

I don't have a HT processor at home so one day...

Qualifications and must haves: (if it doesn't have it, no need to list it)

1. XLR outputs
2. At least two HDMI outputs. Two would probably suffice in case there are brands with more.

What are some good brands to start educating myself?

If you have the big coin($4000.00+), Anthem is the cream of the crop. Top dog for music, HT, and their ARC auto EQ is said to be among the best if not the best.

Just to get an idea what the Anthem goes for used.

You can't go wrong with the Integra DHC-80.2 or 80.3 or the Onkyo PR-SC5508 or 5509. All have your top two requirements and Audyssey MultEQ XT32.

I love my new NAD T175HD I just bought but it does not have your #1 and #2 qualifications. Though there is a module available for option #2.

This looks like a great deal if you want to get something used

It's an Onkyo PR-SC886 for $625, I have no connection to the seller but I do have the previous year PR-SC885 and absolutely love it, excellent for both HT and 2 channel.

Here is a link to Onkyo's PR-SC886 info page http://www.onkyopro.com/model.cfm?m=PR-SC886P&class=Preamplifier&p=i

In any case I don't think you can go wrong with any of the Onkyo processors new or used. The Onkyo link will also lead to any other of their processors as well, new or previous models.

Just out of curiosity, why is XLR outputs a must?

I biamp the Jubilee's and the active crossover (Electrovoice Dx38) has XLR inputs which currently forces me to mix RCA and XLR wires. I'm wanting to have an XLR food chain from preamp to poweramp to avoid that.
