TheEliteOne
Hey, I already asked this in the HT section, but Iv'e only gotton 2 responses. So I'll try my luck here. I want a Klipsch Speaker system that I would use to mainly listen to heavy metal. What would be the best system to do that including receiver? Also, what would be the best system for the cheapest price to do that? I don't wanna go over $2000. Howbout for under $1000 ???

mike stehr
These should do heavy metal. RF-7 will too, but they are more spendy. I didn't catch you wanted a reciever and speakers for a $1000 bucks.
TheEliteOne
It says they stopped making them in 2001. Where would I get them from and what receiver would I hook them up to?
TheEliteOne
$1000 buks a piece when they were still being made....that's outa my price-range. lol.
mike stehr
Scrounge Ebay for a reciever, that will save some cash. Buying speakers off Ebay can be a PITA, when it comes down to it. You asked what speakers would be good for thrash, I figure KLF-30 would be the one to do it. Any Klipsch speaker will play Metal, I guess...... Watch the local papers, you may find used Klipsch for a good price. Or maybe a hock shop, where you can haggle. I dunno...........
jt1stcav
I would assume a used pair of Chorus or Forte loudspeakers would do the trick. Also the new Synergy Series SF-3. And any decent Yamaha, harman/kardon, or Denon receiver with 100 watts per or less would also be perfect.
TheEliteOne
So the SF-3's would be good for metal? I just want a system for under $1000 that would sound good w/ heavy metal. $1500 MAX. $2000 ABSOLUTE max if it sounds supurb. For now. Dflip
A friend has a pair of Fortes that he uses for parties, rock, some metal and pumps out lots of volume. The good thing is that Klipsch speakers are very efficient, so 30W of tube power is enough, although you can go 50W if you want. The speakers will sound better with tubes, not as raw, but over time as you get older, you may also appreciate that they can play other forms of music. A pair of used ones will get you what you want, either speakers or an integrated amp. Ebay, Audiogon and there are other sites where you can pick up used equipment. A lot less money, but worth every cent, plus. My integrate amp, tuner and speakers were all owned by others previously.
Audio Flynn
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3074679910&category=3280 Denon integrated for $ 100-150 at the end of the auction perhaps. -KG-4 -Forte -KLF 20 -Industrial ported version of the Heresey Stay away from receivers with digital tuners. I think they sound distorted in most cases.
3dzapper
RF-3s or RB-7s about $700; Denon DRA-685 $350-400; RW-12 $500 + a Good Cd player $400. = $2k for a killer system! Rick
Audio Flynn
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3074350859&category=3280 20 year old Denon PMA 730 I am using right now since my tube amp is getting a check up. Was about a $ 450 unit 20 years ago as I recall. It sounds better if I leave it on all the time. It likes to warm up a bit. Phono section is only marginal. Not a firm low end at high SPL for my taste after being an audio enthusiast for 25 years. Shold be plenty for a college student. ========================= http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3075162009&category=3280 A litttle beefier denon =============== http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3074628285&category=50593 A Kenwood ============================== http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3075205193&category=14992 KLF-20 is a fine heavy metal speaker Good luck
J M O N
My first thought was also the KLF-30. Here is a pair, but I think it's a bit on the high side: http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cl.pl?spkrfull&1080085934
TheEliteOne
Yeah, the KLF-30's are a bit expensive. The KLF-20's look nice. Though, the auction ends in 15 hours....and I wasn't planning on getting this system untill around April (when my b-day money comes in ^^). Prob $1000 maybe a bit more. Can some1 please explain to me what half the things u said are...integrated phono tubes...intregated mono receiver?? I'm a noob at this. Also, would any of the Synergy series be good for metal? Thanks.
stream
I would go with RF-7's and a Cayin TA-30 tube amp. RF-7's can be had brand-new for $1500, or here's a used pair on ebay for $1000: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3074920017&category=14993 He claims they're in good condition, although you might want to contact him and get more pictures, etc. The TA-30 sells for about $600-$700, depending on what mods you want. And don't worry, this combination will absolutely scream at you if you're playing metal. -Jesse
TheEliteOne
Howbout the Synergy series? I need something $1000 or lower.
