Here it is direct from the Emo site....

What is Upgrade For Life, and how does it work?

It’s really simple. Purchase a processor from Emotiva and become a discount holder for life*. As an original owner of a Generation 3 Emotiva processor (UMC-200, XMC-1, and beyond) or generation 2 upgrade certificate, you will receive 25% off any processor model we sell, whether it’s a current model in stock, or a distant model in the future.

How is this different than your "Upgrade Certificate" program?

Unlike the Upgrade Certificate program, there are no cards, certificates, or coupons to hold onto. After the 30-day trial period on the processor you purchased to qualify for the Upgrade for Life Program, we’ll send you a notification in the mail that you are eligible. Then, simply call or email us to place your next processor order at 25% off the standard price.

Definitely want to hear your reports, I'm on the list.....and not yet convinced.

I was on the fence even though I had zero problems with my umc 1.

I had my 40% card and that is what swayed me.

So far I think I made the right choice

I have a card too, staring me in the face here on my desk.....but still going to sit back for a bit and see what transpires....looking forward to your impressions.

I have got the basic stuff set up. Have not done any PEQ work yet as I am still learning the menu and set up system. Set up is a little tough at first till you get the hang of the menu system, after that things move along very quickly for the basic set up stuff. The more advanced stuff is going to take me a little

longer (Come on Dirac) but this is what I can say so far. I will break this down into my sources I have used so far and report on each one I have used. Most of this will be subjective so your mileage may vary as they say!!! My xmc replaced

my umc so am using it as my baseline.

1 LP using a xps-1

Love it!! Just pure clear music, better dynamic range and it sounds like a

veil was lifted on the mid/high bands.Bass is solid with out being to heavy.

The mid/high area on my cornscalls was a little bright for me with the umc,

but the xmc is just natural clean sound. The xmc was set in stereo mode with my subs active. Overall with the few set up changes I have made I give a A+.

2 RTR

I have a pretty good reel deck and I really enjoy spinning the reels, almost

as much as a good LP. No hiss no nothing,I come back to the mid/high area

again as it sounds as natural as anything I have heard to date.

Will give it 2 thumbs up for tape playing.

3 CD just awesome, pure sound with no shout or hiss. Every detail of the music just comes thru with nothing added or taken away. Tried some older CD's that

were not the best recordings and they just sounded great. At this point I was

very impressed with the DAC's in this unit.

4 Bluray

Tried a few of my favorites most were DTS encoded. Detail is just

awesome everything was exactly where it should be. Biggest change I have

noticed was in the center, vocals just clean and clear, way better than the

umc.

This is all I have had time to try out will update this as I learn more.

Hope it sounds better than the umc-1 only took 29 years to finish.

I second that....kept waiting and waiting and finally ...it was a POS....Does this one come with an upgrade card???

Emotiva was slick when they dropped the price on the UMC-1 and added no returns , they new it was a pos .

Glad to hear you are pleased with the performance of the XMC-1 over the UMC-1.  I owned the UMC-1 and thought 2ch sounded very nice but for HT, like you said, the center was never really that clear.  I found the EmoQ to be pretty much useless and I wasn't sure how to adjust the 12 band EQ to get it to sound better.  I prefer a good auto calibration software to do that part for me.  Post more thoughts as you spend more time with it.  Pics are always welcome as well.

Here is a pic, not that good my camera sucks. Played around with the subs today

and got a very nice surprise!!!

I have been using 2 WO32 subs driven by my upa200 for music duty for a while.

Have loved the tight hit from these for music, but they just won't go deep

enough for HT duty on some of the low LFE stuff. I had a DEF tech 15 in my

bedroom that plays low and loud, but sounded to BOOMY to me in my HT.

I put it back into the HT system, and decided to see what I could do with the

xmc to get it to play nice with the WO32. I first tried dual mono set up and

could not get the bass to sound right to me. I then tried a trick I read on

the emotive forum. I switched the xmc to stereo subs and set up each sub

independently then switched it back to dual mono.Just WOW it worked!!

I now have my tight hit plus my deep LFE without the BOOM!!

Only major gripe so far is the trigger issue on my upa500, but that fix is

in the works per Emotiva.

Did you have to re-program your remote control (assuming that you had some sort of Universal Remote Control)... or did the settings from your prior UMC-1 still work with the XMC?

I have a harmony remote and they do not have the codes listed for the xmc yet.

I have heard that most of the umc codes will work, but I have not tried them yet.

I am just using the Emotiva remote for now.
