klipschhornfan
Any info on these drivers? The woofer looks a bit odd to me without a magnet sticking out. Are they alnico? Thanks.
DizRotus
That woofer was made by Electro-Voice. It’s an excellent woofer. I’ll trade you for original Heresy woofers not made by E-V. On second thought, I couldn’t sleep if I took advantage of you like that. If you have a pair of speakers, do the both have that woofer? klipschhornfan
Are the K22 woofer and K55V mid both alnico?
Frzninvt
Yes they are, the woofer is an Electro-Voice EVM-12 made for Klipsch. The cast frame for that woofer may look large but the magnet hidden under the cover is small the surround is usually red. Those are an early set of Heresy's. DizRotus
I don’t think either has an “Alnico” magnet. More important, I wouldn’t care. The attached photo shows the inside of one of my HIP. The round magnet K-77 tweeter is Alnico. I would gladly trade the pair for a pair of square magnet K-77s that are not Alnico, but even better would be a pair of Crites CT-110 or CT-120. Don’t be mesmerized by the word “Alnico.” Notice the similarity of the cast frame woofer to your cast frame woofer. To the best of my knowledge, both were made by EV. IMO, they are more desirable than the stamped steel offerings. Am I correct Claude @ClaudeJ1?
DizRotus
I defer to @Frzninvt regarding the magnet material in the drivers, but my lack of blind enthusiasm for “Alnico” remains.

The woofer in your photo is an EVM-12L, the best of the the best, IMHO. It's what I had in my original Super Heresys.
klipschhornfan
Are these drivers all alnico? Thanks.
DizRotus
Probably. I’d say the tweeter and woofer are, but I don’t know about the squawker. Why do you care about Alnico? You might want to check out the 2003 threads below.
Frzninvt
That is a really old K-55 midrange driver I have not seen many like that over the years. I am reasonably certain it is alnico that pair is from the 60's I cannot make out the letter that is stamped into the wood with the rest of the S/N though. JohnA
HIPs had EV EVM-12L woofers. the white cast woofer above was used in H700s and is an EV SP-12B, an excellent woofer. I have 2 late 60s H700 with Type C xovers and those EV woofers.
