seti
it seems as though one has been bastardized : ( Look at all the Belle's in the last photo~! http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?spkrfull&1126890795
ben.
He makes Klipsch knockoffs, too. I can't imagine the Altec mid horn sounding too much like a Klipsch mid.
dragonfyr
I suspect the Altec mid could sound fine.
nicholtl
Ben, I just have to say the kid in your avatar is the cutest kid I've ever seen in my life.
Frzninvt
I believe Shinall used to work for Klipsch and he seems to do quality build work. His La Scala with the spacer and the Belle type grills looks really nice! The drivers he is using with those K5J horns look almost the same as the University models that they did come with. Its no K400, but sometimes you just have to make due. Hey, If anyone here buys these, I have a set of K400 that I am willing to swap straight across for the Altecs. I just got an amail today that my 511B's will be shipped tomorrow. My "guess" is that I won't miss the K400's too much. I am also going to have to "make due" with some JBL 2404's in place of the electrovoice Khorn tweeters. Life is a bunch of compromises. Chris BTW: I'm only joking here. Isn't the Altec mid and driver in the photo highly sought after as a replacement for the K400?

Chip off the old block, y'know... My point about the Altec mid was not an issue of quality. Most folks want their left and right speakers to match, though. playntheblues
I called Gary on these and he said he won't split them up. I mentioned that it might be difficult to sell a miss match pair and to take my number if you change your mind. LOL He very firmly said he won't change his mind Oh Well
ben.
Well, if they're in good shape and straight, the top section would be redoable without too much angst. Actually, it'd be pretty interesting to compare the two... Price isn't too too bad.
