glens
USB "out" from the computer will (should) be un-manipulated by the computer, thus sound quality would (should) be purely that of the amp's guts. Using the line or headphone out from the computer may be a degradation of what's otherwise available from the source. It would certainly do in a pinch, but I'd not build a system upon a pinch's doings.
billybob
Was thinking more like optical/coax to USB yet, unless there is a suitable alternative, and using a built in DAC, there Could be a happy marriage. Of course, there are external DAC alternative s. . .
tigerwoodKhorns
use the optical in. There are USB to optical adapters, I have been using one for about 15 years.

Mmcaleer
My head is spinning with all of the receiver options. I keep changing my mind the more I read and research. What I did in the interim is purchase a Schiit Modi 3 DAC and connected it to my MAC, then to an older Pioneer VSX-517 receiver I had in my son's room. With having the external DAC I have more amplifier options to choose from. I was thinking of the following now. 1. Jolida JD-1501BRC This does have a tube pre-amp stage 2. Outlaw Audio RR2160 3. Cambridge Audio CXA60 or CXA80. These are the older ones which was replaced by the CXA61 and CXA81. 3. NAD C326BEE 4. Yamaha A-S501 or A-S701 I would love to find an affordable tube amp. Mike Let me complicate things a little more. Below is a beast(48.5 pounds) of an integrated amp. Analog only so your new DAC can get some use. I have owned my A-S1000 for over 4 years and it has performed beautifully. https://tmraudio.com/components/integrated-amplifiers/yamaha-a-s1000-stereo-integrated-amplifier-as1000-mm-mc-phono-no-remote/ Below is a great deal for a powerful amp. https://www.audiogon.com/listings/lis9i5ca-nad-c375bee-solid-state Another very fine integrated amp. https://tmraudio.com/components/integrated-amplifiers/marantz-pm8004-stereo-integrated-amplifier-pm-8004-remote-1/ Bill
