JLAether
Hello, my wife and I are renovating one room on our first floor and plan on turning it into a theatre. It's about 15' long by 12' wide with 9' ceilings. My current plan is to go with the following equipment: LG C9 65" TV (already owned) Denon AVR-X3700H receiver (already owned) Klipsch RP-8000F left & right Klipsch RP-504C center SVS PB-1000 Pro sub Klipsch RP-600M surrounds Klipsch RP-600M rear surrounds x4 Klipsch R-1650-CSM in-ceiling Atmos My main concerns are whether or not I should switch out the four RP-600M surrounds for RP-500M since I feel the 600Ms are a little overkill for surrounds and whether or not I should bother with the RP-8000F towers instead of putting RP-600Ms in the front and adding a second sub. A second sub could come eventually anyway but I'm concerned about how much space everything is going to take up in the room. The room is going to be used for movies and TV about 90% of the time and with that, a lot of it is streamed and 5.1 which is why I'm unsure if I should save the money on the surrounds even though I know the Denon receiver can do a pretty good job of upmixing to the absent channels. What do you all think? Edit: As a side question, someone local to me is selling a pair of basically open box RP-8060FAs for $750. The upfiring Atmos speaker in each would go unused but the value seems to good to pass up. Would those be a good choice for my mains? billybob
Some of your idea and questions show your energy in getting it right. Others will or may differ, can be done with which. First impressions are the size of the room versus how busy the room will be with a full complement of surround speakers. Let's see what the HT crowd Is thinking. Welcome @JLAether...
MikeyJ
JLAether, I have a slightly larger room (14x22x8) with the same receiver, RP-6000Fs up front with the RP-504C, RP-500Ms as surrounds & it's been my xp that the 500Ms are more than adequate for surrounds, mine are about 6.5' away from the MLP. I can't speak on the RP-8000F but the 6000F I have are impressive, I could not go back to bookshelf speakers as my fronts after experiencing the towers. Some food for thought: I think you're going to need an external amp I believe. The 3700H can PROCESS 11 channels but can only power 9 if I remember right. You might consider a 3 channel amp to power the LCR & then you're good to go. If that $750 is for a PAIR of 8060FA you should probably run and do that.
billybob
If get the 8060FA would use the Atmos for front, 2 rear in ceiling for the same. Go with 1 pair of the 500s for rear. Then see how it sounds. You have options like you presented. More opinions will be coming.
JLAether
Thanks for the help so far! $750 was for the pair of RP-8060FAs but I think I've ruled them out. It's a great deal but ultimately, I think I'll splurge once for the RP-8000Fs rather than potentially regret my decision later on. And yes, the Denon AVR-X3700H can process 11 channels but can only power 9. I'll have a separate "crappy" amp for the second set of Atmos speakers since they require very little power. I think I'm just about set though I'm still wondering about the RP-600M vs RP-500M for the surrounds. I think I'll get the 600Ms if I can get a good deal on them. This won't be the final room for everything as it's our first "starter" house. I'm still dreaming about that proper projector theatre. 😉
Tom05
The Rp8000f are excellent speakers , good choice. 🤓

The RP-8000Fs, the SVS PB-1000 Pro, and the four R-1650-CSM ceiling speakers have been ordered! Still waiting for some deals on the receiver, center channel, and I'm still deciding on the surrounds. At this point, I'm leaning towards RP-500Ms for the center surrounds and possibly even RP-502S dipoles as the rear surrounds. Does anyone have any experience in that configuration?
billybob
Well usually surrounds go on sides. And another poster above thought the 500m's over the 600s. In any case, you are progressing...
Dr Morbius
Why pick another company for the subwoofer. Wouldn’t the Klipsch R-120SW (for instance) sound and look better than the SVS woofer? Just wondering?
joeh4384
Personally I would go with a bigger sub or 2 of them. On 4/19/2022 at 10:54 AM, Dr Morbius said: Why pick another company for the subwoofer. I replaced my SPL120 with a PC2000 pro and it is a sizeable difference at low frequencies.
Schu
I think the 8060's are smokin, you should definitely go that way. so you're planning on going with a 5.1? I've also been looking at a 8060 5.1 system but using the RP502s for the rear/sides. I think are some deals to be had possibly.
