bliss53
Just wanted to share an experience. I had a chance to hear some khorns driven by a n.e.w. tube preamp and a n.e.w. batttery powered amp this past weekend. I had never heard of this line. I am told they are not made anymore. The amp uses lead acid motorcycle batteries that run for about 8 hours on a charge. Sounded great. Really low noise floor. The clarity was really impressive. consistent
Hi yes they are great amps and pres I had a couple over the years but they went bust and disappeared. Have a look at http://www.mother-of-tone.com/byob.htm. I have the BYOB amp and this thing is a solid performer with Khorns. Cheers
KauaiBass
I'm wanting to create a nice "portable" (cough) LSI system and have just bought a small 20W 12V powered amp off of eBay. This way I can host a small beach party just using the 12V from my truck or an aux battery. I'll let you know how it goes/sounds.
Moderators dtel Posted January 26, 2010 Moderators Share Posted January 26, 2010 I can tell you it will sound good, I used this little t-amp and a portable CD AM/Fm player to run this, which is just a copy of a top from a LSI but with a big butt bottom, even the same AA crossovers. I ran it off a old car battery battery and it will play for at least 24 hours before needing a charging. Also VERY surprising the volume from that T-amp just be careful to not crank it into distortion, which is loud.
aj01
Any recommendations on amps to be run off of batteries (that are in current production)? We'll be running a pair of kp-250s, possibly kp-115's also.
Moderators dtel Posted January 26, 2010 Moderators Share Posted January 26, 2010 I only tried the cheapest out there, there are different ones out there now but I have not tried them ? I used the model that was before this one, it was just flat looking but I think it was the same. I just cut the end off the wire and made it a little longer and added alligator clips to connect to the battery. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-
edwinr
The BYOB amplifiers have had some good press. I would love to hear one of these driving some Klipschorns.
aj01
Did I read that right, 950 EUR? That's $1136 if I google the exchange rate.
consistent
Hi, I have the BYOB and did some mods to better mesh with my KHORNS and it is magic! The amp provides 'punch' like no other I have heard with the KHORNS and I have a few! The only trouble is this amp is bloody expensive! Moderators dtel Posted February 19, 2010 Moderators Share Posted February 19, 2010 That's rather tempting for 40 bucks........... Really is for that price, much more power than the little T-amp I was talking about and still cheap. [Y]
