rf7iii pair towers and rc64iii center. Need to know what kind of set up with amp and pre amp or how that works and which brands and power per channel to go with?

First off I would like to say that I am a big klipsch Enthusiast and I bought my first Klipsch Soundsystem about 10 years ago or so with my brother and I Love the sound and wouldn’t go anywhere else for they are superb but I’m sure other brands have amazing sounding speaker aswell. Since then though I decided to upgrade and I’m upgrading to the RF7 threes floor standing speakers and then the RC 64 three center and then I’m gonna have my old RF 52ii as my surrounds and I’m gonna have an SVSPB 16 ultra as my subwoofer. I talked to somebody from Klipsch and they recommended the following,  “getting the XPA-3 Gen 3 from Emotiva for the front three speakers.  You will need a receiver that has pre amp outputs for the Front Left, Right and Center channel.  The receiver will need to have at least 100W per channel at 8 ohms.  I can't recommend a specific receiver, but we recommend Denon, Yamaha, and Onkyo.” OK so basically I was just trying to make a thread on this form to see if you guys could help me in a more detailed manner. I was just wondering if that specific XPA Three GEN three from Emotiva Would be a good choice to go with?  And what receiver would be a good choice to go with? and is that emotiva a receiver an amp or pre amp sorry I’m not too savy with the science and lingo with what goes into the inner working or sound of music lol. And yeah just basically what would be a good set up for those speakers do you know what receiver what preamp what amp would be best or combination of both or all three to use they’re supposed to be very efficient speaker but I talk to the people from Klipsch and they said their large speakers and they’re actually less efficient than they say and do Actually take slot of power Especially when you turn those bad boys up which is what I’m gonna do. they are I just don’t want to go over kill with the receiver and spend more money than I need to and you know not use all the watts. Price range is about 100- 2500 maybe some wiggle room in there if it’s just the perfect items for the system.  I want good clean power and I want to get the most out of my speakers. I will be using them in surround mode sometimes so all the speaker all 5. I will also be using them in just stereo mode somethings and something I will just be using the front three speakers. Thank you guys so much for you time and energy stay safe out there and love to all. Keep on rockin.

I have the Emotiva XPA-3 Gen 3 on my front three. Mine are series 2 not 3(you lucky dog). The Emotiva is a power amp only. That's why you need pre outs from your receiver to feed into it. Having the separate power amp for the front 3 really allows you turn them up and the receivers power amps can be reserved to power the surround channels when you're doing more than just the front 3. Hope that makes sense.

What kind of receiver Are you using or would you recommend? cause with my old receiver I don’t have those pre outs or what not, it is an Integra dtr 20.3

Thank you bill. Ok the receiver I just don’t think I’m gonna need that many channels at the most I think I would use a 7.2 channel receiver casue I already have 2 floor standing speakers 2 surround speakers 1 center which is basically going to be obsolete because I’m upgrading it to the rc64iii unless I can find some other way to integrate it into my system and now 2 subwoofers which is the svs pb16 ultra and my klipsch sw112 which isn’t working right now but I got a new amp for it and am trying to hook it up but forget which wires go where do I’m waiting till Monday to call up klipsch lol. Also they are saying that receiver is out of stock. So if I’m not including my other center that would be a 7.2 system cause I do Intend on getting my sw112 up and working and still I might only stick to a 5.2 system and just leave out my old surround speakers but none the less they are nice speakers and I would hate for them to go to waste and just collect dust.  but I just don’t know what would be best with these rf7iii speakers. Basically what ever you guys think would be better and sound better and go with the bad boys. I don’t want the rb51ii to get drowned out by the rf7iii maybe I’m just being stupid. But I’m getting off topic, the m you so much for the recommendations so far but do you have any more recommendations for the power amp or a receiver. I’m quite sold on the emotiva but trying to do more research. I was told that anthem mrx 520 is nice cause it has arc which dials in all your sound. also quick question so say I would get the emotiva power amp and it’s giving my front three most important speaker extra power when I get a receiver will I still need to get a 5.2 receiver if I was wanting to have a 5 speaker set up even tho that power amp is powering the front three speakers. Sorry this is all just kind of confusing to me and I’m trying to figure out how it all works and my speakers are getting here soon, I want to get the proper equipment so I can really get a lot out of them cause my receiver now I don’t think will really cut it Especially if I want to crank this system up.

First my friend, you have to break these sentences up into paragraphs so it is more legible.:o:biggrin:

Most upper mid level AVRs, with exception of a select few, will be a minimum 7.2 configuration.

Not stupid at all.  Your L-C-R will carry the brunt of the information and will not drown out your surrounds.

The power amp will provide the "amplification" to your L-C-R, and not the "pre-amplification".  The AVRs L-C-R preouts send voltage to the amplifier's inputs and then on to your speakers.

@David y, where is your location?  Maybe a very informed and helpful forum member would drop by to give you hand.

I couldn't believe until I saw it for myself. Pre outs only for the rear surrounds and subs. Strange. Anyway I have a Marantz 7007 but only because it came as a package deal with the RF7s. They practically gave it to me, I think it was $550 or something like that. It is OK sound wise, but No standard FM radio only HD and no way to adjust volume between the channels on the fly only overall volume. When it gives up I will get a full Pre/Pro and have all separate amps. But for now with the Emotiva doing the hard lifting on the front 3 the Marantz is running the surrounds just fine. I will say this no matter what AVR you choose buy a couple spare remotes while they are still available. Put them in a drawer for the future when the one that comes with the unit dies.

David,

I have RF7-IIIs and a RC-64III. I also have  an XPA-5 gen 2. I bought the gen 2 because I could get one in great condition for $700 less than the gen 3 would have cost.

I am running a Marantz AV8802a pre-pro over XLR cables.

The Emotiva is excellent for HT duty. The sound is slightly polite, which IMO is a benefit for movies. I have other amps I prefer for music, but if I could only have one amp, I would be happy with the XPA-5.

I’m currently trying to take a picture of the back of my receiver but it says the max upload is 2mb and it won’t let me.

@David y I got a picture of it right from Integra's website. I was not saying that I don't believe you.

And yea maybe email the picture to yourself and let the email program downsize it, that is what i always have to do to post pics here. There are other compacting programs out there.

Not really a grammar issue for me just hard to follow when everything runs together.

Most decent AVRs these days are Atmos and DTS:X capable.

Maybe Re-title this thread with "New Indy Forum Member Needs In Person Guidance With New HT Setup".  There should be plenty of folks willing drop by when you are ready to set it all up.

Would be appreciated cause I could use the help. I bought my speakers from audio solutions and they’re going to be doing the instal also. But it would really help to have a knowledgeable friendly person come on in and help. My brother knew a lot more about the science of music and everything that went into it and all that jazz but he passed away about a week ago so it’s just been really difficult dealing with that and trying to get my system up and running properly. But when I do get it up and running in the proper manner I’m gonna blast some music so even he can hear it and do a good send off for him and play some songs we always use to listen to together. We were gonna listen to them together but he passed away before I got them..thank you guys for your help much appreciated!

Really saddened to hear this.  Hang in there brother.
