Piranha
This part is kinda scary "LOOKS LIKE THE TWEETERS AND MIDRANGES HAVE BEEN REPLACED IN THE PAST". Maybe they were abused at some point???

hightone
The drivers look to have been replaced with alanco drivers k55v. They did not come this way in 91.
Piranha
Yup..and why were they replaced? Blown? Hmmmmm
hightone
mabey the owner prefered the k-55v
3dzapper
I changed out the K-53s in my Heresys to K55v's to match my Khorns, perhaps the previous owner did the same? Rick
Piranha
Hopefully that would be the explanation. At least they'd be more of a fit with my 76 LaScala's this way.
gullahisland
Piranha - Are you buying them? I'll extend this offer to any of you regular contributors in SoCal... I'll be traveling to Irvine on September 6th. If it would be helpful (logistically speaking) I could pick them up for you and deliver them to the Irvine area. All I'd ask is a small reimbursement for my gas from my house to Dutch Flat ($40?).
Deang
I know these speakers. The owner and myself had exhanged some email this week because he wanted to upgrade the crossovers. He recently bought these, and found both diaphragms shot -- which he replaced. After further inspection, he found 20 amp fuses in the crossover. Previous owner probably fried the K-55-Ms too, which might explain the K-55-Vs. He's selling because he prefers the sound of his Altec Valencias -- whatever in the hell those are. Audio Flynn
20 amp fuse in the crossover seems more than a little bit of a poor choice.

If he prefers them over the khorns there's either something wrong with the khorns or with the seller.
NOSValves
Probably the Seller LOL !!!
garymd
Actually, I know a few folks who really love the Valencias. The guy I sold my Santiagos to likes them much better then cornwalls. I have to admit, the altecs sounded great at very high volume but don't do much for me otherwise.

Deang
$2250 for a set of '91s with K-55-Vs and AK-3s is a hell of a deal actually. What would you consider a better pair -- mine?
