damonrpayne
Comes out tomorrow, anyone picking it up?
gcoker
I think I'll rent it first. Haven't even seen Pitch Back.
Cleve
From what I've read, there were significant scenes cut from "Riddick" If the director's cut restores those, then it's a must buy.
damonrpayne
Cleve, what have you heard was cut? Got a link?
m00n
Is this a series of movies? Which is the first one?
damonrpayne
Its sort of a series. The character of Riddick was introduced in "Pitch Black", which was a decent enough action movie with a neat premise. The story in Chronicles has little to do with it other than Riddick is in it. I'm most interested to see if Twhoy can convince someone to give him a budget to make another riddick movie since the story could go any number of different directions now. m00n
hmmm... interesting. I put Pitch Black in my netflix queue. I'll put Riddick in as well.
darkpark
it'd be nice for a movie to be made that took place before the movie "Pitch Black". In that movie he's a captured criminal being transported to a penal colony, but the ship crash lands on some planet and from there the movie starts. a movie explaining how Riddick was captured and why would be interesting. hell! if some producer were ambitious enough he could make a 3 hour long movie that takes place after the Chronicles, but speckled with backflashes explaining how Riddick was captured, how he obtained the night seeing ability and so forth. damonrpayne
Hey darkpark, I actually think there is an Anime Riddick story that explains his last escape from prison and all that. I'll see if I can find out what its called.
damonrpayne
Watched the Director's Cut last night, it does do a little bit better job of explaining the story. Worth the buy if you're a fan of the Riddick character.
gcoker
I thought it was awsome..have not seen Pitch Black but will now. I have not been a fan of Van Weesel but this is his best part.
dkp
I thought Pitch Black was a decent movie, although it moved slowly for the most part. I've heard Chronicles of Riddick is better than Pitch Black, but have yet to see it for myself.
synthfreek
That animated thing is called Dark Fury.
m00n
Ok... Just watched both Pitch Black and Chronicals of Riddick back to back... I really enjoyed them both. Outstanding sound track in Pitch Black. I am really confused about all of this. in chronicals, why is that main head bad guy so intimidated by Riddick, why does Riddick inherit the throne by killing the head bad guy? I really enjoyed them, but neither was very good at explaining things throught the movies. They will be put on my must buy list for sure. Good movies to watch with the fellahs. thebes
Thumbs down to Black but the Chronicals is great mostly for the special effects and wonderful sense of sci-fi art. The stroy is pretty ordinary, but I love the artwork.
damonrpayne
m00n: The main bad guy was intimidated because he was told by a prophet of some kind when he was young that someone of the Furion race would kill him. The necromonger culture is "You keep what you kill", se he essentially became the Lord Marshal by killing the lord marshall.
wheelman
I was thinking of buying this film. I just may I didn't really think Pitch Black was great, but it wasn't bad either. This Riddick looks like it would have great visuals in it. I think Vin does a good job in "A man apart". Yall seen that?
damonrpayne
I haven't seen "A man apart" but Vin Diesel is a bad ***. The visuals are what attracted me to Riddick as well.
m00n
What ticks me off is that Pitch Black has an outstanding DTS track, yet Riddick is only Dolby Digital... WTF Eh?

(I could be WAY off here, just something I've noticed on occassion.) David
