Mark,

Dee offered to let me try out one of his "spare" TEACs a few weeks

back. It sounded so good with the BBX, I bought it from

him! Yes, much better sounding than with the Mac 1900 receiver

(which sounded pretty good, too, actually)! I'm considering some

form of EQ in there as an option (tape loop?) for less-than-ideal

recordings. We had friends ove last night (specifically to listen

to music..how fun!), and a few records and cds they brought could have

used some help. No clue what product might fit the bill. I

know a tube CD player (such as the Njoe Tjoeb) would help with the

CDs. Probably an upgraded cartridge would help in the LP

department as well, but I'm taking a break from fiddling with with the

turntable for a while. I got my Hakko soldering station in the

mail the other day, and the MK-IV parts from Shannon Parks are expected

soon. A Mouser order to go, and I should have all I need to

tackle the monoblocks!

Hey, glad to hear you're taming the Belles. Pretty content with Dean's Xovers?

I used a merlin with a teac and it rocked my socks off till they droped. It sounded pretty good for a $700 set-up, well at the time it was $700 now it would be $900 as the merlin has gone up in price.

wow.. merlin is $800 now.

too bad. i planned on buying one after the crossover upgrade. doesn't seem to be much of a bargain preamp anymore.

edit: funny how it now says *more* bang for the buck on the side of their website

CTP,

IMHO, Merlin would be a bargain @ 1K!

that's fine and dandy, but it's a bit disheartening when you see a product go up 33% in price. it's not exactly a budget preamp anymore.

Picky,

A decent used tube pre should work well with the NAD 2200. And a tube

pre would require almost zero upkeep, where you would have to keep an

eye on a tube power section. Sorta. I don't pay much attention to the

ST-70, but I do check it now and then.

Also, I think the HIIs listed around $1100 U.S.

Well guys, here's what was decided. I did speak to forum member Dylanl and he did have an excellent price on a really sweet Scott intergrated tube amp that Craig just rebuilt and all. I found it very hard to pass on, but then reality finally hit home. With things not being so great at the company I work at and all. And, with Christmas practically in our faces, we decided to hold off until late March and see how things are then. If the job is still going, I'll be looking for a tube amp or preamp then. And who knows? If that Scott is still around, maybe Dylanl will still consider the deal he offered me on it? If not, I hope he gets top price for it.

Thanks for all of your advice, guys. Take care!

-Glenn
