ranjith
I have only recently started listening to Dream Theatre, so far I own Train of Thought. It is a great freakin' album. I was wondering if any of you DT fans could name a few other of their good albums I should be aware of and also sort of compare the sound in those albums to Train of Thought. Thanks Ranjith
w2kj
I love "A Change of Seasons"; killer album.... ....if you like DT, check out "Liquid Tension". They use John Petrucci on guitar, and Mike Portnoy on drums. Quite progressive music. --w2kj
Foxman
I have only recently gotten into DT myslef, but do have a bit of a jump on you. I own Train of Thought, Awake, Live at Budakon, Scenes from a Memory and Octavarium. Of those 5 I think my favorite is Train of Thought followed very closely by Scenes from a Memory. I havent purchased any Liquid Tension yet, but I hear they whip some tail also. If you like DT you might also like a disk from a super group called OSI, Portnoy plays drums on it as well as a couple disks for Neal Morris and his stuff is good. There is a lot of Prog Metal out there and a ton of it I have never listened too. Tool falls under that category as well as Queensrych FWIW (just to throw out a couple of names people might be more familier with).

nicholtl
I think Scenes From A Memory, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, and Octavarium (their latest) are some of their best works, that only happen to be their more recent releases. ranjith
Ah! Knew you guys would be great help, I'll get right on to getting those suggested DT albums. I've heard Six Degreed of Inner Turbulence at a friend's place and it sure is a good one. Am bidding on Live at Budokan as we speak, hopefully i'll snipe it. Suggestions for other new prog bands that aren't very mainstream?
gibby214
Is Live at Budackon only a DVD. I seen it at Sam Goody today. I ended up getting Godsmack "changes" dvd. How does DT's live dvd sound compare to their studio recorded cd's?
DrWho
I hated the Live at Budokan DVD....like it was a chore to sit through and watch the whole thing, not to menion hard on the ears. That said, all the other DT I've heard I've liked so perhaps their live sound just isn't my cup of tea (came across as way too technical oriented, like to the point they forgot about the music). So I'm not sure what I'd recommend as I don't know the names of the songs, but I would recognize them if I heard them. I do know Octavarium is on my list to purchase. Seadog
I really like the DT Live at Budokan DVD. I was not particularly a fan of DT, but I bought it based on a stong recommendation from several on this forum about a year ago. Add me to the thumbs up list. DrWho
Oh btw, colter has a copy of live at budokan for sale....I forget what he's asking for it though. It was played once for like 2 minutes at his place and then one time through at my place. It's been in the box ever since.

ranjith
Are there other DT live DVDs apart from live at budokan that are good?

Aggie Klipsch
They have a DVD which includes the Images and Words tour along with 5 years in a Livetime. Two concerts on one disc which is pretty good. Can't wait to see them this year. Seen em 5 times and they keep getting better every year. Do yourself a favor and catch them live. The dvd's are great but nothing like seeing them live. By the way there is a clip from the Images and Words disc where they show the audience in Houston. I am somewhere in the middle of it. Cheers.
