    DOOM lll

I've just opened Best Buy's add this morning and they are preordering doom 3 for $9.99
  2. First: I own Pioneer 708S. It is a high-current amp (and quite heavy too). Anyway, im using it with Onkyo HT speakers, and it provides lots of power. It is very reliable, GREAT remote.. one of the best i've used. Now the bad side of the Pioneer - while its a great overall machine, powerful and stuff - channel separation does not sound very good to me. Sometimes it seems muddy (specially at low volumes). But otherwise its great. Now if i was buying a receiver today in your price range - i would either get Yamaha or Onkyo. BUT since recently, HDTV compatibilty became an issue, as all the broadcasting companies have to convert to this standard in a next couple of years, so - whatever you get - make SURE that its supports HDTV. I believe many Onkyo models have it, while only higher end Yamaha's do. So, even though i really like Yamaha, i would probably get Onkyo. Also, someone recomended Onkyo 500 - DO NOT BUY IT. Sorry whoever posted about it being a good model, BUT - there is a known problem with LFE channel. Many Onkyo 500 had no LFE output in DD, and there was a huge scandle about this, after which onkyo released a tech note to all of its repair centers with insutrctions on how to fix it. They WILL swap the whole main board in the receiver and that will take a while since they have to get it from Onkyo first.

    Cheat codes ?

I used them when i was about 14. The only problem with that is - once you use a cheatcode - games stops being fun. I played doom for long time, but when i used cheats to get ulimited ammo and godmode - that was it. Another week and the game was borring... i could do everything and no warry about anything. cheat codes suck...
  4. If you are talking about a somewhat funny song with quite funky music - Liza Minnelli. here is a part of that song http://www.merlin.com.pl/MP3/56/43/74321974382-U13.mp3 Abba has "money" song too, but i dont think you were talking about it.
  5. i've put in a DVD player... in 15 minuts i've turned it off. If you ask me - its one of the worst movies every made.
  6. Agree with the poster above - ALways have the right gear. I ride too, and i've seen some bad stuff. Assume that people in cars, trucks..DONT SEE YOU and act acordingly. Keep your distance, ride within abilities, and don't push it too hard... yea, another thing - dont race on the streets. Take it to the track. Living in California - we have bike accidents every day, just because someone thought they are invincible. Take the MSF ( motorcycle safety course) if you can. They will show you a good deal of usefull stuff AND your insurance most likely will be lower. If you are young, have a good bike and didnt take the course - it maybe SO expensive that you wouldnt want a bike anymore. They wanted me to pay 6K a year in full coverage( and i was riding for 2 years at that point and bike wasnt new, had no tickets...etc) And yes, dont get a fast new bike right away. Get something cheap so you wont care much if it gets scratched. I would vote for sv650 too - its a great machine. Take it slow, and dont risk it when you dont have to.

    RW8 vs 3xSWS

Thanks, thats what i wanted to hear...

    RW8 vs 3xSWS

I did mean SWS not SVS. Money is an issue here. $350 (that was paid for RW8 is pretty much the most he can afford). SO i was wondering if SWSx3 would be better for same amount.
  9. Is it worth taking putting three SWS instead of 1 RW8 from reference series?

    RW8 vs 3xSWS

My friend got Cinema8 system by klipsch, and it comes with RW8. In his place ( its not big, but got tall celings) you can barely hear this sub when its turned up all the way. Would it make sense to return it and get 3 SWS instead?

    Room Acoustics

    For subs - i would go with SVS ( http://www.svsubwoofers.com/ ), Sunfire ( http://www.sunfire.com/ ) or Velodyne ( http://www.velodyne.com/). Probably in that order too...
  12. well, OK.. in that case we will hook it up and see how it goes. By the way, does anyone know a good place to buy Cinema 8/10 or RSX and RCX speakers? ( good - means low priced )
  13. Tivoli radio's are great! They have awesome sound for a small desk radio. Same goes for Boston acoustics and Grundig. I know that some of those radios can have a second speaker attached as well as their own stylish mini subwoofer...
  14. OMG - we are getting ripped of here in San Diego, CA ! Cinema 8 is priced at $1200 here... WTF?
  15. Hey guys... My friend just got an Onkyo 801 receiver which is rated at 100w per channel ( and as some know, onkyo's ratings may be somewhat conservative, sompared to Sony and some others), and he just got a set of RSX-4's . He is putting all this in his small condo, so big speakers are not really an option ( he doesnt have the space, plus he cant play them TOO loud. Anyway, i was wondering if thats ok that receiver can push 100w while speakers are rated at 50 ? I've heard people say that as long as they dont sound distorted, and don't seem to be trying to hard to replicate whats being pushed into them - then its OK... What can you tell me? He was looking at some polk (6700) but those are rated same as Klipsh, yet, dont sound nearly as good. So is it OK?
  16. Thats my first name ... ( its Russian/Ukrainian)
  17. One more thing - My older ipod has a steel back/sides plate. Which is great for protecting it, but can get ugly after couple of years of use. Zen has a full ALUMINUM body - which stands up very ncie to every day use. I would rate Zen from creative and iPOD from apples as 2 VERY BEST HD based MP3 Players on the market right now. Dont forget about formats - Apple can play MP3 and AAC ( apples format for protected music) and creative uses MP3 and WMA ( microsofts protected format). Zens have ~14 hours of play time, and iPODs ~8 hours ( from specs of each). for $399 you can get a 60Gb (!!!) player that will last 14 hours of play time on a single charge... dont think apple can beat that right now ( im an ipod and apple power book owner myself, so dont think im huge creative guy) or for $299 you can get 30 gig with 14 hours. PLUS - Creative's Zen players have REMOVABLE battery. ( i dont know whats going to happen to my iPOD when battery cant hold the charge any longer.. ) AND right now you get a free noise canceling headhpones with purchase of creative Zen player... ------ and im gonna stick with my 5 gig original iPOD
  18. I've got a 5 gig ipod 1 year ago. And i've got a Creative Zen FW player for my sister. So i can compare both... Well iPOD is a very nice device ( specially the new one). One thing that i've noticed is that battery life DOES decrease noticable after a year of use. What i like about it - battery life, quality of reproduction, look and style. What i dont like - remote ( its in-line with earphones, which makes the cable WAY too long). It cant power decent headhpones ( like senheisers)... well,it can, but not very loud. itunes which is used to manage music is fairly easy to use. Its a great device, specially considering how many attachments you can use with it ( some are somewhat expensive). Controlls on iPOD are excelent - easy to use and convinient. Now, Creative Zens are also VERY nice devices ( my sister got 10 gig one) and are generally cheaper than iPODs. They have better battery life too. Controls are not as good as on iPOD but Zens are feature RICH. they got lots of cool features. Software that comes with it is not as good as itunes - too messy, flashy and clutered. We took both these mp3 players on a trip to Tahoe ( from san diego). It was about 10.5 hour drive from point to point and both players lastet one way easily ( played them through cassette adapter in a car stereo). I gotta tell you, that even my 5 gig ipod is a LOT OF SPACE. I have about 10 gig of music total, but i really listen to only about 3gigs. Rest gets used very rear. So i personally would not want to go for extra 10 or 20 gig if thats going to cost 200-300 bucks. With creative you get more HD space for same money, and more features, but with iPOD you get better controls and more gadgets that can be used with it ( like wireless remote, flash card reader, fm radio, recorder...etc.
  19. I dont remember the location of the folder exectly, but you need to backup folder called favorits. It will probably be somewhere in Windows directory. Enable "view hiden and system files" and then make a search for it. You will also need to backup cookies folder to get your passwords and stuff.
  20. Was at best buy yesterday and they had new logitech speakers (still in a box) that i have never seen before. So i started looking on the web and it looks like Logitech's australian department has a whole new line of speakers ( which are also sold in Europe). So far i've only seen one set ( the 5.1 one) here in US store. 6.1 ( dont think its any good compared to even other logitechs, and cant even compare with Klipsch). Same design for sats as on 640 ( on a front center channel), but with less controls. X-620 70Watt RMS ( some playes on the web preorder these for about $99 z5300 THX 280W - Looks like redesigned and simplified Z680. They seem to lack tweeters though.. One interesting feature its supposed to have is stereo->4 and 5.1 channel upmix ( or , rather, splitting) - so stereo signal can be played through all speakers. price in us ~$145-200 Now, im going back to unpacking my ULTRA 5.1 !!!
  21. Since they got the source code - that means that it WILL be very easy for them to create all kinds of hacks and mess up the game for the rest of players. I would rather wait for it than have some kids run hacks on every server out there...
  22. thanks for the tip about SONY MDR - but i decided i don't need anything above $100 as these cans will mostly be used for MP3 on PC, games, and listening to MP3 on iPOD. Justin- where? Wonder if they are still sold for same price at same place you bought them...
  23. Justin- when you say close or open you mean ? As i understand closed design is one that tries to block all the external sounds and stop heaphones from leaking sound to the outside; while the open ones don't prevent air/sound waves from traveling. I do like the closed heaphones idea more ( so i can crank them up late at night without people in the next room waking up), but i did really like the sounds of open design of Sen 590. Plus that should let the ears get more fresh air. Right now im thinking about 1) Grado SR60 ~$60 2) Koss PortaPro $33 ( Amazon.com) Its amazing that PortaPro were desined in 1980's and are still the best cans in the price range...This is just unbelivable. Same goes to Grado's - designed quite a while ago they seem to be some of the most liked cans ( and not only in their price range too).
  24. Colin- I can't use earbuds. I get headacke from them ( even though i got some really nice sounding ones with my iPO). I would like to get the big ones that go all the way around the ear. Now about the brand - the only 2 decent brands i could find at local sound shop were Sen. and Philips ( HP910). I would love to try out and compare Grado and AKG to those, but i just cant find any here...I will try to look for the KOSS you mentioned too. Keep em coming....i like to do my research and then get best for the money.
