  1. I have not had the pleasure of hearing the 63's/83's so I can only go by what I have read. I believe the 63's/83's are a bit tamer, kind of like the RF-7 after Dean G's x-over mod. I don't know why the 83's didn't sell like the RF-7's, I have no doubt they sound as good or better. Maybe Klipsch fans just aren't ready for smaller woofers. I don't think you can go wrong either way, buy whatever you find the best deal on IMO.
  2. Black Hawk Down Braveheart Wonderland Saving Private Ryan Apocalypto Open Range Tombstone Avatar The Chronicles of Riddick No Country for Old Men Heat Inglourious Basterds The Fifth Element I could probably put together a really long list, of course every theater room needs the collections of Batman, Lord of the Rings, The Matrix, The Godfather, Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Band of Brothers, The Pacific and Alien.
  3. I liked this one too, just watched it the other night. I thought the dad was involved, fooled me.We liked it, it had a few cheesy lines and the chemistry between Reacher and the lawyer were a bit odd at times but over all I thought it was good.
  4. Watched that last night. It was ok, something about it I just didn't like but it's worth a watch. We're watching this tonight, I'll let you know what we think!
  5. I don't know anything about the Alto amp. How much is it? If it were me I would go for the XPA-2 over this. The XPA-2 puts out 300+ watts a channel and has been used by enough people to know that it's a solid performer. I know the XPA-2 is rated as the same 32db gain as the XPA-5 but for some reason it does not produce as much hiss as the XPA-5. I can also vouch for the Acurus. I heard one matched to RF-7's. I know pro amps can sound good, my QSC sounds great - I just have never heard of the Alto. It may be a wonderful amp and if you've heard it then great. If you're going out on a limb, I would go with one of the other recommendations.
  6. I have no idea, that's weird. The latest which is gen 3 is only $99 and it's the only one that is 1080p. The gen 2 was 720p.Edit: After doing a Google search, I found this: "Some people like the older ones also because they can be hacked and used as linux computers (link) with actual storage and since they can also store things on them, you can take it with you and have videos/music on it and not require internet for streaming your content. Though the biggest reason is most likely the hack-ability of them, they are tiny computers with a decent amount of power. And since they aren't sold any more and are still sought after, that would explain their above average price."

    HK 3700

Yeah I can see that, I never ran 7.1 with mine. I do know that HK under rates their watts though. My 50 watt per channel HK was way more powerful than my 80 watt per channel Denon.

    HK 3700

Congrats and I am looking forward to your review as well. I wouldn't worry about Harman Kardon when it comes to power. My first HK was an AVR-325 and that thing was only rated at 50 watts a channel but it sure sounded like a lot more.
  9. You have some serious carpentry skills! I am pretty blown away by what you have done in that theater room. Awesome job.
  10. You need to send the Oppo back for a replacement asap. You have a defective unit from what it sounds like.
  11. Congrats on another RSW-15! Two is always better than one! []
  12. The problem is the price point Klipsch has them set at. For one sub and the amp it's around $3000. At that price point there is some serious competition in the sub market. Klipsch did the same thing with the RSW-15 back in the day, it was priced a little high at the time. It's a great buy today on the used market but ten years ago you could have the best SVS or whatever was around that would simply out perform it at the price point. In today's market with all of the amazing I.D. subs, Klipsch still needs to make some adjustments in their sub department IMO. They have gotten better but the KW-120 is still way out there IMO. Take your quad KW-120's for instance, have you looked around at the options you had available at that price point? You dropped some serious coin on those four babies. You could of had four Seaton Submersives, stacks of JTR's, pretty much anything you can find from the top dogs in the sub world and they would have all out performed the KW-120 by quite a large margin and it would have saved you money. Of course the flip side is, you can hit reference level easily as it is already so more is not needed but you see my point. When people are looking for bang for the buck, Klipsch subs aren't on the same level as their loud speakers.
  13. I have 3 Emotiva XPA amps, several tube amps and several AVRs. In my two channel setup with Chorus II's I am using a QSC PLX 2402 and it sounds every bit as good as my other amps. The only negatives that I had were the fan noise which I replaced for less than $15 and is now dead silent and the fact that it does not fit in my nice audio rack because of the ears. Sound wise it is top notch and very affordable - 425 watts a channel for $450 used. Nothing about the "first watt" with the QSC is any different than anything Emotiva makes. Pro amps are used in high dollar pro systems all over the country. They just aren't as "pretty" as home amps. So to the OP - yes I run a QSC PLX and it is a great amp. Very smooth with all the mojo anyone could ever want or need. I have not hooked it up to my RF-7's but I know it would sound great if I did.
  14. Awesome, nothing like jumping right in and going all out with new gear! Those windows are huge, they make the RF-7II's look small! Congrats on a heck of a setup!
  15. A little off topic but how do the RF-63's compare to the Quartets?
  16. I'm looking forward to the 4k sets, I am one of those guys that will wait though for them to come down to reality though before buying. Like all technology, they will drop in price fast.
  17. Congrats! SVS is no joke, amazing subs!
  18. I run a QSC PLX2402 with my Chorus II's and love it. Nothing like having 425 watts a channel available to make those 15's thump.
  19. You may want to check your sub configuration, Looper was insane at our house, more bass than we could handle almost at some points. This movie is way up there in the bass department. Wasn't talking about just the bass.I see, I just thought maybe your sub was missing the action or something. The Looper soundtrack and special effects stands out more than most of the movies I've seen in the last few months, I thought it had awesome LFE and surround sound material. It's on my demo list for sure.

  21. There is a difference between DTS-HD and DTS-HD MA, the DTS-HD is lossy. The DTS-HD MA is what you want which is lossless and should sound like the studio master and be comparable to the Dolby True HD.
  22. I thought the UPA series was the quieter of the Emotiva amps since it has a gain of 29db while the XPA has a 32db gain. Maybe I'm mistaken but I thought the gain is what makes an amp project that "white noise".
  23. That's not what he said: Thank you for your email. Klipsch speakers are hyper efficient and do not require massive amounts of power to drive them to their fullest potential. The UPA-500 was designed with speakers such as Klipsch in mind.
  24. I thought the whole point of the new Blu-ray codecs was lossless audio. You shouldn't be hearing anything being compressed unless you're not selecting the DolbyHD, DTS-HD MA or PCM track before the movie starts. These codecs should sound just like the studio master.
  25. If I was dead set on buying an AVR right now, it would have to be the Harman Kardon 3700.
