Coytee
Yesterday, I was walking the dog and see a couple mounds. Not sure what it was at first, it looked like Caviar.... looking closer it was undulating so poked it with a stick and they seemed drunk as Cootie Brown. I just "knew" they'd swarm the stick but were totally disinterested. Today, walk by and they're all dead. AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW...... Anyone have a clue what happened? This is on more than one mound, almost like they all were using the Mayan calendar and had the same expiration date. (I DO drop Amdro on them but can't believe they'd all die the say way the same day) Thoughts?? 1
oldtimer
Once the queen dies from the amdro the mound dies. 1
Coytee
You sure it wasn't some of your hot sauce?? Usually when I see the mound die, it kind of flattens out and just withers away. I've never seen the pool of cadavers strewn around the top. In fairness...I can't say that I really look that closely at the mounds. I just notice "some time later" that they're flat and presume they've died. This is kind of weird however, I admit that I kind of like seeing the carnage. Gilbert
When ants die their scent changes because the corpse releases something called oleic acid. So the living bring out their dead to prevent a contamination that might harm the queen or the rest of the colony.
