  1. Yes so, all the superlatives that read as positives, I will not bother you with. My serious listening impressions from listening to just 4 reference material cd's via my Sony MegaStorage 300CD player has convinced me that while many similarities exist, this is a different animal indeed. Another thing is the bass. While the footprint or stage seems more focused. the bass is sufficient for my needs so far. Configured as an apex at my corner computer station/desk, I am near-field of course while at the computer. In this position the Tractrix sounds much alive and crystal clear. When critical listening after towing one speaker outward a few inches in order to listen 15 foot way at a comfortable chair, I was much impressed wthe center balance of all of the speakers. I will no longer worry about not having enough bass with the reference line of speakers. Looking forward now to the RF-5, RF-7 and not necessarily in that order. Very pleased with these speakers powered by the Carver A500X. So pleased in fact that CD's that I have heard previously, are now listened to with relish, like a new life has been breathed into them. All for now and thanks. RF-3's can rock, etc...

  4. Last pics, it was still difficult to choose from about the hundred pics made during the build. I integrated the CT125 tweeters [Crites] into the Cobreflex midhorns by removing some material from the middle; they fitted right in after that, I removed the flanges. Well....then after constructing a pivot for the mid-high section and bolting everything together it was time to drag them into place and hook them up to the Decware Zen tube amps. Right from the start these speakers fill the room with authority, can't find a better description. We were used to the balanced sound of the heavilly modded La Scala's but were immediately struck by the richness of the Universals. Let me say that my wife is VERY happy with the endresult, it made her forget all the mess we had in our livingroom during sanding, coating and working on them. Hope you enjoy looking at this thread, I learned a lot from looking at all the threads you guys posted! Thanks, Nico

  8. Cause Amy won't let him add anything else to his signature. Isn't the A250 pretty similar in design as the A200? If so, this is a sweet buy for someone. I love how the A200 sounds with my RF-7ii's. With 250 watts / ch of raw power with a lot of punch in the bass region, great separation and a really wide sound stage, the A250 will be a big improvement, especially for someone that is using just their receiver to power their speakers. I know the A200 sounds MUCH better, especially at high volume than my HK 3490 does by itself (and it's 125 x 2). Best wishes with your sale Bill.

  9. Everyone likes the 511. They they sell them and buy things hoping they sound like the 511.

  10. I used to fool around with an Altec A7-500 cabinet (one of the Voice of the Theater systems). There was something satsfying about the Altec 511 horn that I liked.

  11. As Budman stated, this is not cane. It is a fabric. Wendell Fabrics is a company many here use for replacement fabrics. At this stage, if the look you have is not desired, there are numerous articles probably on the Modifications section (as well as some very helpful Forum members) who could assist you in building new grills, replacing the fabric. The Khorns would be the biggest challenge as the manner in which the fabric is attached is a bagillion staples (might be on your other speakers too, if the grills don't easily remove via velcro, they may be the older wrapped style, where the fabric goes around the motor board, not a separate grille board). Great find on that set of speakers. Appears someone was way ahead of the game with a 5 channel setup, or had a stereo +center and a separate 2 channel setup somewhere. Wow!

  12. Bump for a good guy. Talked with Ben about his K-horns but timing not good for me. Heck of a good deal for someone.
