Contest - Most Over the Top Ridiculous Audio Claim

What is the most patently stupid / dishonest / unbelieveable / just plain dumb claim you've seen for an audio "tweek" product? I just had to ask, having found this courtesy of the No Annoying Horn Sound! thread lower down in this forum...

knobc.jpg

And the quote describing it:

"Good vibrations, Bad vibrations its all about vibrations!! RAM would like to introduce a new signature level knob developed for the mighty Silver Rock potentiometer. The standard bakelite knob is certainly the best sounding compromise... but now Audio Consulting has taken this aspect of the Silver Rock much further. The new knobs are custom made with beech wood and bronze where the bronze is used as the insert to mount to the stem of the volume pot. The beech wood is coated several times with C37 lacquer for best sound as pointed out by Dieter Ennemoser. How can this make a difference??? Well, hearing is believing as we always say. The sound becomes much more open and free flowing with a nice improvement in resolution. Dynamics are better and overall naturalness is improved. Here is a test for all you Silver Rock owners. Try removing the bakelite knobs and listen. You will be shocked by this! The signature knobs will have an even greater effectreally amazing! The point here is the micro vibrations created by the volume pots and knobs find their way into the delicate signal path and cause degradation (Bad vibrations equal bad sound). With the signature knobs micro vibrations from the C37 concept of wood, bronze and the lacquer itself compensate for the volume pots and provide (Good Vibrations) our ear/brain combination like to hearway better sound!!"

Cost? This LITTLE WOODEN KNOB costs $485

My favorite is the Rainbow Foil. Problem is, it's only $30 for 400 strips, so it lacks the ridiculously expensive element:

*****We believe that human beings have retained in some imperceptible way the primordial ability, acquired by life forms throughout early evolution as a survival mechanism, of recognizing threats of danger in the environment as energy patterns. When faced with such energy patterns, life forms then and now "go on the alert" or become "alarmed." As a result of empirical research, we have concluded that modern objects such as electronic devices, electrical equipment and plastics, are reproducing these energy patterns. In response to this, human beings have developed a way of modifying their physiological state so that we are able to live surrounded by these objects. In this suppressed physiological state we are unable to hear the subtleties of sound. Further more, through the work of Rupert Sheldrake and his theory of "Morphic Resonance" we believe all objects are "linked" and therefore, all adverse energy patterns are "linked." Our products incorporate beneficial energy patterns which when attached to an object, negate the adverse energy patterns and superimpose beneficial "friendly" energy patterns. Our physiological state is then able to "relax" and we are able to appreciate the subtleties of sound. The more objects you "treat" the greater the liberating effect on our physiological state, and the greater the perceived improvement in sound quality.

We believe the veracity of the theory can be "proved" very simply by attaching one of our products (e.g. a small strip of Silver Rainbow Foil) to an object in the listening environment not related to the audio system and experiencing/perceiving an improvement in the quality of the sound. Such an object (and this is only one example) could be the battery (or batteries) inside a remote control unit for a television or video. If an improvement is heard, there doesn't seem to be an adequate "conventional" explanation for it.*****

How about this:

Brilliant Pebbles is a unique room and system tuning device for improving the performance of any audio system. Brilliant Pebbles is a 3-inch glass bottle that contains a variety of minerals and semi-precious stones; highly specialized preparation/assembly techniques contribute significantly to its effectiveness. Brilliant Pebbles effectively converts unwanted mechanical and acoustic vibration to thermal energy. A bottle is usually effective on/above each output transformer of tube amps, on top of CD and SACD players above the transport section and on top of solid state amps above the output section. When placed on the floor in room corners (two corners are sufficent to produce very good results), Brilliant Pebbles reduces comb filter effects produced by high sound pressure levels in room corners. Price $99 each.

This is similar to Jim's tweak, using different shape and size amber to eliminate coloration and vibrations on and inside your audio components...see this web review:

http://www.1388.com/articles/10_decade.htm

No thanks! No amount of amber beads placed strategically on top or inside my components will convince me of increased soundstage and clarity of tone (plus you'll have to beat your wife or girlfriend every time she reaches for them to wear as jewelry after you've spent an entire afternoon placing these stones around and on top of one another...don't let your cat jump up on your components, or dust them off each week with a dust cloth)!

Those knobs are produced naturally without resort to such frivolities as science and common sense and yet you dare to sneer ??

SilClear

I dabbed our brand new, silver-saturated, hyper conductive contact lube on the AC plug of my $99 boom box. Then I dabbed it on every plug and lug of a $100,000 dream system. Stunning results on both! For 3 cents a plug, violins gained a gloriously sweet sheen. Delicate acoustic guitar overtones stood unveiled. The scream of over-driven electric guitars cut through with extra edge and punch. Floor beams shivered with the new impact of contrabass, organ and tympani.

Silclear is the first-ever silver contact lube optimized for good sound, not thermal conductivity. The secret is microscopically thin silver platelets (a millionth inch thin; 8 square feet of surface per gram!) to enhance beneficial skin effect. The unique binder for these platelets is an ultra-pure, low dielectric absorption, food-grade grease to minimize signal loss/smearing. The thinnest possible coating lasts 10 to 20 unpluggings. Comes in a 14-gram jar (with applicator) that treats 1000+ connectors. 30-day money back.

I'd say the $20,000 interconnects mentioned in another thread are pretty ridiculous. They might be great cables (they better be), but $20,000...? I don't see how that could possibly be justified in any way. It's a pure case of greed - they know some people will pay that much, so they charge that much.
