Groomlakearea51
OT: Our youth development program made the "TV" news in Orlando. http://www.cfnews13.com/MediaPlayer2/MediaPlayer.htm?video=00UQXUxTankfulSeals_102520081203&cat=Travel&title=Honoring%20The%20SEALs Our agency sponsors a Naval cadet unit (JROTC type organization). We have a collaborative partnership for the unit with the UDT-SEAL Association, Naval Special Warfare Foundation, and the National Navy SEAL Museum in Fort Pierce. The TV folks did a feature story on the Museum and our kids demonstrated Zodiacs for the film crew. They did a great job and were well featured in the video. I appear only briefly as the crazy guy with the whistle.... Here's a brief description of what we sponsor: The "USNSCC" has the same requirements and benefits as NJROTC, and was established by an act of Congress on request by the Secretary of the Navy in 1957. The national program is organized and supervised according to the military requirements established by the United States Navy. The cadet unit located in Okeechobee, Florida, is the NSW-Trident Team, and is the only Naval Special Warfare cadet unit in the nation. Based upon the direct sponsorship by the UDT-SEAL Museum Association, UDT-SEAL Association, and Naval Special Warfare Foundation, the NSW-Trident is specifically oriented towards Naval Special Warfare - the SEAL's; and draws it's name from Naval Special Warfare symbol. The NSW-Trident is sponsored locally by the Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office. The unit is administered by the Sheriff's Marine Unit, and is the Sheriff's official pro-active youth development activity, and is considered one of the most rigorous and challenging programs for sea cadets in the nation. The Trident one of the top ranked cadet units in the nation from over 300 units. In addition, the NSW-Trident has been recognized by the Governor of Florida and the Cabinet by an official resolution which cites the unit as a world class youth development program. The NSW-Trident is performance based and specifically emphasizes "real world" practical skills and "hands-on-training". The NSW-Trident program provides a real world environment for the cadets in which to experience the skills, training and other benefits associated with Naval Special Warfare. The program operates in a structured, military environment, and provides important benefits to the cadets such as discipline, responsibility, and an understanding of the nature of civic responsibility. Okeechobee District School students enrolled in the Trident receive high school elective credit in Naval Science for each year they complete with the program. During the school year cadets assigned to the NSW-Trident attend monthly drills and undergo a very rigorous and challenging local training program similar in nature to "BUD/S". Carrying on the tradition of the original Underwater Demolition Teams, many of the NSW-Trident's training evolutions are conducted at the original "UDT" training areas at the UDT-SEAL Museum in Fort Pierce. Successful completion of the program and graduation from high school provides enhanced employment and educational opportunities for the cadets, and qualifies cadets to enter the Armed Forces at advanced pay grade levels.
