DizRotus
My son just got a Dot. He already hooked it up to his h/k 430 receiver powering Heresy speakers. He sent a link to a video where he asks Alexa to play Take Five via Spotify. Then he asks Alexa to raise and then lower the volume of the 430. Now his vintage receiver has a voice activated remote.Who has experience with these or similar voice activated devices? What are the advantages of one over another? The Dot is half the cost of Echo, but seems to do a lot. What can the Echo or Tap do to justify the premium prices? The Dude
If you were to have a media server connected to you network. Could you say, Alexa play music from my media server?

Based on what I saw and heard from the h/k 430, I'd guess yes, but I want more information. Edited April 14, 2016 by DizRotus

DizRotus
Here is a link to the video my son made. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4dvFdeWGDdqdTFwNmZSN3c1TFU/view?usp=docslist_api He can now control the music playing on his h/k 430 powered Heresy system. I think I need one one of these. I just need to decide which version will best suit my needs. Edited May 3, 2016 by DizRotus
rockhound
Agree I think these are cool The Jetsons! What Bluetooth receiver did he use for the 430?
DizRotus
What Bluetooth receiver did he use for the 430 A logitech. http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Wireless-Speaker-Adapter-Bluetooth/dp/B004VM1T5S?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage I've used the Logitech and this one: http://www.amazon.com/Harman-Kardon-External-Bluetooth-Adapter/dp/B009CA7G92?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage I have a slight preference for the Harman-Kardon unit. I've also had good results with the SURE unit in DIY boomboxes. http://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-v4-0-Audio-Receiver-Board/dp/B00HFG8G7Q?ie=UTF8&keywords=sure%20bluetooth&qid=1462247951&ref_=sr_1_1&s=electronics&sr=1-
Marvel
One of my former co-workers has two of the echo units. He turn lights on and off, plays music, changes tv channels... and loves them. Bruce
rockhound
Thansk for the info. I really dont NEED this thing but I'm a sucker for tech!
DizRotus
According to my son, the main difference between the Echo and his Dot is that the Echo has "better" speakers that he compares to a Bose Wave Radio. It is meant for people that aren't hooking it up to control a real stereo, such as his h/k 430/Heresy system. If you want to listen to Spotify through the device, get an Echo, otherwise the Dot seems to work as well. He compares the sound of music played via the Dot to most Bluetooth speakers. I'm ordering a Dot, or two.
rockhound
Yes the dot would fit my needs. However I have a fire stick with non voice and even though I'm a prime member I can't order one which is retarded.
