The subject pretty much says it all.Since you can get some of the very expensive older speakers for reasomable prices now.The build quality blows away what is available for the same price ,and quality.I am using a pair of restored JBL L150a's for my front channels, they were $1500 a pair back in 79-80.I know they dont match the ret of my speakers, but they are in mint condition and really rock!I am powering them with a Rotel 130 w amp offf a Rotel 1055 reciever.

I traded a set of speakers I had about $600 in.The speakers are darn near perfect, all the drivers were rebuilt recently,My friend got then from a small used epeaker/old stereo stuff store, its a really cool place,He gave $750 for them,The bottom 12 in driver is a passive radiattor.Yeah, these old JBL's rock!

This isn't a knock against classic JBL's, but I don't subscribe to the logic that because something was expensive 30 years ago, that it equates to quality by todays standards. Afterall...... in the 1970's.............. a VCR cost $1,500!

'Rocking out' in 2 channel mode is the primary purpose those speakers are best suited, and yes.... I've heard good things about those old JBL's!!

On the other hand, you'd be much better off with a matched set of speakers for multi-channel theater surround. A mismatched Frankenstein setup used for HT-surround will perform poorly..........regardless of the quality of the individual mismatched pieces thrown together.

very true a timbre matched 5 channel will sound more uniform.Even mismatched I enjoy the set up as it is now,I have beeen thinking of getting 4 of the Parts Express MTM speaker kits and retire the JBL's.I have heard good stuff about the Parts Express kits, they use very good drivers and are well designed

LaScala mains, KG4 center (keeping eyes open for a set of Heresies for front and rear centers) and still up in the air as to rears and sides.

I'm thinking about replacing the LaScalas with Cornwalls, tho, and selling the LSs.
