UFObuster
Not an SACD but an interesting find in Jazz: Santana & Shorter (Carlos and Wayne) Live at the Montreaux Jazz Festival (1988). You don't see this on their discographies because this "band" was not "official" which included the likes of Chester Thompson, Alphonso Johnson, Patrice Rushen playing a jazz fusion typical of those musicians at that time. Video is OK (not wide-screen but filmed well); but the audio is excellent. I mention it here because it has your choice of 2 channel or 5 channel DTS, both in 96/24. It sounds great on my system....better than some of my SACDs.
LarryC
Search on "classical" in 2-channel.
garymd
Some great jazz SACDs: Thelonious Monk, Straight, No Chaser - Amazing! Not a hybrid though. Only plays on SACD players Mingus. Ah Um - Same as above. Gene Harris - Listen Here - with Ray Brown on bass Dave Brubeck - Time Out - Enough said. Dave Brubeck - Concord On A Summer Night - Nice live performance. Art Pepper - So In Love - Analogue Productions, just amazing! Bill Evans - A Waltz For Debby - Nice if you like Evan's piano trio Sonny Clark Trio - A classic and sounds fantastic. I'll let you know when I think of more. That's just off the top of my head. As far as classical, you can't go wrong with the RCA Living Stereo releases. My favorite is Rimsky-Korsakov's, Sheherazade - Fritz Reiner & The Chicago Symphony Orchestra. You can get them for $12 or less and all are great. Also, try to find the Naxos SACD of Holst, The Planets. There's only one and it's a great recording and performance.
zuzu
Thanks Gary. I have Thelonius Monk Straight No Chaser from Columbia. It plays on my regular CD player and the CD does not say anywhere I can see that it's super audio SACD. Do I have a different version than you? The SACD is amazing though and well worth the price if you like the CD. It's one of the best sounding jazz SACDs I've ever heard.

garymd
Unfortunately, not all of those are available on SACD. Blue Train, Kind Of Blue and A Love Supreme are the only ones I own on SACD from that list that I didn't already mention. I'm not sure if any of the others are available on SACD. DrPyro
Classical SACDs (I'm a symphony nut...) Beethoven: Symphonies no 5 & 7 / Kleiber Beethoven: The Symphonies / Karajan I also like Dvorak & Tchaikovsky symphonies, but never really a fan of Mozart. -Dave

I've heard good things about the Channel Classics releases. The three I have sound great. If the link works. http://store.acousticsounds.com/search_results.cfm?start=21&SearchText=Channel%20Classics&field=Label&Category=all_4 I listened to this Living Stereo release again last night and it's a good release if you are into the organ bass pedels. I don't know if I'm all that into the music yet but if you are into bass, subwoofers can be a plus with this one. Saint Saens: Symphony No.3 "Organ"/Debussy: La Mer Charles Munch CRCA 61387 SA

I don't know if I'm all that into the music yet but if you are into bass, subwoofers can be a plus with this one. Saint Saens: Symphony No.3 "Organ"/Debussy: La Mer Charles Munch CRCA 61387 SA That is a GREAT recording! Recorded in the late '50s or early '60s, it lacks a little "air", but the pedal bass is a real test. The slow movement has (16-foot) 34-Hz D-flats (the liner notes are wrong in saying 36 Hz), and the last movement climaxes on a 32.7 Hz low C (the lowest pitch in 16-foot ranks). There is one place in the slow movement where an extremely low organ tone enters, where the score says "32 pieds" (i.e., 32-ft pipe). That would mean 34/2 = 17 Hz! I can't be sure because I don't have a sub -- see what you think if you get the CD. The interpretation is vigorous, fabulous IMO. To me it's THE work for organ and symphony orchestra. zuzu
This Saint Saens Symphony 3 looks like one to get to also hear my sub. Does the multi channel aspect trump it out. I think the Sony s 9000es is 2 channel? PS I don't have the Sony yet.
Strabo
I couldn't tell you without looking. I listen in stereo only too, no sub either. [8-|] In case you didn't know, all SACD's have a dedicated two channel mix.
