Just found this board. Old vs. new

Hey all. Just found this board and wasn't sure which part of the forum to put this in , but ....

Old school rocker and audiophile . Purchased my Heresey's from Modern Music ( Memphis Tn)in 1980. The label on the rear calls them simply " Heresey" / HBR. The trademark date says @ 1980.

These have the birch finish that I added the Tongue oil to, to liven up the grains. Love my speakers and they are in perfect condition. ( never moved and always maintained)

After reading the board they are matched ( ser #156Y303-304). My question here is ... ( First I love the response and tones no matter if it is classical, jazz , or rock) Did I happen to purchase some really nice speakers that may have retained their original value or did I get something that is not quite old enough to really be " the good ones" ? I am happy either way but just curious. I can take a pic of the labels if it would help to determine exactly what the "Klipsch" world can determine.

curious in Memphis

Mempho,

Welcome to the board!!!

The fellow that I suspect built your speakers is a regular on this board. He will probably be your best source on the finer points of construction on your speakers. There are also many knowledegable folks here on all Klipsch heritage speakers.

Unfortunately, I have newer models designed for home theater, hence I can't answer your question. Be patient and you will get amazing answers here about heritage speakers.

Welcome again.

Bill

MM,

You have some really nice speakers, and they probably have held their value. Depending on condition, they sell for $300 to $600 a pair on ebay.

I have a pair of 78 Heresy's that I use for center channel in my HT and I really like the sound, for the size.

Enjoy them, and welcome to the forum.

IMHO all of the Heresys except the last couple years production, and the very earliest ones which used University squawker driver and tweeter, sound remarkably alike. I think the best are the ones with the K-55-V squawker driver and K-77-M tweeter. I believe that is what you have. The tweeter has a little bit better high end response than the earlier K-77. The last couple years production used K-52-H and K-53-K squawker drivers, which don't sound quite the same. They sound more like Heresys II to me. But all of the Heresys are very nice sounding speakers. They have the Heritage sound and are the baby brother of the Klipschorn. Enjoy!

Thank you all for your responding to my questions. And Yes . I do love the sound that they produce. In fact , I have added and subtracted from the system itself over close to the 20 yrs that I have owned them(and never opened them), but have always built around these speakers. At one time I even configured a way to play a guitar through them. Now that things technically have gone digital it just keeps getting better and better.

So well , I have a friend in his 60's that has a walnut pair of the same dating that I am trying to talk him into selling them to me. Kinda like to try my hand at a little HT with nothing but Klipsch.

I suppose the question is whether there was a very early Heresy which was better than the later incarnations. I haven't seen any comments that the earlier ones are better, or worse. They are all basically the same except, perhaps, for a change in the crossover.

Alternately, better or not, is there a collector's market for early equipment, which drives up the price. I haven't seen that either.

I think like a lot of things it is what your used to. Barring what klipsch changed from time to time.. I think you will find the Heresy I's not II's are more natural and more prefered by most on this board. They are also a better match to other Klipsch - k horns, Belles, La Scala's and Cornwalls too.

Glad you like em too.

Originally I was powering these with the Pioneer seperates.( Spec 1 and Spec 4) I had the "rack" system that I purchased in Japan.

Tuner .. TX7500

Eq ... SG9500

Dynamic Processor .. RG-1

Pre .. Spec 1

Amp ... Spec 4

T/T ... Marantz 6300

I even brought a Sansui Receiver back as well. 9090DB

Switched between the Sansui and the rack until I decided which one I liked best. Had a second pair of speakers that were an off shoot. Nothing special. It is all old school equipment but I was able to mix and match until I got what I liked . The store in Japan was little more than a warehouse where you could plug and play any combination until you were happy.

AAB3RD,

My questions to you, would be, would you be willing to seperate the two pairs and how much are you asking for them? Another question would be the what condition are they in? Bolivar is not that far of a ride and that is a plus. Since I found this BB I have been researching some of the equipment that I have. I have found lots of interesting information and comments.

Let me know ...
