Anyone bi amp a Forte using different amps?

Recommended Posts

Wondering if it's possible to run main SS amp to low end and pre amp out of main amp to tube amplifier to run to high end?

I would imagine I may need to tweak for gain perhaps but maybe impedance or slew rate could foul me up?

Or something else I'm not thinking of...

Male a diagram with specs for the amps, pre amp and speakers

and post it here.

Someone more knowledgeable than me can tell you if it's safe.

Do the Fortes already have bi-amp capability or do the crossovers have to be modified or replaced ?

My 2 cents

I have Forte 1's with a Dynaco ST-70 on the mids/highs and a Pioneer SX-1980 driving the woofers.

Very impressive, chest thumping bass with the Pioneer and smooth upper end with the Dynaco.

No tweeking needed, I even tied my SVS subwoofer in the mix.

Very nice Setup! I've got Forte 1s as well and am planning to try Bi-amping soon... Are you running the stock crossovers? I've thought about upgrading my stock ones to Crites (copper, silver or gold?) and having him do the bi-amp version for me. If can be done on stock ones, I'd maybe try it...

I replaced the caps and physically seperated the crossover into two seperate crossovers and reused the inductors and terminal cup.

The problem with the early version of the Forte 1's is that they crammed the crossover on the back of the terminal cup which caused some slight warping due to heat when played at higher volumes.

You have some very impressive equipment in your setup.

All you need is additional speaker wire and a means to independently adjust the gain between the two amps.

Your SS amp is more than capable of unleashing the full potential of the Forte's.  Combined with a tube amp could be the icing on the cake.

I would be interested in your impression/results of bi-amping.

I tried bi-amping my Forte IIIs with a D-class amp for the bass and and Amp Camp A-class for mid and high. Also tried it with a Marantz 1060 for mid/high. I may not have had things set up correctly, but I personally prefer using just the ACA.
