IndyKlipschFan
Ok, I admit it, in my youth... I thought they were ok.. not even sure if I had a lot of the Lp's? Certainly I must have had a few? This last summer I saw them live on the concert special and something just hit me how pure, how wonderful they were.. I was blown away at how good they sounded and how true some of the lyrics were even today. In the last 2 weeks I have fallen in love with them all over again..... I think I really appreciate them more.. So I bought: The Wall.. DVD and CD Dark Side Of The Moon DVD (The making of..) and CD Echoes.. CD Roger Wtares "The Wall" Live in Berlin.. (Have not seen this one yet..) Music is just awesome on La Scalas... Reminds me how good music was a long time ago. I hear in 2006 we will have a Dark Side Of The Moon in 5.1 too. Oh My!!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Your thoughts on music that inspires you or have re found years later that speaks to your soul? There is a lot of "us and them" in my head with the politics today... Wow cranked up on Klipsch La Scalas... the piano...B3 organ.. Sax... drums slowely leading us on.... intermixed guitar and bass lines.. The choir... sheer powerfulness of the piece.. back to softness too.... Add the Klipsch Amp and THX subs... Oh My... Almost makes me cry..... so wonderful!! (Ok showing my soft side here...) What are your thoughts of Pink Floyd? 3900th post and out!
Morton
...saw "Dark Side of the Moon" tour in 74'. It was the best sound system I had heard at a rock concert up to then. Certainly an amazing group. I got into them around the 'Umaguma' release time. "Obscured by Clouds" is one of my favorite albumns. Pink Floyd set a standard of how amazing Prog Rock could be without being pretentious. Maybe some wouldn't even call it Progressive rock but it is different......Though I like just about any progressive rock from that era. Moodies, ELP, Genesis, Yes etc. Even hard core rock purists couldn't deny the sound that Pink Floyd created. If you haven't heard them yet and want a new thrill......sort of Pink Floyd a little edgier, try Porcupine Tree's "In Absentia". Or their compilation "Stars Die" . You will not be sorry.Bob

TEXASRONANDTRISH
I'm with Bob,Ummagumma is awesome. I'm a fan of the early stuff. "Dark Side" got a little over-played for me. "Atom Heart Mother " is my fav. I'm not sure of the prog label, though they do fit the description. I like the title "space rock" best I guess, a sub catagory of prog[] "Piper at the Gates of Dawn" with Syd Barret (before Gavid Gilmore) is another fav. If you like Floyd I recommend the book, "Inside Out" by the drummer Nick Mason. Very good read, with lots of good pics. I have about 30 boots of Floyd, their early stuff was amazing. They would play a song for 40 minutes, just extended jamming. Gotta love the Floyd
MrMcGoo
DSOTM is already available on SACD in 5.1. It makes unique use of the surrounds. It is worth a listen. If I was at home, I would give details on the SACD. Bill

Mikekid
Still waiting for "Pulse" and "Delicate sound of thunder" to be released on DVD. Anyone have any idea when? I have been a Pink Floyd fan since I was a kid......(a long time ago)[:S]
SCOOTERDOG
Here you go! Pink Floyd's PULSEcoming on DVD...finally!Further to our recent news about the long-awaited, and much delayed, 2DVD release of Pink Floyd's PULSE, we've today received the US/Canadian release date. The release in that region on 6th December, sits between the UK (and certain European countries) release on 5th December, and the remaining regions release on 7th December (with the exception of Germany, which is on the 9th December). We know, from your emails, that many of you in North America have been waiting to hear when they might get their edition, so we are pleased to pass on this information. We also understand that a large marketing push will be launched to promote PULSE; it will be interesting to see what promo items are created (that will no doubt appear on eBay extremely quickly)! PULSE is a recording from the band's run of 14 shows at London's Earl's Court, the final full concerts performed (to date). A lot of work has been done to improve the sound and picture quality, and to source a selection of suitable extras. One of the common questions we've had is over the screen format. It is being presented in 4:3 format... attempts were made to create a good widescreen picture, but as it was originally shot in 4:3, this proved difficult. Decisions were then made to revert to 4:3 (standard television shape). Along with the DVD menus and screens, the DVD cover has been designed by Storm Thorgerson, and will be a variation on the "balls" picture used to promote the 2003 Interstellar exhibition in Paris. It is a suitably intriguing image, similar to that shown in Storm's book "Mind Over Matter" but with some important differences. Brain Damage had a sneak preview of the cover last December, and it is nicely designed, front and back. Pink Floyd's well-respected engineer James Guthrie has been the man looking after the surround sound mixes, and the new, Dolby Digital 5.1 remastered soundtrack reportedly sounds superb. We know that you'll want to know what's been included, so without further delay, here's the detail: DISC 1 Concert Part 1:Shine OnLearning To FlyHigh HopesTake It BackComing Back To LifeSorrowKeep TalkingAnother Brick In The Wall (part 2)One of These DaysScreen Films:Shine OnHigh HopesLearning to FlyBootlegging the Bootleggers:What Do You Want From MeOn The Turning WayPoles Apart MaroonedShorts:Time (Eames)Money (Alien)Speak To Me 1987Pulse TV AdvertVideos:Learning To FlyTake It BackDISC 2 Concert Part 2:Speak To MeBreatheOn The RunTimeThe Great Gig In The SkyMoneyUs And ThemBrain DamageEclipseWish You Were HereComfortably NumbRun Like HellScreen Films:Speak To Me (graphic)On The RunTime 1994The Great Gig in the Sky (wave)MoneyUs And Them 1987Brain DamageEclipseAlternate Screen Films:The Great Gig In The Sky (animation)Us And Them 1994Behind the Scenes Footage:Goodbye to Life As We Know ItPhoto GalleryIt's very interesting to see how all the screen films have been included on the DVDs. This is something that many fans have been keen to see. From our point of view, it's great to see that the Money alien film is included - few people seem to have heard of this hilarious alternate version, and this is their chance to see it. "Bootlegging The Bootleggers" seems to be a way at getting back at those who release unauthorised footage of the band in action - as we understand it, they have sourced audience-shot material of these tracks for inclusion. Ironically, Pulse is one of the biggest bootlegged titles on DVD, with loads appearing on eBay and other online sites each day. With behind the scenes footage, a photo gallery, and the band's performance at the US Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony back in 1996, this new release promises to be a very interesting collection of material. It is worth reiterating that any versions of Pulse currently being offered on DVD in various places worldwide, are all fakes. This includes copies that proport to be official limited edition pressings from a few years back. This new edition can be ordered, with a discount, through the following special links: Amazon US/International, Canada, UK/Europe, or Germany. Any item bought through these links at Amazon (not just Floyd items) helps with the running costs of the site, and we really appreciate it. Finally, we've had a load of questions about the DVD release of "Delicate Sound Of Thunder", getting emails about it every single week. The last we'd heard was that there are NO plans to release this on DVD, which is a pity as we know that there is plenty of demand out there. We presume though that PULSE is seen as superceding DSoT as a record of post-87 Floyd concerts... maybe one day they'll change their mind. If and when they do - we'll let you know! SCOOTERDOG
Some more news on PF PINK FLOYD - 2005 UK MUSIC HALL OF FAME - US TV BROADCAST! UK Music Hall Of Fame 2005Back on 8th September we were first to bring you the news that Pink Floyd are amongst the inductees to the 2005 UK Music Hall Of Fame. We have another update for you - with great news for our friends in America who will also be able to watch the complete induction ceremony, which happens on 16th November at London's Alexandra Palace. VH1 will broadcast the entire two-hour ceremony exclusively on VH1 as a "live" extravaganza on Saturday November 26th, at 9:00 PM ET. Then, VH1 Classic will air the entire, unexpurgated ceremony again, on Sunday, November 27 at 8:00 PM ET/5:00 PM PT and again at 11:00 PM ET/8:00 PM PT. Despite original expectations that the same line up of the band that appeared at London's Live 8 concert in July - David Gilmour, Roger Waters, Nick Mason, and Richard Wright - were due to appear at the event, it is now looking very unlikely that Roger will be able to make it. As regular Brain Damage readers know, Roger will be performing the premiere of his opera, Ca Ira, in Rome on the 17th November - the following night - so will be preoccupied with final arrangements for this show. It is also confirmed that the band will NOT be performing; simply appearing to accept their award. The 2005 UK Music Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be broadcast on the UK's Channel 4 TV channel, as a two-hour special on the 17th November, at (we understand) 9pm. However, the great news for Floyd fans across the world is that the BBC's Radio 2 will be broadcasting the whole event live, as it happens on the 16th, from around 10pm until midnight, GMT (although like any live event, it may overrun). For those who can't pick up the radio signal, www.BBC.co.uk stream all their programmes live via the internet, with every show available to listen to on demand for seven days following broadcast. More news and coverage of this event as we get it...

RickB
I was really looking forward to Pulse being released on DVD until I heard it was only going to be shown in 4:3. I will still pick it up, but I'm not as excited about it.
rockbobmel
I saw Floyd 3 times, but the best was in 1977 in Boston Garden. It was their "Animals" tour and I was in row 17 center. I was so blown away that I couldn't talk for 2 weeks!! It still ranks as "the BEST concert that I have ever been to".
